Learning History & Culture at Guizhou Museum
Welcome to the provincial museum of Guizhou, located in Jinyang, Guangshan Lake District. It is conveniently located along a major road, slightly opposite the Guiyang international convention center. Entrance is free but an online booking is required as there are many people who go to visit the museum. The architect who designed this building definitely knows what he was doing, it’s amazing, very big and very colorful even on the outside confirming the Guizhou motto: Colorful Guizhou. There are various floors once you enter, each section dedicated to different displays. There is the history section, fossils section, clothing section, silverware section, art section, calligraphy section and a special one according to me, the children’s art section (where kids showcase their art) There are also a number of souvenir shops in level -1 where one can buy books, silverware, dyed fabrics all showing the history and culture of Guizhou. It’s quite an experience for history and culture lovers and there’s a lot to learn. Groups can organize a guide to help and introduce different sections of the museum, for individuals, one can get a gadget with prerecorded audio introducing everything in the museum. I loved it.

Guizhou Provincial Museum, Guiyang
We visited Guiyang in winter, while the weather was unfortunately cold and a bit snowy. Therefore it was good to find an attraction that was inside and was interesting. The museum is easiest to get to by taking the Metro and alighting at the International Conference Center. At the entrance, you need to scan the code and get a free digital ticket to enter. Once inside, you will learn about the history and culture of colorful Guizhou province. From the diverse people and their cultures and traditions, to prehistoric history and art. You will need to take about 1.5 hours to see everything, as there is much to see here. Definitely worth a visit if in the city. 👍👍👍

Self-driving from Chengdu to Guizhou/Xiaoqikong Scenic Area.
Guiyang + Libo Xiaoqikong Scenic Area
📅Travel tips:
Day 1: Depart from Chengdu to Guiyang, stay overnight in Guanshanhu District
Day 2: Guizhou Provincial Museum, Jiaxiu Tower, stay overnight in the city
Day 3: Libo Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, stay overnight in Libo
Day 4: Return
🏨Accommodation tips: [Niche recommendation] Don't stay in the city center of Guiyang, we highly recommend Guanshanhu District, which is close to the toll station. The new district is very impressive, with clean and tidy streets. Most hotels were newly built this year, with new facilities! Don't stay at the east gate of Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, we highly recommend the homestays at the west gate, which are less crowded and quiet!
💗Other tips: Enter and exit from the east gate of Xiaoqikong Scenic Area. Drive directly to the east gate, take the sightseeing bus to the west gate after visiting the ancient bridge, and then go all the way east downhill, which is effortless!
🍽️Must-try food: Sour soup hot pot; beef noodles; Changwang noodles; highly recommend Qian Dashu for stir-fried dishes... There are so many delicious foods!

A place that feels like both Hong Kong and Chongqing (Guiyang).
The old city center of Guiyang is Jiaxiu Tower, which is a must-visit. However, it's not because of any special features, but rather because there's almost nothing else worth seeing in Guiyang in winter except for this small pavilion. In summer, however, Guiyang is a great place to escape the heat. The temperature is not too high, and while not as cool as Kunming, it's far more comfortable than Chengdu and Chongqing. The reason why tourism in Guizhou has exploded this summer is also related to its climate. A trip to Qianling Mountain is truly comfortable, and highly recommended.
The Guizhou Provincial Museum is also worth a visit, especially its paleontological exhibits. The Guizhou Dragon and the Qianyu Dragon are famous, so I won't go into detail here. Guizhou doesn't appear much in history, but it shone brightly during the Ming Dynasty, especially during the late Ming and Southern Ming periods. Guizhou's Tusi were a powerful political force in the southwestern frontier, and it took the Ming government decades to suppress them. Today, the Hailongtun Ruins in Guizhou are the most authentic historical witness to this event.
Guiyang is mountainous, and its buildings are generally tall, especially in the Huaguoyuan Business District, which is definitely a mini Hong Kong in the southwest. Although Guiyang's average salary is only one-tenth of Hong Kong's, the city's structure is very similar to Kowloon. The White House in Huaguoyuan is also Guiyang's most famous internet celebrity check-in spot, but apart from being photogenic, it has no other value.

Guizhou! Guizhou! Refreshing Guizhou!
🎈When summer arrives, my heart starts flying towards Guizhou. This refreshing city has an irresistible charm.😍
🌟【Food Paradise, A Feast for the Taste Buds】
🥘Sour soup beef and sour soup fish are tangy and appetizing, boosting your appetite. The rich broth of bean and rice hotpot fills every bite with happiness. The unique flavor of Duoduo powder hotpot is unforgettable. The combination of Lei's tofu balls and sour soup crispy rice is simply perfect. The griddle is the best choice for a late-night snack, with various ingredients cooked to perfection. Guizhou is also a paradise for potato lovers, with roasted potatoes and diced potatoes in glutinous rice exuding a charming aroma. Intestine and blood noodles, old vegetarian noodles, and crispy noodles are all so delicious they make you cry.😋
🌟【Picturesque Scenery, Nature's Masterpiece】
🌳Guizhou is a true city of mountains and water, with mountains blending into the city. The undulating contours of the mountains are faintly visible among the buildings, giving a mysterious and beautiful feeling. There is no support from plains here, but it has a unique charm. Scholars say Guizhou is a "Southwest-flavored" garden city, and it's not an exaggeration at all. Here, you can feel the magic of nature.
🌟【Leisurely Life, A Haven for the Soul】
🎇Guizhou's nightlife is rich and colorful, with bustling streets and numerous stalls. It is full of a strong sense of community and the warmth of everyday life, making you feel the reality and beauty of life. Elderly people sit around under trees on street corners, playing mahjong and cards, enjoying their leisure time. In Guizhou, everyone can find their own happiness, and tourists are no exception. There is no hustle and bustle or pressure of big cities here, only the comfort of food and life.😃
💥Where does Guizhou's "refreshing" come from?
🏔First, the pleasant temperature is a major highlight. Guizhou is located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with cool mountain breezes, abundant water vapor, and frequent rain. The average summer temperature is around 23°C, making it a perfect summer resort. Even Wang Yangming praised Guizhou: "The banana leaves in front of the eaves are green like a forest, and the long summer is free from heat."
🏔Secondly, the rich and interesting life makes people feel extremely happy. Guizhou is a perfect combination of ancient and trendy, with many elements loved by young people. People living here have a high sense of happiness.🥰
🎈【How to Play in Guizhou? Check This Out】
1⃣City Walk along the Nanming River: Stroll along the Nanming River and feel the century-old history of Guizhou. The beautiful reflection of Jiaxiu Tower and the ancient charm of Wenchang Pavilion are mesmerizing.✨

Travel in Guizhou · A complete guide to visiting the Guizhou Provincial Museum!
⭐️Museum Introduction: The Guizhou Provincial Museum is like a three-dimensional history book, connecting Guizhou's past and future. The first and second floors are the 'Ethnic Guizhou' exhibition halls, and the third floor houses the 'Historical Guizhou' and 'Paleontology Kingdom' exhibition halls. The Guizhou Provincial Museum has a total of 7 exhibition halls, but in reality, there are 3 main ones, spanning from the first to the fourth floor. The remaining so-called exhibition halls 4-7 are actually used for exhibitions when available, but usually, there's nothing there. What we see are actually its conference rooms and office halls, and the 4D cinema is not open for public viewing, so it can be mostly ignored. Here, you can find artifacts from 2000 years ago—the Eastern Han Dynasty bronze chariot and horse 🐎, which is a masterpiece among the same type of chariot and horse models unearthed in the country and is also the museum's treasure.
⭐️Major Exhibition Halls of the Museum:
01 'Ethnic Guizhou' Basic Exhibition Hall: Mainly displays the ethnic culture and artifacts of the Han, Miao, Bouyei, Dong, and other ethnic groups. Exhibits include Miao women's clothing from Huaxi, Guiyang, Miao embroidered square flower back fans, Miao embroidered 'rice' and 'double happiness' flower block back fans, geometric pattern back fans from the Gejia people in Huangping, Bouyei batik women's costumes from Liuzhi, Miao silver ornaments, etc.
02 'Historical Guizhou' Basic Exhibition Hall: Based on the historical development of Guizhou, it focuses on five parts: 'Exploring Guanyin Cave, Tracing Yelang, The Road to Establishing the Province, Cultural and Educational Development, and Red Traces of Qianshan.' Exhibits include bronze chariots, Pingbo bells, the bronze seal of the Qingjiang Xiezhong Army Department in Guizhou, lion-carved bronze belt hooks, lacquered ear cups, etc.
03 Paleontology Kingdom Theme Exhibition Hall: Exhibits include the Weng'an Biota, Kaili Biota, and Triassic marine reptile fossil groups from Guanling, Xingyi, and Panxian, etc.
04 Youth Digital Experience Hall/4D Cinema: By organizing and refining the natural, historical, cultural, and artistic information covered in the exhibition system of the Guizhou Provincial Museum, it focuses on demonstrating and experiencing key materials such as paleontology, human development and evolution, minority myths and legends, and intangible cultural heritage.

Guiyang’s Brilliant Area!
In Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province, several notable mansions and historical buildings reflect the city's rich heritage. Here are a few significant sites:
1. **Guiyang Former Government Building**: This historical building, once used by the local government, showcases colonial-era architecture and is an important landmark in the city.
2. **Guizhou Provincial Museum**: While not a mansion per se, this museum features a significant collection of artifacts, including those from historical mansions and cultural sites in the region.
3. **Laojie Street**: While not a mansion, Lajia Street has traditional architecture and offers a glimpse into historic building styles and local life.
Guiyang is more known for its scenic spots and cultural sites rather than mansions specifically, but these sites provide historical context and architectural interest.

Guizhou Travel Guide, Summer Resort
Leading tours for 8 years, my favorite is still Guizhou‼️|||Want to take the kids out during summer vacation, but not from a wealthy family. The reason to recommend Guizhou is not only because it's beautiful, fun, and delicious, but also because the expenses are not high.
.🌿
🚆For long-distance travel, I recommend taking the high-speed train. It saves time and money, and children get half-price tickets.
·
🌿
1. Group tours are suitable for moms who don't want to plan and want peace of mind.
-
2. Taking kids out is not easy, you need to take leave and spend money, so you want to spend money wisely. Route 32 is designed for a deep and slow-paced experience, where you can learn something while having fun. It's a niche and in-depth tour, with the guide taking care of the kids, making it suitable for solo parents traveling with children.

After being closed for an upgrade and renovation for 7 months, the Guizhou Provincial Museum reopened in February this year. The museum has made selections in its exhibitions, focusing on introducing the cultural history of Guizhou spanning 300,000 years. Geological landscapes and folk culture will be undertaken by more specialized museums. More than half of the exhibits are collections from other museums, but this does not affect the museum's featured exhibits - the bronzes. The bronze drums and the distinctive patterns on the bronzes, which are not commonly seen in Central Plains culture, are indeed eye-catching!
-
Must-see treasures💼
① A 1:1 3D replica of the tomb of Yang Can, the 13th generation Tusi (local chieftain) of Bozhou Yang family, with some real artifacts from the tomb embedded in certain areas...
② The bronze strips used by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang when he was 53 years old to pray for eternal life...
③ The Eastern Han Dynasty bronze chariot and horses, the most complete piece unearthed from Han tombs in China...
④ The Ming Dynasty gold crown inlaid with gemstones and featuring nine phoenixes and three dragons, which was a burial object for the main and side wives of the Tusi of the Bozhou Yang family...
⑤ Bronze drums, a large number of exhibits that refresh the understanding of bronzes. The bronze drum is one of the cultural characteristics of the ancient Baiyue people, used by the ancients for worshipping heaven and earth, and is a unique cultural relic of the minority groups in the southwest region...

The first section 'Ethnic Guizhou' reveals the harmonious coexistence between people and nature, and among people themselves, through the display of the production, life, and customs of the eighteen ethnic groups that have long resided in Guizhou;
The second section is 'Paleontological Kingdom', which presents the prehistoric marine world of Guizhou to the public, offering a glimpse into the explosion and evolution of life. It is my favorite exhibition hall!!!
The third section is 'Historical Guizhou', which shows the historical and cultural development of Guizhou from the appearance of humans to the Ming and Qing dynasties, and also features a special exhibition area for museum collections.
The fourth section is 'Red Tracks in the Qian Mountains', which displays the revolutionary journey of the Red Army in Guizhou.

Guizhou Provincial Museum: The collection is as colorful as the architecture
The first impression of the Guizhou Provincial Museum's architecture is that it's flashy and colorful.
Colorful Guizhou, with its diverse ethnic groups, is why the museum's building is also adorned in vibrant, colorful decorations, exuding a lively atmosphere. Thus, the 'flashy' museum visually presents a colorful aura, reflecting the diversity and integration of ethnic cultures.
The exhibits of the Guizhou Provincial Museum are equally colorful. There are bronzes, porcelains, Buddha statues, and paintings that have been passed down from the Central Plains to the regions of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan, as well as various ritual implements, costumes, and gold and silver wares from the local ethnic groups and Tusi regimes in Guizhou.
The museum also displays national first-class cultural relics with southwestern characteristics, such as bronze horse-drawn carriages, relics unearthed from the ancient Yelang Kingdom, gold and silver wares of the Yang family Tusi, and letters from Han Qi of the Northern Song Dynasty, all of which are considered the 'treasures of the museum'.

Spring Outing to the Fortress (Part Four): Guizhou Provincial Museum ('In the Light'—Yin Guangzhong Art Documentary Exhibition)
A temporary exhibition at a museum is often seen by insiders as the 'boundary and pattern' of the museum. A good temporary exhibition can usually attract a large number of cultural relic enthusiasts and art lovers to make a special trip.
From January 26 to April 7, the 'In the Light'—Yin Guangzhong Art Documentary Exhibition landed in the No. 6 temporary exhibition hall of the Guizhou Provincial Museum. This is the first art documentary exhibition held by the Guizhou Provincial Museum in its 71 years, and it has sparked a viewing craze since its opening.
Yin Guangzhong, who passed away in 2020, was a native artist from Guizhou. In the late 1970s, the 'Guiyang Five Youths Painting Exhibition' held in Xidan, Beijing, caused a sensation, and Yin Guangzhong was one of the exhibiting artists.
Yin Guangzhong was a native artist from Guizhou who emerged in the 1980s and 1990s. Spring Outing to the Fortress (Part 3): Guizhou Provincial Museum (Ethnic Guizhou)
Guizhou Province, abbreviated as 'Qian' or 'Gui', is a plateau and mountainous province in the hinterland of Southwest China. It is one of the cradles of ancient life on Earth and also one of the regions with the most typical karst landforms in the world, known for its spectacular and colorful karst landscape.
Since the Spring and Autumn period, five major ethnic groups, namely the Huaxia, Baiyue, Baipu, Miao Yao, and Di Qiang, have lived on this mysterious land, creating the ancient civilization of Guizhou and laying a solid foundation for the cultural diversity of Guizhou.
Today, ethnic groups such as the Han, Miao, Buyi, and Dong live on this land, together creating the colorful culture of Guizhou.
The Ethnic Guizhou themed exhibition hall mainly displays the ethnic culture and relics of the Han, Miao, Buyi, Dong, and other ethnic groups. The exhibits include Miao women's clothing from Huaxi District in Guiyang, Miao embroidered square-patterned back fans from Guiyang, Miao colorful embroidered 'rice' and 'happiness' pattern back fans, geometric pattern back fans from Gejia in Huangping County, Buyi wax-dyed women's costumes from Liuzhi, Miao silver ornaments, and others.
This Song dynasty egret-patterned colored wax-dyed pleated skirt was unearthed from the Coffin Cave in Pingba in 1987. The waist of the skirt is made of hemp, white in color, 31 centimeters long; the body of the skirt is made of cotton homespun, 62.5 centimeters long and 51.2 centimeters wide. The wax-dyed pattern is divided into two parts, the upper part features flying egrets, and the lower part has patterns resembling flowing clouds.
This 'egret-patterned colored wax-dyed pleated skirt' combines the techniques of picking flowers, embroidery, and wax dyeing. The patterns are intricate and varied, presenting a rich and colorful appearance. The pattern is modeled after the egret patterns on early bronze drums, with large images, smooth lines, and minimal coloring, blending joy, rigor, passion, and generosity, reflecting the artistic view and craftsmanship of ancient ethnic minorities. It plays an important role in the study of the history of Guizhou wax dyeing, ancient Guizhou ethnic costumes, and their evolution.
The Ming dynasty crown with nine phoenixes and three dragons inlaid with gemstones is 29 centimeters high, 38 centimeters wide, and weighs 1388.8 grams. The crown is graceful and luxurious, exquisitely made. The silver hat frame is decorated with dragons, phoenixes, and flowers all made of gold filigree, and the flowers are finely woven from gold threads.
The front and back of the crown have different designs. The central design on the front is a large peony flower, with five phoenixes standing above it in an arc, and three dragons soaring at the top of the crown, with horizontal flower ears on the left and right. The center of the back features a lotus flower design, with gemstones inlaid at the tip of the pistil and petals.
Above and below the lotus flower, there is a large diamond-shaped flower block and a butterfly, with two phoenixes standing among the flowers on the upper left and right. In the center below hangs a semi-circular large flower block, with curled cloud head flower wings on the left and right. The entire piece is inlaid with red and green gemstones, dazzling and eye-catching.

Guizhou Provincial Museum
The Guizhou Provincial Museum is located in the Guanshanhu District, on the north side of Guanshan Lake Park, and it is a new museum.
The new Guizhou Provincial Museum has three floors, with exhibition halls ranging from primitive society to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Due to the mountainous terrain and scarcity of flat land, as well as the presence of many ethnic minorities, the central dynasty's rule over Guizhou was established step by step. Guizhou's provincial boundaries were essentially set during the Ming dynasty, and were further adjusted by Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing dynasty.
Guizhou is all mountains, and it can be said to be the only province without a large plain. In recent years, Guizhou has developed rapidly, with tourism revenue surpassing that of Yunnan for two consecutive years, ranking first in the nation.
Colorful Yunnan, diverse Guizhou. Worth a visit.

Guiyang Travel|Understanding a city begins with the museum~
Reading a city is like reading a book. The first chapter is opened from the museum. This is the most direct and simple way to interpret.
Guizhou Museum, from which you can learn that Guizhou is a multi-ethnic province, covering Miao, Yi, Yi, Tujia, Buyi, Shui, Bai and many other ethnic groups. Have a different cultural history.
The Miao, Yi, Shui, and Bai ethnic houses are mostly dry-column buildings, which is an earlier primitive house. Such a house can perfectly solve the problem of ventilation and humidity.
There are many festivals in Guizhou. There is a ridiculous saying that there are 365 days in a year and 366 festivals in Guizhou. Every time a big holiday, men, women and children will dress up, and their costumes are also very fashionable, and the workmanship is exquisite and meticulous. Most of them embroidered brightly colored patterns, which can be described as beautiful.
In addition to the exquisite costumes, there are accessories that are also full of watch. The basics worn by the body are made of Miaoyin. When you walk, you will make a crisp sound, just like playing a Cheerful music.
These can be learned in the museum one by one~
