Last month just managed to spend time for hiking at Negeri Sembilan. Gunung Datuk is 2900ft above sea level, making it slightly higher than nearby Gunung Angsi which is around 22km away. Easy accessible by driving own vehicle.
Climbing Gunung Datuk is well worth the effort. It is quite a strenuous physical effort.
It took around 2.5 hours to reach the summit.
At the summit you can rest on the flat boulders, enjoy the magnificent views and feel the cooling breeze. You are supposed to be able to see the Straits of Malacca.
There are enormous trees in the lower parts of the mountain, including one that appears to have been partly sawn through. But the tree survived and grew back, covering over the sawn section. It's an interesting climb with lots of sights to occupy the eye, including trees with giant roots. The trail is very clear and easy to follow.
You will be paid off with the breezing airs and views when reach the top. Worth return visit someday.

📍 Itinerary & Sightseeing:
Our hike to Gunung Datuk began early in the morning to beat the crowd and enjoy the cooler air. The trail was moderately challenging, surrounded by lush jungle, and led us to a breathtaking view at the summit. The top was adorned with impressive rock formations, and the 360-degree view of the landscape made the climb truly worthwhile.
🚇 Transportation: We drove to the trailhead.
📷 Photo Spots:
The summit offered the best photo opportunities, with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding hills and forests. The large boulders at the peak also provided a perfect setting for adventurous snapshots against a clear, blue sky.
🍜 Local Cuisine:
After the hike, we treated ourselves to a well-deserved meal at Number One Top Curry House. Their famous banana leaf rice was a perfect post-hike reward, with rich curries, spiced vegetables, and crispy papadum that made the meal unforgettable.
💡 Tips:
• Go early to secure a parking spot and enjoy a peaceful hike.
• Entrance fee is RM5—make sure to have cash ready at the entrance.
Hiking Gunung Datuk was an exhilarating adventure, capped off with a delicious meal and unforgettable views. A must-visit for anyone who loves a challenging but rewarding hike!

Day trip hike with great views in Malaysia!
Takes about 5 hours in total, steep ascent but doable. RM20 per entry for foreigners and 5 RM for Malaysians. The hill is called Gunung Datuk, and can be done within a day if you set off from Singapore early in the morning, and rent a car. I'd recommend Wahdah for their great car rental services, and avoid TT Car rentals as their staff can be very intimidating and pushy.

Two months in Seremban 2
While staying in a neighborhood called Seremban, I wanted to go hiking and asked a local friend for recommendations. This place, Gunung Datuk, was recommended.
The forest is dense and cool, making it a great place for hiking.
The round-trip hiking time takes about 2 to 3 hours.
It takes about 40 minutes to get from Seremban 2 to Gunung Datuk by Grab.
Located within the Gunung Datuk Forest Reserve near the village of Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, Gunung Datuk stands at a modest height of 683m but offers expansive views of the surrounding area.
