Yesanpo's 'Nine-Bend Yellow River Lantern' is an ancient Han Chinese folk activity in Hebei Province, with a history of more than six hundred years. 'Nine-Bend Yellow River Lantern', also known as 'Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation', is arranged according to the positions of the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams in the I Ching, forming nine bends with the traditional pattern of unbroken wealth. Inside the formation, there are the eight palaces of Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun, Dui, and the central palace, symbolizing the nine provinces of China. The formation is also a military layout that is easy to defend and hard to attack, named for its resemblance to the winding Yellow River. Every year on the Lantern Festival, the village of Dayumen in Yesanpo will be decorated with lights and hold a 'Nine-Bend Yellow River Lantern Festival' for three days, with performances during the day and lantern turning at night. Friends and relatives from neighboring villages dozens of miles around will come to attend and enjoy the event.
