Camping at Ham Tin Beach
This is one of the best beaches in Hong Kong. The sand is beautiful and although takes more than 1.5 hours to get there, it is definitely worth it.
The water is very clean and there a few restaurants on the beachside for drinks and good Cantonese food.
To get there, you can either hike or conveniently get on a speed boat from Sai kung ferry pier which takes about 30 to 45 minutes

Hidden Beaches in HK 🌊🏖️☀️👙🇭🇰
If you have never been to the beaches (e.g. Sai Wan, Ham Tin, Long Ke etc.) in Sai Kung, you are missing out!!! Unlike the mainstream public beaches in HK, these hidden beaches are not as crowded and the water is SO MUCH CLEARER. I was actually amazed when I first visited the beaches 😯
How to get there:
- EASY ROUTE: once you arrive at the sai kung public pier, you will see a lot of hawkers selling speedboat tickets, buy a return ticket from them and get on the speedboat at the designated time according to the hawkers. The journey takes around 45 mins and the tickets are approx $320 two ways
- HARDER ROUTE: take minibus 29R or taxi to sai wan pavilion the hike roughly 5 km to the beach. It is a fairly easy trail as it’s super well maintained and with mostly concrete paths.

One night camping at Ham Tin
Spending one night at Ham Tin beach gives us more time to relax and more interesting experiences to be amused by 🤩.
It was summer when we went there for camping.
Beach is so beatiful with its clear blue water and fine sand🏖️. As the sun setting down, tide gets high yet still many people enjoy swimming 🏊🏼.
Wake up at dawn the next day, waiting for the sunrise 🌅, it's an amazing way to start a day
I tried the hiking 🚶🏻♀️🥾 trail and considered easy.
Up from the high ground you can see a full incredible view of Ham Tin Beach, it's just amazed me. Always remember to bring enough water 💦when you want to go for hiking, it's burning 🔥🔥 during daytime
This beach has facilities like toilet with plenty of water and kiosk where we can buy snacks and drinks.
How to get there:
By speedboat from Sai Kung pier, cost around HKD120-150 and take about 30mnt

Adventurous trip to enjoy day and night at Ham Tin Beach
Ham Tin beach is part of Tai Long Wan - the bay that consists of four breathtaking beaches: Sai Wan, Ham Tin, Tai Wan, and Tung Wan.
The beach can be reached by boat from Sai Kung Pier for about 30 minutes rides. The boat costs HKD.280 (return ticket) per person.
Arrive in Ham Tin, you can enjoy beach ambience on one side and mountain view on another side. Its clear water and choppy waves will give you a great experience of swimming and playing in the water.
Another memorable thing you can try is camping on the sand around the beach, so you will enjoy remarkable sunrise and the breeze in the morning.
There is clean toilet with plenty of water for you to stay for camping, and small restaurant if you wanna buy extra drinks and snacks.
On top of your beach-life experience, ride the boat from or to this beach in the afternoon can be very adventurous, especially if the waves are choppy! Try it!

One of the most beautiful hiking trails in Hong Kong - Nam She Tsim.
One of the most beautiful hiking trails in Hong Kong - Nam She Tsim.
After climbing Lao Hu Tou, I decided to challenge Sai Kung Ngam Snake Peak. Starting from Bei Tan Ao, climbing over Ngam Snake Peak, going to Tai Wan and then to Xian Tian Wan, and finally returning to Bei Tan Ao, the whole journey took 8 hours.
Really didn't expect to complete this hike. The last few peaks of Ranshejian are mostly made of broken stones, so one needs to be very careful. It's necessary to wear hiking shoes and anti-slip gloves, and use both hands and feet to climb up.
From afar, the angle of the mountain road looked very steep and scary, and we almost lost confidence to continue. Along the way, we met hikers who had climbed down the mountain, and they gave us some confidence and encouragement.
Finally climbed to the top of Ranshe Mountain, took 2 hours and 50 minutes, and all four companions were very excited, one is because the scenery is really beautiful, and the other is the achievement of reaching the summit. At the top of the mountain, we took photos and had a simple lunch. Because there was no food or water supply on the way, we prepared simple dry food and water before departure, and each person prepared at least two bottles of water or sports drinks. It's better to bring some nuts or energy bars, and if not too heavy, some fruits can also be brought.
Following the advice of other hikers at the mountaintop, we decided to descend towards the east bay. We went up and down several hills, skipped over the east bay, and headed to the big bay to feel the sea breeze and waves. Then we went to the salt field bay to experience the tranquility of the sea. After a short rest at the salt field bay, we returned to the north valley and descended the mountain. The salt field bay has a supply of food, water, and a restroom available.
Along the way, we met interesting hikers of all kinds, and everyone politely greeted each other. There was a young man carrying heavy camping equipment, a skilled runner running barefoot, and cool girls who stopped to rest and smoke. The most impressive was the grandfather who was nearly 71 years old and climbed with a cane to become the first to reach the summit. He told us that we were the fifth group of climbers to climb Ranshejian that day, and we felt quite accomplished.
