Day 2 (Morning) Helan Mountain National Forest Park
1
"To wear out the Helan Mountain passes," Yue Fei considered Helan Mountain as a symbol of his efforts to recover lost territories and reclaim the beautiful rivers and mountains; to geographers, Helan Mountain is part of the 200mm isohyet, marking the boundary between arid and semi-arid regions, as well as monsoon and non-monsoon areas; to the people of Ningxia, Helan Mountain is the paternal mountain that blocks the desert sands and forges the 'Jiangnan of the North'... Early on the second day, we set out westward, venturing into the vast Helan Mountain range.
My mother's hometown is in the Northeast. From the Northeast to the Northwest, the precipitation gradually decreases, and there is a significant change in vegetation. In the Northeast, lush forests cover almost all the high mountains and ridges, forming a spectacular scene of 'a mountain of flowers' when the leaves turn yellow in autumn; in North China (mainly referring to the Yan Mountains and Taihang Mountains), the lush forests are no more, giving way to lower shrubs; further to the Northwest, shrubs are first replaced by meadows, and then by the desert landscape seen in Helan Mountain.
The steep rock walls are mostly bare, with little vegetation, except for a few shrubs and some grass clinging to the ground, stubbornly rooting in the crevices of the barren soil, growing, bearing fruit, and proudly displaying the tenacity of life. Argali sheep can be seen from time to time, their fur color almost indistinguishable from the rock walls, a natural 'camouflage' granted by evolution that makes them—and of course other predators—hard to spot without careful observation. I wonder how they manage to find enough food, can the sparse grass and thorny shrubs on the mountain really satisfy the nutritional needs of their size? Regardless, these 'spirits of Helan Mountain' still roam the mountains today, becoming an indispensable part of Helan Mountain.
Is desolation not beautiful? 'The solitary smoke in the desert rises straight, the setting sun over the long river is round.' On the border of the desert, amidst the vast yellow sand, thousands of miles without a trace of humanity, isn't this desolation? The desert and the long river, the solitary smoke and the setting sun, are spectacular, and isn't that beautiful? When I enthusiastically took in the scenery of Helan Mountain by bus and then by cable car in the Helan Mountain National Forest Park, I gained a deeper understanding of the beauty of Helan Mountain—the beauty of the Northwest. If the beauty of the forests in the Northeast is a gentle 'gracefulness,' then the beauty of Helan Mountain is a rugged 'magnificence.' Looking up from below at the cliffs standing vertically as if cut by a knife and ax, gazing from above at the layers upon layers of bald peaks stretching for miles, one can't help but feel a temperament unique to the Northwest—vast, desolate, magnificent!

Ningxia Helan Mountain Suyukou National Forest Park
Helan Mountain Suyukou National Forest Park is located in the Helan Mountain National Nature Reserve, 50 kilometers northwest of Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The park covers a vast area, with a vegetation coverage rate of 70%, and has a rich natural landscape and unique cultural landscape. HARPER REEVES
When in Yinchuan, how can one miss visiting Helan Mountain
When in Yinchuan, how can one miss visiting Helan Mountain.
The Helan Mountain National Forest Park is just a ten-minute drive from Zhenbeibao Film Studio. I think it's one of the most worthwhile places to visit in Yinchuan.
Not just for the name Helan Mountain, which is closely connected to history, but also for the different high mountain landscapes, the special strata of address rocks, and the rock sheep running all over the place.
Yes, there are a lot of rock sheep, and they are very easy to spot.
Once you enter, the sightseeing car takes you deep into the mountains, where you can either climb by yourself or take the cable car. The cable car looks scary but is actually quite stable, and the scenery is also very good. After going up, it is recommended to climb to the Century Tower. On the way to Rabbit Hole, there is a lookout point where you can see some very peculiar rocks. Rabbit Hole itself is not much to see, and you can skip it.
The scenery can be described as magnificent, with a touch of desolation. There are also small animals, suitable for climbing or taking a walk with children.

The desolation that is barren in the eyes of others is the home I think about day and night
How can you miss "Helan Mountain" when you come to Yinchuan
Not for anything else, just the name of Helan Mountain that is closely connected with history, it is worth a visit.
Besides, you can see different mountain landscapes, special address rock layers, and rock sheep running all over the ground.
Helan Mountain is the boundary mountain between the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,
It used to be the natural barrier of the Central Plains dynasty, blocking the invasion of the northwestern nomadic tribes.
In ancient times, northern minorities such as the Huns, Xianbei, Turks, Uighurs, Tibetans, Dangxiang, etc. grazed and hunted here, multiplied and thrived, and it is still a multi-ethnic mixed living area for Han, Hui, Mongolian, Manchu, etc.
Helan Mountain is majestic and desolate, the rock sheep with protective colors all over their bodies are agile, their bodies are strong, their vitality is vigorous, under the second level of protection, the rock sheep are all over the mountains and can be seen everywhere‼️

✅Helan Mountain Ba Si Kou Twin Towers Scenic Area opens:
Open from February 13, 2024:
Opening hours: 9:30 to 17:30
Tickets🎫: Free
Ba Si Kou Twin Towers is about 50 kilometers away from the city of Yinchuan. It is the most complete preserved Xixia Buddhist pagoda in China. It has a history of about 1,000 years and is a rare art treasure in the history of Chinese Buddhist pagoda architecture.
10 kilometers west of Ba Si Kou, in the Ba Si Kou Gully, there used to be a four-sided thirteen-story square tower. In 1991, the Ningxia Archaeological Department organized experts to clean up the ruins of the Ba Si Kou square tower. A large number of small mud towers, small mud Buddhas and dozens of precious cultural relics such as Xixia and Han Buddhist scriptures and documents were unearthed. Especially the Xixia Buddhist scriptures "Jixiang Bian Zhi Kou He Ben Xu" that were unearthed caused a sensation at the time. This sutra is the only printed butterfly-bound Xixia Buddhist sutra in China. It is the earliest wooden movable type printed object discovered in the world so far. The discovery of this cultural relic has advanced the invention and use of wooden movable type in our country by nearly a hundred years, that is, from the traditional Yuan to the Xixia, thus ending the history of our country in the Song Dynasty only having movable type printing records but no physical evidence, and strongly proving that one of our country's "Four Great Inventions" "Movable type printing" originated from the fact of the Song Dynasty in China.

How can you not go to Helan Mountain when you come to Yinchuan?
Helan Mountain National Forest Park is a ten-minute drive from Zhenbeibao Film City. I think it's one of the most worthwhile places to go in Yinchuan.
In Helan Mountain, you can see different alpine landscapes, special address rock layers, and rock sheep running all over the ground. There are a lot of rock sheep, and they are easy to see.
The sightseeing car at the entrance pulls into the deep mountains, you can climb by yourself or take the cable car. The cable car looks scary but it's actually quite stable, and the scenery is also quite good.
After going up, it is recommended to climb to the Century Tower.
As for the Rabbit Pit, there is a lookout point on the road where you can see very peculiar rocks. The Rabbit Pit itself is not worth seeing, you can skip it.
The scenery can be described as magnificent, with a bit of desolation, and small animals.
🚉Traffic strategy:
I took a taxi from the city, the one-way trip is about 100 yuan, tickets + bus can be booked online (75 yuan); you can also book a bus + ticket on the travel unicorn, but there is only one.
📝Note tips:
1. The route we took is 5-6 kilometers in total, with a certain climb (descent), the highest altitude is about 2300, if you bring children, it is recommended to be cautious, if you climb the mountain, it is recommended to bring a climbing stick. The time consumed at that time was 2.5 hours. If you are a pure tourist, you can add some time to estimate.
2. There is also a cliff plank road next to the parking lot that is completely independent of the above mainstream route, about 2.8 kilometers, and return the same way. We didn't go at the time.
3. You can replenish supplies at two places, the parking lot and Qingsong Ridge, and there are basically none elsewhere. Because there are fewer people walking to Cherry Valley, so you have to wait a few times for the bus here, it's better to sit in the bus parking lot.

On a clear morning, a drone travels to Helan Mountain
The uphill journey takes at least an hour and a half and is quite steep, so if you're carrying a lot of weight, it's strongly recommended to take the cable car round trip. The sunlight around 8 a.m. can capture the oblique shadows of the mountains, and the drone can take off from the parking lot with relatively stable signals

You've seen the Helan Mountain in Inner Mongolia that most people can't see!!!
You've seen the Helan Mountain in Inner Mongolia that most people can't see!!!
Helan Mountain National Forest Park can be accessed from Yinchuan, Ningxia, or Inner Mongolia. However, it's difficult for most people to enter the national nature reserve in Inner Mongolia, let alone drive there. I was fortunate to follow the local reserve management bureau into the Helan Mountain reserve during my research period, where I saw many bharals and experienced the desolate and magnificent scenery of Helan Mountain.
During my research in Inner Mongolia, I always saw the distant Helan Mountain, with sparse vegetation and magnificent winding. It was only when I entered the reserve that I found the vegetation on the mountain range gradually becoming lush, gradually recovering under human intervention, and everywhere were traces of the survival of wild birds, bharals, and deer herds.
That day was overcast. As I was leaving, I saw the horses and cattle of the herders outside the reserve, leisurely and freely, like a Chinese ink landscape painting, which further made me believe in the possibility of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
