The Seongpanak Trail, one of the most popular routes, stretches 9.7 km and is relatively gentle, making it accessible for most hikers. Along the way, there are several rest areas and breathtaking views of Jeju Island from various platforms. Alternatively, the Yeongsil Trail is shorter at 5.8 km, featuring scenic ridges and waterfalls. Whichever trail you choose, the stunning natural beauty and well-maintained paths make Hallasan a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. Highly recommended not for the faint hearted! The summit boasted awe-inspiring vistas, and it's advisable to pack some provisions to savor alongside the scenery. Consider reserving this itinerary for the final day of your journey, as it promises to be quite exhausting and necessitate ample recovery time.

Come to Jeju Island and climb a not high but absolutely scenic mountain

Taking advantage of the strong autumn colors, I recently took a friend who just came to Jeju Island to Songyue Mountain again. Rather than climbing the mountain, it's more accurate to say walking the mountain. Located in the west of Jeju Island, Songyue Mountain is a part of the occasional path. The entrance is a big slope directly to the mountainside, and what suddenly appears in front of you is the vast sea and the nearby Shanfang Mountain. This is an occasional road along the coastline with a very wide view. You can see Shanfang Mountain and Brother Island at the same time. When the weather is good, you can also overlook Hannashan Mountain. The first half of the Songyue Mountain hike is almost the grandeur of the invincible sea view, and the second half enters the pine forest style. There are purple flowers and honeysuckle that have not ended in summer on the side of the plank road. The white horses, sea women and anglers on the cliffs seen along the way must be the most authentic scenery of Jeju Island. The whole journey takes about 2 hours. Free and no tickets. After climbing the mountain, you can rest at the busy Starbucks at the foot of the mountain, and continue along the coastline, you can reach a very popular hot restaurant. South Korean tallest mountain

This is for those who like adventure..😉 Few weeks ago, I had a chance to climb Hallasan in Jeju-do which is South Korea tallest mountain. There is two trail that will reach the summit and Baengnokdam Lake, which is Gwaneusma trail and Seongpanak trail. I am lucky to be able to experienced both trail. I went up from Gwaneusma (steep and hard according to local, but for me it was ok) and went down via Seongpanak (easy trail). Most local prefer the other way round and that makes the trail more crowded. That’s why i choose to hike from Gwaneusma and go down via Seongpanak. The whole hike takes about 7 hours. But it depends on one’s fitness. How to get there? I stayed in Seogwipo, so took bus no 281 to Jeju international university and then took bus no 475 to Gwaneusma head trail. Taxi are very expensive in Jeju. So the most affordable transportation is the bus. You can also take a taxi from Jeju international university to Gwaneusma head trail (KRW6500). I started at 5am and took the bus to the starting point of the I took the way up Seongpanak trail and plan to go down Gwaneumsa Trail. It’s required to register online before since you need the qr code to pass the gate up there. They don’t want people to go down late. The open time is around 7am and it took me about 4 hours to reach the peak. Weather was nice and for the most parts it was through the forest so not too hot. The view at the top was amazing and I got some sunshine. It’s quite interesting to see people enjoying ramen there. Korean brought the hot pack to cook ramen. I enjoyed my kimbab from CU store that I bought before taking the bus there. The way down was a bit tiring but I managed to finish before 3pm. You could buy a certificate at the way out for 1000won as well. I enjoyed the hike a lot.

I S L A N D 🪨 🔴 First, the most important thing for me (yet not mandatory) in Jeju is to rent a car 🚗. it will be more convenient to travel around the island. 🟠 For accommodation, I highly recommand staying in Seogwipo area. its at the south of the island, and it takes about two hours to drive from Jeju City. 🟡 Surprisingly in Jeju there are a lot of vegetarian/vegan food options. I was so surprised by the large choice of food on this island. 🟢 the main activity for me is to hike up the hallasan mountain. you have to pay 5000₩ but its worth the beautiful view and it only takes about 40 minutes to climb up. 🔵 lastly one of my (weird) favourite thing about Jeju is that the weather is always different from one side to the other. so you can check in the morning and go in direction where the sun is out and shining 🟣 this is your sign to go to Jeju ! #koreatrip #south_korea #korea #jejuisland #jeju

#100WaysOfTravel We hiked Hallasan in early October 2024. I've researched loads of Iinformation on the net ,but non of them described how it really was in reality . So here are the tips for the Ultimate hike: 👣Only two trails lead to the top , we chose Gwaneumsa , because thought that it would be easier for us to cover most challenging part of the trail first . 👣 Start as early as you can .We started at 8:20 and reached the shelter at 11:29. At 11:30 they close the passage from the shelter further up to the mountain .And important imfo here : they REALLY close it .You will npt pass at 11:31, 11:32 or later , they take it very seriously . 👣 Bring warm clothes .The weather there changes drastically .There was a moment when it was hot ,but also when it was freezing . 👣Be prepared for many rocks .Hikimg poles were really hamdy and useful there . #koreatrip Amazing and decently tiring hike almost 2000m up, I made my ascent up at 10:10am and made it to the summit entrance gate at 12pm half an hour before it closed then another hour to get to the summit from there. Definitely recommend going before 10am so you don’t have to rush up like I did. Summit was awesome and make sure to bring some food so you can enjoy the views to a meal. Made it back down in about 2 hours and saw a lot of deers on the way which was nice. Legs were dead for about 4 days after so I’d recommend you plan a rest day or 2 after which I should’ve done.

Hallasan National Park

Hallasan National Park is one of the most famous national parks in South Korea, located on Jeju Island. The park is known for its stunning natural beauty and Hallasan Mountain, which is the highest mountain in South Korea at around 1,947 meters above sea level. Jeju Island Scenery

As the largest island in South Korea, Jeju Island was originally an active volcanic island. Over hundreds of thousands of years, the accumulation of lava, erosion by seawater, and the movement of the earth's crust have created a diverse landscape on the island. Caves, mountains, waterfalls, scattered small islands, and over 2,000 species of plants and more than 4,000 species of animals living there, all can be found. Among them, the most famous landmark is Hallasan, which stands in the center of Jeju Island. About 300,000 years ago, the long-dormant volcano of Jeju Island erupted again, and the accumulated lava, weathered over time, formed Hallasan with an altitude of 1,950 meters. In Korean, Hallasan means "a mountain high enough to pull down the Milky Way." Although it may seem like self-praise to outsiders, considering it is the highest peak in South Korea, Hallasan truly lives up to its name. Jeju Island, with its subtropical oceanic climate, is warm and spring-like all year round, and Hallasan is picturesque in all four seasons, offering endless beauty. In early spring, the mountain top is covered with snow, the rapeseed flowers sway in the wind at the mountainside, and the cherry blossoms at the foot of the mountain are as numerous as stars; in midsummer, the deep valleys have rushing waterfalls, birds sing melodiously among the lush greenery, making it a perfect natural summer resort; in late autumn, red leaves cover the valleys, and deer leap across the ridges; in severe winter, heavy snow falls, white plum blossoms bloom on the mottled branches, and wild deer leisurely walk under the trees, making one feel as if they have entered a paradise.
