Datong Fahua Temple | The quiet beauty of a thousand-year-old ancient temple.
| The quiet beauty of a thousand-year-old temple.
Darlings 👫, today I must share with you the Fahua Temple in Datong, Shanxi.
This ancient temple has a long history and carries the traces of time😌. Stepping into the temple is like walking into an ancient painting. The glazed archway is colorful and beautiful, and the exquisite cloud and dragon patterns show nobility. Walking along the central axis, you will see the Sanshi Hall and the Main Hall, which are solemn and solemn.
And the Fahua Pagoda is even more unique! It is the only existing bowl-covered glazed Lama Pagoda in Datong. It is built on a high hexagonal platform and has a very impressive double-layered octagonal Xumizuo. The body of the tower is like the waist of a bottle, the temple is like the neck of a bottle, and the phase wheel and flower cover made of colored glass are extremely gorgeous. Here, time slows down and you can feel the strong religious atmosphere and historical heritage. 💕

Datong Fahua Temple
Fahua Temple was built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, but the historical Fahua Temple no longer exists. Apart from the White Pagoda in the temple, all other buildings are newly built in recent years. The only surviving White Pagoda in the temple is the only inverted bowl-shaped glazed lama pagoda in Datong City, named after a copy of the Lotus Sutra stored in the pagoda. The entire temple building is high and low, and there are four entrances in total.
Different from other Fahua Temples, there is a white pagoda in Datong's Fahua Temple.
The White Pagoda is a brick and stone structure, about 12 meters high. It is divided into three parts: the pagoda base, the pagoda body, and the pagoda stupa. The pagoda base is on a square platform built of 2-meter-high steles. There are brick walls, corridors, and corner columns around the platform. There are stone-carved orbs on the corner columns. There are brick arch kiln holes on both sides of the platform. There are stone steps to climb the platform, and there are three large stone-carved characters "Xiaodongtian" above the cave door.

Datong Fahua Temple|A classic passed down through the ages.
|A classic passed down through the ages. Fahua Temple is located on the north side of Heyang Street in Datong City. It is a Lama temple facing south. The architectural style of the entire temple is unique, combining Buddhist culture and Shanxi local characteristics. The architectural layout of the temple is rigorous, with high and low levels and left and right symmetry, reflecting the beauty of harmony in ancient architecture.
There are three special places in Fahua Temple. The first is that the temple uses a gorgeous glazed archway instead of the mountain gate of a general temple. The four-pillar and three-door archway stands there, and the red, yellow, and green glaze is dazzling in the sun. The second special place is the round bell and drum tower. It is said to be built in combination with the characteristics of the Mongolian bag. It looks like two pretty small pavilions from a distance. The Fahua Pagoda standing at the back of the temple is the third special place of the temple. It is the only existing bowl-shaped glazed Lama Pagoda in Datong City. Looking at the white tower standing under the blue sky, it seems to feel the floating clouds on the top of the tower, and the wind and clouds change.
There is also a classic handed down in the Fahua Pagoda in the temple-"Fahua Sutra". The treasure blue plaque with the three golden characters of Fahua Temple has faded, and the carved beams and painted buildings are also dusty. However, the classical architectural shape and gorgeous and harmonious colors still reveal the elegance and poetry of Oriental temperament.

Datong • Fahua Temple.
A peaceful sanctuary, a must-visit temple in Datong, located on the north side of the city and Yang Street, rebuilt in 2012, imitating the Ming Dynasty style, with a four-entry courtyard layout.
You need to have three or two hours or longer, and you might as well walk through every corner carefully. The treasures in the temple include the blood sutra that the abbot Wande Dharma Master closed for three years, which is extremely shocking and indescribable.
With a devout heart, come to Fahua Temple, if you can, come more.

Datong's free attraction 'Fahua Temple'
Although 'Fahua Temple' in Datong is a free attraction, you still need a reservation code to enter and visit. The most famous feature here is probably the white pagoda in the middle. It is a stupa-shaped pagoda, named because its body resembles an inverted bowl, also known as a Lama Pagoda, which is a Tibetan Buddhist pagoda. The Bodhisattvas enshrined in the hall here seem to be different from those in other temples, as they have beards, which is indeed rare. According to online introductions, this temple houses a copy of the Lotus Sutra. Anyway, I didn't find this treasure of the temple, but the photos taken inside the temple are quite beautiful. Don't say I lack ambition; in life, it's all about being at ease.

Datong Fahua Temple | A temple with a significant history
| A temple with a significant history.🌟 Fahua Temple is located in the eastern part of the ancient city of Datong, with its main attraction being a bowl-shaped glazed Lama tower, the rest of the buildings are newly built.
However, these new buildings also have a significant history. For example, the glazed archway in front of the gate is a replica of the Beihai Xiaoxitian in Beijing, with its vibrant colors and royal grandeur.
♦The layout of the first three entrances is completely modeled after the layout and architectural style of the Ciyun Temple in Tianzhen County, Shanxi. Since Ciyun Temple is closed all year round, visiting here compensates for the regret. The pavilion-style drum tower and bell tower are relatively rare, and the round side doors next to the main hall create a sense of Jiangnan garden.
♦The last entrance is the Fahua Tower courtyard. The Fahua Temple tower in the center is a provincial protection in Shanxi, built in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, and is the only bowl-shaped glazed Lama tower in Datong. The tower is built on a hexagonal platform, with a cave built on the west side of the platform. Above the cave door are the three large stone-carved characters 'Xiaodongtian'. The tower body is white, with a small window on each of the four sides of the tower body, made of glazed tiles. The overall appearance is elegant and upright, quite elegant. According to the latest approved documents, there are plans to allow tourists to climb the tower after it is repaired. However, the problem of the tower's tilt is not included in the repair.
♦At the end of the tower courtyard is a scripture hall, a replica of the Falun Hall of the Yonghe Palace in Beijing. Its unique shape and golden decorations make it look elegant and luxurious.
♦Because the national protected temples in Datong do not allow incense, this place has become a place for ordinary believers to perform rituals. Monks preach here, various activities are endless, and the incense is booming.
