Shenzhen Tourism Only after arriving do you realize that Shenzhen is more than just parks and malls
Shenzhen is so big, I want to go see It's widely said that in Shenzhen, if you have money you go shopping, if not, you visit parks. But that's only if you haven't seen this guide Even the parks are worth visiting
This article is a collection of some classic attractions, which friends from other places can refer to.
More niche attractions and in-depth tours will be updated later, especially for the working people in Shenzhen! Don't miss out on the weekends~
✅ Classic Attractions Recommendations:
Jiedao Sha
Highly recommended! The scenery is particularly good, and the sea is the clearest glass sea I've seen in so many places. Just make sure to do a good job with sunscreen, I got several shades darker when I returned
Nantou Ancient Town
It's a Shenzhen specialty, with generally higher prices. The prices of small items in some boutique shops are also relatively high, so I didn't buy many things I liked 555 If you have plenty of time, it's still worth a visit. It's also the filming location for 'Hello Life'~
Xianhu Botanical Garden
Also highly recommended! For those with enough stamina, I actually suggest walking up there. It's at most around 30,000 steps on WeChat, and I walked both ways, just took it as exercise. If you happen to visit during the flowering season, there will be many tourists and the scenery is even more unique~ For those who are not physically strong, taking the bus is convenient, but you might miss the scenery along the way, and you'll directly reach the top of the mountain at Hongfa Temple, which is quite picturesque
Dongmen Old Street
All the sense of the Shenzhen era is here. It's an older district. The first McDonald's in China is here, and many people come to check in. There are also many clothes and pants in the Dongmen shopping district that are particularly cheap and of good quality. Those who love shopping can visit more, it's very affordable
Xiwang Mangrove Park
Recommended to go in the afternoon or evening, the sunset is very beautiful, and there are many people catching tadpoles and small crabs, worth a visit. Walking home slowly with friends in the evening breeze is extremely comfortable
Talent Park
It's actually right next to Shenzhen's MixC World, so I visited the Spring Bamboo Building and Talent Park together. After shopping at MixC World in the afternoon, I went directly to the nearby Talent Park to see the night view. There's a light show around eight or nine in the evening
Gangxia North
It's a popular subway station, I suggest you don't go there specially, you can just get to Gangxia North when you take the subway and check it out on the way. It's a very beautiful subway station! It's really worth visiting as an attraction
Of course, there are also the well-known Window of the World, Splendid China, and Overseas Chinese Town, which are all very worthwhile attractions. Friends from other places are advised to stay in Futian or Nanshan, as the subway is very convenient to go anywhere~~ If you want to go to the beach, you can stay in Yantian or Dapeng for a night

Fairy lake is a botanist's dream land
Fairy Lake Botanical Gardens or Xianhu Gardens is a stunning nature park found to the east of Shenzhen's Luohu district. It is closest to the Xianhu Road subway station on line 2.
The park is 20RMB per person for entry and you can use a shuttle bus to quickly travel around the perimeter of the park (highly recommended in the heat of summer) or choose to walk around the road. If you choose to walk you will get a more intimate view of the thousands of different species of trees, flowers, cacti and every other kind of plant they have in this park. Most plants have a plaque showing their name in English, Chinese and latin name.
The park has several areas of note to visit including: a large temple that is in use by monks, a pagoda, an area of trees planted by recent famous political figures, a bonsai tree area, a cactus area, a fossil forest, an aquatic plant area, a paleontological museum and the central lake area with some interesting bridges.
The highlights for me were the fossil forest and the cactus area, I never knew so many amazing and unique species of cacti existed.
One of the coolest places I've discovered in Shenzhen, highly recommend for nature enthusiasts.

The Lakeshore 😘
For me, The Lakeshore is the best part of the entire Fairylake Botanical Garden. ❤️
The Fairylake, also known as Lake Xian (Xianhu) is a man~made lake with small rustic bridges, pagodas, and halls all over the area.
Addition to its serene beauty is that quaint coffee shop tucked in the trees on the lakeshore. Its called Asakusa coffee. Looks like a hide out for elves, dwarfs and fairies. ❤️ Imagine them sipping coffee in the morning. Whimsical ✨✨✨
It is the focal point of the garden.
Founded in 1983, FairyLake Botanical Garden first opened to public in 1988.
Come check it out and get your cameras ready!

A garden from a fairytale... ❤️
Truly it stands for its name, FAIRY LAKE BOTANICAL GARDEN... It's like, it comes out straight from a fairy tale book. 😍
Fairy Lake Botanical Garden also known as Xianhu Botanical Garden is a 1349.20 acre botanical garden located at Liantang Subdistrict in Luohu, Shenzhen. It is situated at the foot of the Sycamore mountain (Wutongshan), beside the Shenzhen reservoir. Infact there is an entry way, or a starting point of a trail goin up the the Wutong mountain inside Fairy Lake garden.
This garden got a "National AAAA level tourist site" by the China National Tourism Administration in 2007.
This garden got several gardens inside it. Like the Orchid and Butterfly garden, Bonsai garden, to name a few. The Fairy Lake itself, plus the famous Hongfa temple is also located within Fairylake Botanical garden.
Entrance fee is 15rmb (adult).
Pay it a visit. It's worth it. 👍❤️

Fairy Lake, Xianhu Botanical Park
Fairy Lake or Xianhu gardens is a large botanical park located in Yantian district of Shenzhen, to get there you should take the subway to Xianhu road and walk for about 5 minutes to get to the entrance. Alternatively you could take a 20 min shuttle bus or taxi from Luohu.
It costs 10RMB per person for entry which is really cheap for what you get access to. The park is primarily a large road and walking trail filled with different species of plants, most of the trees and flowers have labels telling you their scientific names which is really cool. If you dont want to walk all the way around the park (probably takes 1.5 hours) you can take a bus to the interesting points. I would suggest the bus if you travel here during hot summer months as it can get particularly humid and sweaty here.
There are several points of interest around the park, the first of which is the main central lake, with a small rocky beach area and a few small rivers, they sometimes have boats on the lake. Nearby are some trees planted by famous Chinese leaders. There are several small gardens like aquatic plants, bonsai garden (currently closed), fossil forest, pagoda, temple and cactus garden. The cacti are particularly impressive and i highly recommend visiting.
There is also a geological museum, and you can pay extra to enter the temple area which is inhabited by monks.

Xianhu Botanical Garden | Shenzhen's Emerald Gem, New Photo Spot.
💖 Hi, babies! Today I'll be your tour guide, let's explore Shenzhen's natural treasure - Xianhu Botanical Garden!🌟🌿
As soon as you step into the garden, it's like being gently embraced by Mother Nature, the fresh air makes you forget the city's noise instantly.🏙️💨 Xianhu Botanical Garden is nestled at the foot of Wutong Mountain in Luohu District, surrounded by greenery and tranquility, it's the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city!🏞️
Now is the blooming season, the rhododendrons in Xianhu Botanical Garden are in full bloom, the pink flowers are piled up like a small mountain, so beautiful that it makes your heart itch!🌸💖
Especially the six-story parking garage, decorated with rhododendrons, looks like a pink cruise ship, it's the perfect spot for taking photos. Remember to come before 10am or after 3:30pm, the light is the softest then, and your photos will be beautiful no matter how you take them!📸✨
My tour route is as follows: Start from the Cycad Garden, then walk to Tianchi, Heavenly Paradise (although the grass has turned yellow, it still has a unique charm from afar), and finally to Hongfa Temple to experience its solemnity and tranquility.
🚶♀️🌿 Along the way, Bauhinia Garden, Bonsai Garden, Cactus & Succulent Garden... each place is a visual feast, dazzling!🌸🌵
Tired of walking? No problem, the vegetarian restaurant in the garden is a good place to go, although the queue is a bit long, the taste is really super good, and the environment is also very quiet, you can enjoy delicious food while admiring the beautiful scenery outside the window, it's so comfortable!🍽️🍚
Come to Xianhu Botanical Garden, let's fly ourselves in the embrace of nature, and enjoy this peace and beauty!💖

Hiking and Oxygen Inhalation | Discovered Another Beautiful Greenway in Shenzhen
| Discovered Another Beautiful Greenway in Shenzhen. Besides having many workers, Shenzhen has the most new parks and greenways.
Greenway Official Name: Shenzhen Luohu Wutong Greenway. The section I walked this time is Kunpeng Path Section 10 (the last picture shows the full route of the greenway~). The entire greenway starts from the south gate of Donghu Park in the west and ends at Wutong Post Station in the east, connecting Donghu Park, Shenzhen Reservoir, and Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. It is 13.1 km long and is known as one of the 'Top Ten Fitness Trails in Shenzhen'.
Parking: If you want to park inside Donghu Park, you need to make a reservation in advance on the WeChat public account. Since I didn't make a reservation in advance, I parked directly at the adjacent Luohu Leisure Park parking lot, which has plenty of parking spaces!
Route: This time, I mainly chose to walk around the lake in the park plus a small section of the Wutong Greenway. It took about 3 hours to complete. The specific route is: South Gate of Donghu Park - Luohu Sports Park - Wutong Misty Road - West Gate of Donghu Park - Shenzhen Reservoir - Palm Garden (for picnics and tents) - Fishing Area - Return.
Tips: This is a leisure greenway that integrates cycling and hiking. The park has complete facilities, suitable for family outings, fishing, and picnics. There is also a stream tracing point next to the parking lot. After hiking a few hundred meters, you can reach Luohu Sports Park. The basketball court is free to use before 5 pm, and the badminton court is free to use all day. Lots of benefits!

Fairylake Botanical Garden: Perfect for a Visit Now!
This is a spontaneous destination where you can just go whenever you feel like it📍🗺️
After reading many travel blogs, everyone seems to mention Fairylake Botanical Garden and Hongfa Temple.
So I decided to check it out! But I didn't do any research📚⋯⋯
Upon arrival, I didn't have a mainland China mobile number
But to enter, you need to purchase through their website and scan a QR code, which took me almost 15 minutes. I was about to turn back when I finally found a cash counter🥹 Direct adult ticket for $15 and at last, I was able to get in.
🌲Fairylake Botanical Garden
🌟Once inside, you have to take their $3 tour bus🚌
Starting the walk on foot might leave your legs sore and you sweating profusely
1️⃣Hongfa Temple➡️
2️⃣Podocarpus Garden➡️
3️⃣Bonsai Garden🪴➡️
4️⃣Cacti and Succulent Plants🥹
5️⃣Walk back to the main gate along the lake✅
Definitely not recommended to wear a mini skirt
There are lots of mosquitoes, and you'll need to reapply mosquito repellent and sunscreen🧴
After the whole trip,
I immediately became the temporary leader for the highest daily exercise count of the month🫢😹

The stunning Bougainvillea waterfall is just too beautiful! It's right in Shenzhen!
The Bougainvillea waterfall in Shenzhen Xianhu Botanical Garden is located in the parking area, where a five-story high flower wall pours down like nature's palette, blooming with tender romance. Unlike the common bright pink, the Bougainvilleas here are predominantly light pink, resembling a cherry blossom tunnel in spring, yet with an added touch of tropical passion and resilience. From October to April of the following year is the peak blooming season for Bougainvilleas, when they bloom vengefully, turning the parking lot into the most incredible dreamy garden.
🏞️ Must-visit attractions:
- Best time to take photos: The soft light before sunset allows you to capture the gentlest pink of the Bougainvilleas. Remember to plan your trip in advance to avoid missing the best light and shadow.
- Try different angles and compositions, such as shooting from below the flower waterfall or using reflections to add depth to your photos.
- Why not slow down and wander through the flowers, feeling the surprise and tranquility of an unexpected encounter.
🚗 Detailed address:
Shenzhen Xianhu Botanical Garden parking lot, accessible from Exit C3 of Line 8, no entrance ticket required for close-up viewing.
🛣️ Transportation tips:
- Subway: Take the subway to Line 8, get off at Exit C3, and walk to reach the destination.
- Bus: Several bus routes go directly to the vicinity of Xianhu Botanical Garden. After getting off, follow the signs and walk for a few minutes to arrive.
🍲 Food recommendations:
- On the way to Xianhu Botanical Garden, try the IMA Cap Western restaurant at the exit of Longhua subway station to add a refined taste to your journey.
- On the way back, don't miss the seafood stalls in Shenzhen. Fresh seafood paired with chilled beer is the perfect end to a day's journey.
🏞️ Nearby attractions recommendations:
- Wutong Mountain Scenic Area: Not far from the Bougainvillea waterfall is Shenzhen's highest peak, Wutong Mountain. Climb to the top for a different view of the city.
- East Overseas Chinese Town: Experience the perfect combination of eco-tourism and cultural entertainment. Whether it's the tranquility of Tea Stream Valley or the excitement of Knight Valley, both are exceptional choices for a visit.

The flower exhibition in the Greater Bay Area has been criticized, so there's no need to squeeze through crowds anymore
No need to rush to Xianhu, and it's free, which is simply fantastic! Many posts are criticizing it, but in fact, it's a very good option, as it has discouraged many people's intentions, making their arguments fall apart on their own. Therefore, I plan to go again next year, avoiding the throngs of people to enjoy a more comfortable experience. After all, compared to crowded attractions, I prefer this kind of niche yet fun way of visiting. Looking forward to exploring it again next year

🌟Where to go and how to play?
🟢In the Xianhu Botanical Garden, pass the Hongfa Temple and walk forward for a few minutes to the Fern Center. (You can refer to the map in the comments for details)
🟢Go straight to the Fern Center and up the stairs, in one or two minutes you'll reach a small platform where you can go left or right; I went up from the right and then came down in a circle.
🟢The air here is very good, not many people, very quiet, the sound of insects and birds is particularly clear, it's fine to go alone, there are security patrols inside.
🟢It's also very suitable for family outings, forest photography can heal your soul.
🟢For photography, there are many good spots on the stairs, and there's also a pavilion above with hardly any people, great for taking pictures.
🌟What should you pay attention to?
🔴If you attract mosquitoes, bring some mosquito repellent, there weren't many mosquitoes when I went, but there were some buzzing around.
🔴Some paths are blocked, remember not to go there to avoid unnecessary trouble.
🔴The mountain is not high, you will reach the top quickly without rushing.

The Xianhu Botanical Garden is bustling with visitors during the Qingming Festival
Located in Luohu District of Shenzhen, the Xianhu Botanical Garden is nestled against Wutong Mountain, the city's highest peak to the east, and Shenzhen Reservoir to the west. Covering an area of 546 hectares, it was established in 1983 and officially opened to the public in 1988. It is a botanical garden that integrates species conservation, scientific research, education, and tourism.
The Xianhu Botanical Garden preserves over 8,000 plant species and has established various specialized gardens such as the Cycad Conservation Center, Magnolia Garden, Rare Trees Garden, Palm Garden, Bamboo Area, Shade Plant Area, Desert Plant Area, Fruit Garden, Aquatic Plant Garden, Peach Blossom Garden, Gymnosperm Area, and Bonsai Garden.
The garden is divided into six major scenic areas: the Heavenly Scenery Area, Lake Area, Temple Area, Desert Plant Area, Fossil Forest Scenic Area, and Pine and Rhododendron Scenic Area. It features unique garden attractions such as the Cave of Wonders, Liangyi Pavilion, Jade Belt Bridge, Dragon Honor Tower, Listening Waves Pavilion, and Lansheng Pavilion, as well as a distinctive Paleontology Museum. The beautiful natural scenery, unique garden architecture, and mysterious plant kingdom are endlessly praised.
The Palm Area is lush with green grass and interspersed with coconut and screwpine trees, presenting a rich tropical landscape; in the Shade Plant Area, carnivorous plants lie in wait to capture their prey; the vibrant flowers of the Dancing Orchid resemble court ladies stepping gracefully in dance; in the Fossil Forest, agate fossils stand proudly, their tree rings undiminished by eons, as if recounting Earth's ancient and dramatic history; the Desert Greenhouse is filled with colorful xerophytic plants; at dawn, the bell of Hongfa Temple echoes, and the chanting is solemn and moving;
at sunset, the lake shimmers, and the reflections of green trees and pavilions paint a picturesque scene that makes one linger and forget to return.

It's stunningly beautiful‼️In a second, you're transported back to Kanas, and there's a blooming rhododendron🌺, giving you the feeling of being in Yunnan
There's a wide variety of plants💐including amaryllis, orchids, pansies, rhododendrons, and many air pineapples, with superb design that perfectly blends the wild with the man-made
👣The weather wasn't great on the way down the mountain, and it was peak time, so we had to queue for the bus. We chose to walk down the mountain🚶which took 33min, with a gentle slope, making it relatively easy
Traveling on holidays is really tough, and we even encountered thunderstorms halfway through, making it even tougher.
Let's go again on a sunny day.
