Zhejiang Hangzhou Railway Museum and Zhiqing Memorial Hall.
Hangzhou Railway Museum and Zhiqing Memorial Hall (hereinafter referred to as the "Two Museums") are located in Baita Park on the bank of the Qiantang River. It is a city cultural park that integrates the protection and utilization of historical buildings and railway industrial heritage. It still retains and displays many railway heritage-related contents, such as Jiangshu Railway sculptures, old steam trains, gantry cranes, special yards, etc., integrating Wu and Yue culture, Southern Song culture, Qiantang River culture, industrial culture, Zhiqing culture, and other multiple cultures.
On December 21, 2018, the "Two Museums" were officially opened to the public, with a total area of about 1,200 square meters. The entire museum is composed of two floors. The first floor is the exhibition area of the Railway Museum, which mainly displays the history of China's railway development and the development of Hangzhou's railway industry, covering an area of about 530 square meters; the second floor is the exhibition area of the Zhiqing Memorial Hall, which mainly displays the general situation of Hangzhou's Zhiqing going to various places and the hard-working experience of Hangzhou's educated youth, covering an area of about 650 square meters.
The Hangzhou Railway Museum is located in Baita Park, Zhagkou, with a deep historical origin. In 1907, the first railway in Zhejiang Province, the Jiangshu Railway, was completed and opened to traffic, and its starting station was Zhagkou Baita. As the starting point, the century-old development history of Zhejiang Railway began here. As part of the railway cultural elements of Baita Park, the Hangzhou Railway Museum is an interpretation and explanation of the railway heritage in the park and an important publicity window for the history of Baita Park and even Hangzhou Railway. The Zhiqing Memorial Hall is also located here because the Zhiqing who went north took the train from Zhagkou Baita Station to leave Hangzhou, and Zhagkou Station witnessed the moment when tens of thousands of young people in Hangzhou changed their life trajectories in the 1960s and 1970s. Therefore, in order to commemorate the century-old development history of modern Chinese railways and the Zhiqing years of that special era, the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government reserved the construction land of the "Two Museums" when planning the overall plan of Baita Park. After a lot of preliminary work, the design plan of the project was approved in October 2016, the construction unit was determined through public bidding in March 2018, and the completion acceptance was passed and opened to the public in December 2018. The visit takes about 30 minutes.
