He Art Museum | A Chilly Atmosphere Filled to the Brim | Shunde Travel
The He Art Museum (HEM) is located in Shunde, Foshan, Guangdong, and was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando. It has a total construction area of about 16,000 square meters, of which the exhibition area is about 8,000 square meters. The architectural concept of the He Art Museum deeply integrates the cultural elements of 'Heaven is round, Earth is square' from the Zhongyuan Zhengshuo culture. The main building is ingeniously composed of circular arcs and square geometric structures. The 'He' in the name of the He Art Museum means both 'harmony' and 'mixture,' emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of different elements, symbolizing the blend and collision of various art forms and styles.
Corresponding to the 'round' layered exterior design is the five-story atrium design with exposed concrete double helix staircases at its core. This five-story high void serves as the structural and conceptual center of the composition, visually and functionally connecting different levels through the alternating circulation paths of the double helix staircases.
I made a special trip to Shunde for this art museum
Rainy days are suitable for visiting art museums, letting the rain outside the museum drip.
The people who watch the exhibition are quiet and beautiful in their hearts.
Who can resist the artistic atmosphere of the art museum on a rainy day.
Cultivate one's sentiment and feel the quiet artistic oasis in the bustling city.
I heard that it's the third anniversary of Foshan Shunde and the Art Museum this year.
This trip to Guangdong is specifically to check in this art museum!
There will be a three-year anniversary during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday.
Art Fair, come and see again then👀
-
This art museum is indeed designed by Tadao Ando.
Aesthetic model of fair-faced concrete, space is beautiful into a painting.
Every corner has been carefully polished.
As soon as you enter, you feel a unique sense of seclusion and coldness.
The double helix staircase connects the 5-story space.
The glass skylight at the top.
Different light and shadow effects will occur as time goes by.
Cloudy and sunny days are two completely different flavors.
It's like the light and shadow plants are chasing the light in the museum.
You can truly feel the 'moment' quiet forest and leisurely lake.
-
The museum also exhibits Roni Horn's glass sculpture works.
It looks like a crystal clear water surface from a distance.
The light sprinkles on the glass surface to emit a moist light like water.
I also keep a distance from it at all times.
Afraid that a little carelessness will make it ripple.
Water is transparency stripped from the existence of all things.

🏟Roni Horn Art Exhibition: This exhibition explores themes such as nature and humans, gender, identity, and the relationship between subject and object through paintings, photography, installations, sculptures, and literary works🗿. The surface of each glass sculpture reminds me of the surface of water💧, but it is formed by glass weighing thousands of kilograms! The top polished by 🔥 is very smooth, the inside of the sculpture is transparent and bright, as if looking down at a pool of clear water💦. There are also some paintings and photographic works in the museum📸. The internal spiral staircase connects the spaces on each floor, linking all functional areas, and it's a great place to take photos.

Visiting the exhibition in Foshan, both the architecture and exhibitions of the He Art Museum are very impressive
This year marks the third anniversary of the opening of the He Art Museum.
I fell in love with it from its architecture at the beginning.
Then the different exhibitions,
I love to visit them all!
This immersive exhibition,
My favorite is the exhibition of Roni Horn,
Various glass installations,
Solid cast glass,
Frosted glass surface💜
Neither dream nor dream,
Existence is something that can be felt but not known,
Like clear water, the glass is transparent🔅
There are also records from Iceland,
Go discover, go feel☺️
It's quite wonderful,
The third anniversary also has a free art market called 'He•FUN'.
I'll come and visit again then😄

Shunde Museum of Art: The Ultimate of Light and Shadow, Circle and Spiral.
Tadao Ando's works in China are few and far between, the most familiar of which is the Poly Grand Theater in Shanghai. Occasionally passing by the "square box" by the water, the light and shadow change, but it never gets old.
So, other works by Tadao Ando were added to the destination wish list early on, and since we were in the Greater Bay Area, the Heyri Art Valley in Shunde and Ando's later works were not to be missed.
If you have a little understanding of Tadao Ando, you should know that from his famous work "Row House in Sumiyoshi" to the highly representative "Church of the Light" trilogy, there are few architects who can create complete original composite buildings with circular shapes, especially those with super large volumes. The geometric shapes of the Shanghai Poly Grand Theater are diverse, and the circular shape is only a small supporting role inside.
Therefore, the reason why this house and art museum are stunning is because Ando has finally broken through the past and consistently integrated the element of "circle". The highlight is the "dynamic column" at the center, the world's first double-helix concrete staircase, spiraling up like DNA, which proves that he has a further advanced understanding and expression of the "circle".
Like everyone who comes here, I also like to follow the spiral staircase to the ground floor, look up at the circular dome of the art museum, and see the beautiful curve of the double spiral staircase like a snail shell in front of me, which changes with the light and height. Ando's thorough understanding and manipulation of light can be seen.
This is an art museum that is enough to make people stay for a long time just by the venue itself. The traditional Chinese concept of "round sky and square earth" is combined with the characteristics of Lingnan traditional architecture. The five layers of the main building "round" overlap and interweave, and each layer is empty, extending outward like water ripples. This kind of challenge to tradition asymmetry brings dynamic and rhythm to the entire building.
Echoing the "circle" of the art museum, the circle of water outside the main building is also an eye-catching work. Only a narrow and straight path remains as a passage. In the pool, there is a silver tree, a masterpiece by American artist Roxy Paine. "It is dead, but full of vitality, and blends Eastern and Western art in the museum."
On the first floor of the art museum, you can take a look at Liu Ye's "Broadway Stories" and Zhang Enli's "Pastry Chef". You can also grab a cup of ARABICA from Heytea or walk further inside to see a painting of Zhou Chunya's "Green Dog" hanging in the corner. Zhou Chunya is currently the youngest and most expensive living artist on the Hurun Art List.
Strolling around, I suddenly remembered a sentence from my favorite architect Tadao Ando:
"Architecture is inevitably accompanied by light and shadow. So is life. There are difficult and cloudy days, but there will inevitably be bright days behind them."
Deeply agree.
