As a Southerner, braving the cold wind and snow to visit a Northern church!
As a Southerner, my first visit to Harbin was not only cold 🥶, but what struck me the most was the magnificent and grand Saint Sophia Cathedral ⛪️. Standing in the center of the city, it seems like a guardian of history, quietly telling stories of the past. 🕌 The onion-shaped dome and green exterior walls of the church stand out and appear particularly striking and mysterious against the backdrop of blue skies and white clouds ⛅️. Upon entering the church, I was deeply captivated by its luxurious interior decorations. The towering arches, exquisite murals, and splendid chandeliers 🕯️ together create a solemn and sacred atmosphere. Additionally, the scenery around the church is also enchanting. ❄️ Snowflakes falling from the sky add a touch of romance and fantasy to this northern city.

Harbin||A Nordic-style town discovered by chance
💐Harbin||A Nordic-style town discovered by chance🍃
✨Harbin, this northern city full of exotic charm, is like a dazzling pearl, exuding enchanting allure.
🎇Strolling down Central Street, the cobblestone road beneath your feet carries a century of history, and the European-style buildings on both sides make you feel as if you are in a European town. Be sure to try the Madieer popsicle, the rich milk flavor melts in your mouth, instantly dispelling the winter cold.
🌉At night, St. Sophia Cathedral looks even more solemn and majestic under the lights. The melodious chimes echo in the sky above the city, as if telling stories of the past.
❄️When you come to the Ice and Snow World, it feels like entering a fairy tale ice kingdom. The colorful ice lanterns and exquisite ice sculptures are breathtaking. Here, you can fully release your childlike innocence and enjoy the joy brought by ice and snow.
🍲You can't miss Harbin's cuisine, such as red sausage, Di San Xian, and iron pot stew... Each dish carries a strong Northeast flavor, making your taste buds dance.
💕Harbin, a place that makes people linger, come and start your romantic journey

It's not that Europe is unaffordable, but Harbin offers better value for money.
Visited the Saint Sophia Cathedral
Checked in at the European-style Deer Fish Cafe
Walked through the Zhonghua Baroque Street in Daowai
Experienced the sunset, sunshine, and heavy rain
How can this not be considered a perfect trip?
Transportation Guide - Didi is probably the most convenient way to get around, but Harbin only has three subway lines. If you want to experience it, you can.
Local Attractions - As mentioned above, Central Street, Saint Sophia Cathedral, Zhonghua Baroque Street
Hotels - If you're not visiting in winter, it's recommended to stay in Daoli (city center)
Food and Restaurants - You can find Northeastern cuisine and BBQ everywhere. I recommend trying the freshly brewed kvass on Central Street, it tastes great.

Have you visited these places while touring Harbin?
🌟 Itinerary Planning
Day1: Daoli Food Market ➡️ Saint Sophia Cathedral ➡️ Baroque Style Street ➡️ Music Corridor
Day2: Hongzuan Morning Market ➡️ Central Street ➡️ Songhua River Cable Car
🌟 What to Eat
Northeastern Cuisine: Shanhetun is good but there are too many people in line, other places for Northeastern cuisine I think are much of a muchness
Skewers: 'Those Years Memory Barbecue' is also on Central Street, really delicious! Must be paired with Harbin Beer! Many locals go there too
Madieer Ice Pop: Look for it on Central Street! Must eat! Local masters say you'll regret it if you don't have one even in the cold
Frozen Pears and Persimmons: Worth trying, for the experience
Candied Hawthorn: Just buy the regular kind, the 5 yuan ones, no need for fancy stuff
Morning Market: It's just about the hustle and bustle, mostly crowded
🌟 Where to Stay
Online suggestions say to stay near Central Street, I personally think anywhere within 3-4km of Central Street is fine, Central Street itself is too expensive, you can save 1/3 outside, after all, taking a taxi is not expensive

Harbin, it even makes me, a local, feel like a stranger! Here's a guide
15 days ago, I just came back from Harbin, and it has changed so much that I can hardly recognize it~ The locals in Harbin now feel as neglected as the eldest child in a family with a new baby. Recently, Harbin has introduced hot air balloons, hovercrafts, the Oroqen people's reindeer, symphony orchestras, and 185 sports programs, all of which are almost unheard of to someone like me who has lived in Heilongjiang for over 20 years. The city has transformed from the familiar Bin I knew to a new Erbin.~ ~

~This is the Erbin guide I know, for your reference only📝📝~ ~

❄️【Winter Clothing Recommendations for Harbin】
Be sure to wear enough warm clothes, such as thick down jackets, thick sweaters, cotton pants, ear covers, hats, masks, scarves, hand warmers, etc. Especially for friends from the south, don't overestimate your ability to withstand the cold😄
HARMONY MOSS
I've been to Harbin and Snow Village, and here are some honest words
✅Clothing
Head: Hat + Ear Covers + Mask
Upper body: Down jacket + Thick sweater + Thermal underwear + Gloves + Scarf
Lower body: Thick pants + Thermal pants + Thick socks + Snow boots
✅Accommodation: Atour Hotel on Friendship Road, Central Street, Harbin
1. The hotel is right by the Songhua River, you can take a walk by the river; it's 2 kilometers away from Central Street, half an hour's walk, the location is very convenient
2. The high floors of the hotel can directly see the night view and sunset of the Songhua River
3. Breakfast is served until 10:30, very sincere; Atour fans all know that Atour's breakfast is very rich, and it will change according to each city, this Atour breakfast even has silkworm pupae, which is quite amazing haha
4. Atour members can delay check-out until 16:00 in the afternoon, which is convenient for going straight to Snow Village Yabuli after strolling around Harbin
✅Itinerary
1️⃣DAY1: Harbin→Central Street→Saint Sophia Cathedral→Songhua River→Ice and Snow World
📍Central Street: A street for food and shopping, 1450 meters long, built in 1900, the buildings along the street are all Baroque style, very beautiful; here I ate Lao Chang spring rolls and Madieer popsicles (5 yuan, basically one per person, super delicious)
📍Saint Sophia Cathedral: Very historical, grand and solemn in appearance, the decorations and pictures inside are extremely exquisite, the ticket is 35 yuan
📍Songhua River: The frozen Songhua River is too cool, people can walk on it, and there are some entertainment projects, such as dog sledding (I feel so sorry for the dogs, it's heartbreaking)
📍Ice and Snow World: Highly recommended, beautiful day and night! All the buildings are made of ice and snow sculptures, it's super cold inside, be sure to wear a couple more pairs of socks
2️⃣DAY2: Harbin→Yabuli Ski Resort
It's 230 kilometers from Harbin to Yabuli, a 3-hour drive; I was super excited to see such a high ski resort for the first time, the tracks are divided into advanced, intermediate, and beginner, for me who is skiing for the first time, I can only go to the beginner's track, if you are particularly interested in skiing, you can also hire a coach, skiing for 3 hours (including snow shoes, ski poles, snowboard)
3️⃣DAY3: Yabuli Ski Resort→Ya Snow Post Station→Big Bald Mountain→Ice and Snow Gallery→Snow Village
📍Ya Snow Post Station: There are plank roads, forest wildlife park, bandit nest Weihu Village; the package ticket is 168 yuan
📍Ice and Snow Gallery: There is a forest nature trail suitable for tourists to walk, and there is also a Northeast Wildlife Park to visit (bears, dogs, deer, wild boars, etc.)
📍Snow Village: No one can escape the beauty of Snow Village!! Snow Village is not big, but the mushroom houses covered by snow are just too beautiful
PS: There is currently a round-trip direct bus from Harbin to Snow Village, 120 yuan/person

I signed up for a Harbin tour with a friend, unexpectedly
I went to Harbin with a friend and played solidly for a week. It was so cold, but it was really beautiful. I have compiled some of my personal travel experiences for your reference.
Travel Equipment
Prepare a set of thermal underwear, thin velvet base long sleeves for outer wear, knee cotton pants, windproof and waterproof trousers, down jacket, wool sweater or high collar sweater, down jacket, snow boots, disposable slippers, sunglasses, scarf hat, ear muffs, plush gloves, lip balm, moisturizing and hydrating, masks, etc., power bank, warm baby, self-heating shoe pad, chocolate snacks, etc.
Food Recommendations
Sweet and sour pork, spicy hot pot, iron pot stew, rice bag, stuffed skin, sweet and sour pork loin, candied haws, three fresh ground, blood sausage, northern tofu brain, etc.
The food in the Northeast is really a lot and the taste is very nice. The portion size there is really generous. Don't order too many portions at once. Wait for the dishes to come up. If it's not enough, order again. Refuse to waste.
My Travel Route
D1 Landing in Harbin (if you arrive early, you can go out to the Saint Sophia Cathedral, Central Street, Songhua River Railway Bridge)
D2 Harbin-Yabuli Town (we experienced dog sledding, went to Yabuli Panda Pavilion to see pandas)
D3 Yabuli-Snow Town-Erdaobaihe (experienced snowfield hiking, strolled around the Northeast Market on Snow Charm Street, ate Northeast candied haws (super delicious, there are many kinds), also went to experience skiing and snowmobiling, visited the Ten Mile Gallery, twisted the Northeast Yangko in the afternoon, and finally participated in the bonfire party and set off fireworks)
D4 Changbai Mountain-Changbai Waterfall-Xiaotianchi (very lucky to see Tianchi, ate hot spring boiled eggs, soaked in hot springs to experience what is called ice and fire)
D5 Changbai Mountain-Changchun
【Closing Pit Suggestions】
1. Goggles: can be used when skiing, other times wear sunglasses, see if there are rental goggles, it is not cost-effective to buy one specially, if you don't ski often, you don't need to buy one specially
2. Coat: can be rented at the foot of the mountain, depending on personal physique, if you are afraid of cold, sisters are advised to rent one (generally 50-100, need 100 deposit) I saw that there are also down jackets for rent, you can also rent, so you won't have the situation of buying one specially and then wearing it once and always staying in the closet
3. It is best to carry a water cup with you, the Northeast is very dry, drink more water, and also put a cup of water in front of the bed at night.
About Group Tours
I still think it's possible to join a group, the road conditions are all snowy mountain roads, very technical. The group includes hotel + tickets + business car + aerial photography, so my friend and I chartered a car, and did not encounter invisible compulsory consumption. As for accommodation, we stayed in a four-star hotel, and the team leader would not urge us to set off very early, and the most touching point is that you can tell the master to stop at any time on the road if you encounter a place you want to go, get off the car and play enough before going to the next place, the whole is very free.
This time the Harbin small group really found the right one!! If you also want to join a group tour, be sure to look carefully and keep your eyes open, don't sign up for those low-price shopping groups!

Things you must do in Harbin
1. Play in Harbin Ice and Snow World
It is suggested to enter the park at 11 a.m. The Ice and Snow World during the day, although without the colorful lights, is super good-looking when people take photos. There are not many tourists at this time, the temperature is relatively mild, and the sun is strongest around 12 o'clock, you can take pictures of the 'pure white' tone of the ice and snow, the crystal clear ice and snow is particularly beautiful.
Then go to the Ferris wheel, which needs to be booked in advance, you can see the whole view of the Ice and Snow World.
Then go to the big slide, this is a must-check-in item, usually there is a long queue, you also need to make a reservation. It is recommended to buy a sliding pad to avoid sticking to the pants and not being able to slide down.
There are performances every hour after five o'clock in the evening. The DJ leads everyone to bounce with the rabbit, and the interactive experience is full.
If you want to eat delicious food, I think you must try the Qiu Lin Li Dao Si sausage. When queuing for the big slide, looking at the sausage dishes on the advertisement, I didn't expect Qiu Lin Li Dao Si sausage to be named after the Ice and Snow World.
2. Saint Sophia Cathedral
This is a popular check-in point. For a child growing up in the south, it is really special to take pictures of the church in the snow!
It's really a rush to take pictures here, and the photos taken are also very exotic.
3. Central Street
Not far from the Saint Sophia Cathedral. You can walk there.
It feels like a European street when taking pictures here.
In addition, of course you have to buy souvenirs when you go out, it's good to buy them here.
Here I found the store of Qiu Lin Li Dao Si again. I have tasted the sausage of Qiu Lin Li Dao Si in the Ice and Snow World before, and the taste is really good! Pure meat, full of meaty texture when you bite down. I particularly like their garlic smoked flavor.
Their family is an old enterprise with a history of 123 years, and it is the aristocrat of sausages. As a souvenir, it is most representative. Everyone says that Qiu Lin Li Dao Si sausage is a must-eat in Harbin, a must-bring specialty when leaving Harbin. It's also good to give it to others when you go back, you must bring some back home.

Everyone is welcome to bring their stamp cards to Saint Sophia Cathedral for a unique experience. The old buildings in Harbin have an exotic charm and are full of history and culture! The scenery inside and outside the church is worth visiting and taking pictures of.

Saint Sophia Cathedral was originally built for the Fourth Infantry Division of the Russian East Siberia during the construction of the Middle East Railway. In the same year, Russian tea merchant I.F. Chizhikov funded the reconstruction of a wooden church based on the military church. In 1911, a brick wall was built outside the wooden wall, forming a brick-wood structure church.
On September 27, 1923, Saint Sophia Cathedral was rebuilt for the second time. It took 9 years and was completed on November 25, 1932, becoming the largest Orthodox church in the Far East. The Sophia Church was designed by Russian architect Koyasikov. It is magnificent, elegant and extraordinary, with a total height of 53.25 meters, a building area of 721 square meters, and can accommodate 2000 people. The top of the main entrance is a bell tower. The seven copper bells are exactly seven notes. They need to be played by trained bell ringers to produce the ups and downs of the bell sound. The church building is arranged in the form of a Greek cross, which is influenced by Byzantine architectural style. The main dome and bell tower also have the traditional Russian 'tent top' and 'onion head' shape.
In 1986, the Harbin Municipal People's Government listed it as a first-class protected building. In November 1996, it was listed as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. From June 2 to September 2, 1997, the Harbin Municipal People's Government carried out a comprehensive renovation of the church according to the original design, expanded the Sophia Square by 7000 square meters, and opened it as the Harbin Architectural Art Museum to promote and carry forward the unique architectural culture of Harbin.
In 2000, the Harbin Municipal People's Government organized the expansion of the Harbin Architectural Art Square, the Central Leisure Square and the Urban Construction Planning Exhibition Hall construction project. It was completed and put into use on October 1 of the same year. The expanded Architectural Art Square has increased from 6000 square meters to 10000 square meters, and the Central Square covers an area of 36154 square meters.

Harbin | The snow scene of Saint Sophia Cathedral is really stunning
It's March now
Unexpectedly, it started to snow on the day I went to Saint Sophia Cathedral
Fulfilled the little wish of my southern parents to see snow
Compared to the usual photos
The atmosphere of the snow scene is really speechless😍
I, who was tired of seeing snow in Jia Village, was still amazed by the beauty❄️

📌Excellent photo props:
'Internet celebrity little bear donut coffee'
It's in the cake shop 'Bread Tasting Day' across the street from the cathedral
Because the donuts were sold out that day
I don't want to change to bagel
So I just chose the little bear cake
-
The interior of the cathedral is relatively old
Very historical and small
Different from the exquisite interior environment of famous churches in Europe and America
It has a different flavor
There is also a 🎶 live performance
It's up to personal preference whether to buy a ticket to take a look👀

I went to Harbin for a weekend, I must say it’s not like any other city that I’ve seen this for in China. Many building look old and desolated.
However I had tons of fun . The ice sculptures are amazing and so big .
I took the cable car to and from sun 🌞 island . (80 rmb both ways )
I ate tanghulu (candied Chinese fruit )🍓
walked the beautiful Zhongyang street (must buy sausage and chimney bread 🥖)

St Sophia Cathedral in Harbin
One more must visit place in Harbin. It’s located in downtown, on walking distance from the river bund (it will take at around 15 minutes on foot). Very beautiful church, architecture with carving decorations is impressive. We couldn’t get inside because it was closed, but the exterior appearance was great. Church is located on a wide square, so you can easily walk all around.

Awe Inspiring in Summer or Winter
Location: St. Sophia’s Cathedral Harbin, China
Experience: Awe Inspiring
On a hot summer day, sun scorching your shoulders, you see St. Sophia’s Cathedral and feel as though you’ve stepped out of China and into Moscow. A gleaming, green minaret reminds sight seers that China once was a very different place, Harbin was a multicultural hub of Jewish and Russian railroad tycoons. You walk into St.Sophia’s and are rejuvenated with a cool quietness. Once a holy place that didn’t survive Communism is still treated with respect. Locals use the altar as a musical stage. A classical singer sang arias and a saxophone player played Silent Night, a nod to the traditional religious purpose of the place. The walls, once boasting beautiful artistic motifs have fallen into a disrepair that does not detract from the beauty, but rather adds to the mystique of history and time.
Rest your feet and cool off. Fill yourself with the wonder of all of the historical events of the 20th century while you’re filled with the peace and serenity of classical music in a beautiful, holy place. #visitchina #summervacation #st.Sophia’s #awesomepic

St. Sophia Cathedal in Harbin - China 🇨🇳
Saint Sophia Cathedral is a popular landmark which you should visit if you are in Harbin.
The church is definitely nice to see from the outside and inside. It has Russian architecture.
The location is quite convenient as it is in the hearth of the city's down town.
This is a small scenic spot so it won't take you more than one hour to explore it completely.
The place is really well preserved and is a pleasure to see.
After the visit, you can also enjoy some shopping or nice food as there are many restaurants and shops around the area. Come early because its gets very crowded later in the day.

Sophia Cathedral in Harbin
The most well-known landmark in Harbin has to be the famous St Sophia Cathedral. This Byzantine style church is located on Zhaolin Street, and is just a block away from Central Street. You can take a subway to Central Street Station and walk for a block or two.
Originally, there was a wooden church built on this square at the beginning of the 20th century. But in 1923 a new stone church was built by the Russians. It was completed in 1932.
The cathedral is open from 08:30 to 17:00 and the entrance fee is a mere 15rmb. Unfortunately when I was there it was closed. Perhaps due to the spring festival. However, I still got to admire its beauty on the outside. I find it's especially beautiful at night.

Saint Sophia's Cathedral ~ Harbin 哈尔滨
📌
Located near the famous pedestrian street, it's a short walk if you choose a hotel near here.
哈尔滨市-道里区-透笼街88号-索菲亚广场
📸
To get inside the cathedral, it's 20yuan per person and you need to book by scanning the code outside. HOWEVER, only Chinese citizens with an ID card can purchase them so you will need to ask a friend to buy for you. Please note! It's not open on Mondays. Once you do get inside though, it's quite beautiful and amazing to see the walls in its original condition. A striking contract to the outside.
🏠
We stayed in a hotel called Huate Hotel (华特酒店) which was at the upper end of pedestrian street so took us about 30mins to walk here.
☕️
There is a cafe nearby however it is quite small and we ended up walking back out again and going to a Starbucks just across the road in a mall. There are a number of cafes around however most were closed due to the holidays.

Exploring St. Sophia Cathedral
St. Sophia Cathedral was a former Russian Orthodox Chrurch, which is now one of the famous monuments of Harbin.
The building is truly impressive with its high towers, golden finishings and vivid colors. The inside of the cathedral is a museum, where you can see some beautiful old paintings and the beautiful roof.
St. Sophia's Cathedral/ church is located in the city of Harbin, and can be reached via taxi. It is recommended to spend about 1 hour there. It is free to walk around the building and take photos, but it costs 20¥ to enter the church.
It is definitely worth a visit

St. Sophia Cathedral, Harbin
St. Sophia Church was built and completed of timber in March, 1907 as part of a plan to reconsolidate the confidence of the army by building an imposing spiritual symbol. The church is located on the corner of Toulong Street (Toulong jie) and Zhaolin Street. It stands at 175 ft tall, occupies an area of 721 square meters, and is the perfect example of Russian Revival architecture.
These photos were taken last year during New Year's Day. It was a good place to celebrate the holiday and to welcome the new year. It was freezing though. Well, Harbin is a good place to feel the Winter and the snow.
