I've visited countless ancient towns, but I'm still captivated by Heshun Ancient Town for the 100th time
I came to Tengchong during the ginkgo season, but what I'm most eager to do is to take a walk in Heshun Ancient Town.
Because I grew up in the water town of Wuzhen and have been to various ancient towns, cities, and villages, my immunity to ancient towns is really strong.
But Heshun is the most special one.
The rice fields here are not props for photo ops,
The old streets and alleys here have real life,
The people here never cater to tourists,
This ancient town on the border, listed in National Geographic,
Is not suitable for tourism, but for living.

The old man with a hunched back,
Heshun at this time is incredibly beautiful.
.

Coated tofu, potatoes, small melons and various mushrooms,
Are the specialties of Yunnan.
Around the hot pot, the sound of food is especially healing.
.

Vegetables, fruits and flowers are lined up along the street,
The steam in the breakfast shop is full of people,
Thin bean flour, bait silk must have a share,
This is the morning unique to Heshun.
.
⏰Morning
📍Heshun Library
After experiencing the hustle and bustle of Heshun,
Come and feel the quietness of this rural library,

Secret sauce + first make roll powder,
I haven't eaten it since I left Heshun.

More niche than Dali, quieter than Lijiang.
Tengchong is comfortable all year round, and winter is no exception.

Heshun Ancient Town: A Poetic Time in the Sunset Glow
On this peaceful Sunday, June 23, 2024, I encountered the picturesque sunset glow of Heshun Ancient Town.
As the sun sets, the afterglow, like a magical painter, uses the most delicate strokes and the most splendid colors to freely splash across the boundless canvas of the sky. Shades of orange-red, golden yellow, and dark purple intertwine, dreamlike and fantastical, shrouding Heshun Ancient Town in a mysterious and warm radiance.
The ancient streets, bathed in the glow of the sunset, seem to be frozen in time. The bluestone paths emit a faint golden light, making the traces of the years particularly clear at this moment. The old houses along the street are scattered in an orderly fashion, with their flying eaves and upturned corners sketching out graceful contours, echoing the sunset on the horizon.
The sunset glow of Heshun Ancient Town is a visual feast bestowed by nature, and a gentle solace deep in the heart. It made me forget the hustle and bustle of the mundane world and immerse myself in this peaceful and beautiful time. I wish this splendid sunset glow will forever stay in my memory, becoming an eternal warmth and beauty in my heart.

The landlady helped carry our 🧳 luggage upstairs, the three of us chose a family room and stayed for three nights, the room was very clean and spacious, right in front of the morning market of the town, you can go out for a local specialty breakfast of thin bean powder, the homestay is located in the center of the ancient town
Yuan Shan Dai Photography: Taking photos📸 was a spontaneous discovery while wandering around the alleys, we found a portrait studio and it was love at first sight💗, it wasn't originally planned in our itinerary, we made an appointment for six o'clock with Cun Daguan!! For the sake of life photos, we immediately booked makeup and shooting in the ancient town➕wheat field, the photos turned out amazing, the freedom in the wheat field, I felt like I was a Yi person in my previous life, the photographer was very careful in guiding the poses, and after shooting, they immediately gave us the negatives🎞️, retouched within three days, basically, the original photos were good enough!
Day 2 Join a one-day tour (transfer➕ticket➕free time in the scenic area)
The driver who picked us up was very enthusiastic, we booked the ticket on the app, you can check it out, although the attractions are not much, but since we're here, it's a pity not to take a look!!

Ancient Town
Heshun Ancient Town
Heshun Ancient Town in Yunnan is rated by 'China National Geography' as a 'must-visit place in one's lifetime'.
Staying in a homestay in the ancient town is very quiet, unlike the commercialization of Dali Ancient Town. According to the homestay owner, it's because strict regulations prevent commercialization, and local residents just set up small stalls in front of their homes. I went to a small restaurant, and every time I passed by, I saw that it was crowded with people. I wondered why, during the off-season when almost no other restaurants had customers, this one was always bustling. After dining there once, I was indeed shocked by the warmth and kindness of the owner and staff. The ancient town is situated at the foot of a mountain, so the ancient trees in the town are also lush and verdant. Perhaps because of this, the sound of cicadas here is really loud; back in my hometown, they would probably be considered the king of cicadas!

A leisurely summer day trip guide to Heshun Ancient Town
Heshun Ancient Town has a history of over 600 years, built by the mountains and water, surrounded by volcanoes, with a basin in the middle, and is a cultural tourism town on the ancient Southwest Silk Road.
There are more than 100 Qing Dynasty mansions, temples, Taoist temples, ancestral halls, and residences in Heshun Ancient Town. The architecture is a blend of Chinese and Western styles, featuring Huizhou architecture, Western styles, and Southeast Asian charm.
🌸 Ancestral Hall
The ancestors of Heshun Ancient Town were mostly Central Plains immigrants who were ordered to relocate during the military colony system of the Ming Dynasty. Therefore, although it is close to the China-Myanmar border, the culture of Han-style ancestral halls is a major attraction. By the Qing Dynasty, there were already ancestral halls of eight major families.
Among them, the Cun family's ancestral hall is the earliest built, dating back to the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. Although it represents Han culture, the main gate is composed of three European-style round arch doors and a Southeast Asian-style door header. It is the best representative of the integration of Han culture with Southeast Asian and Western cultures in the ancient town.
🌸 Shuanghong Bridge
The old bridge is said to have been built by the Cun family, the local deity, at the beginning of the Ming Jiajing period and was rebuilt during the Qing Guangxu period; the new bridge was built in 1921. The two bridges are named for resembling double rainbows lying on the river surface.
🌸 Heshun Library
On the other side of the old bridge is the Heshun Library, established in 1928. Its predecessor was the Xinxin Society organized by Cun Fuching of the Tongmenghui at the end of the Qing Dynasty, which was later expanded into a library by overseas Chinese from Burma. Heshun Ancient Town is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, with a permanent population of over 7,000 people, but there are more than 30,000 overseas Chinese. Therefore, the library has a rich collection of donated literature and inscriptions from cultural figures such as Hu Shi. Heshun Library is the largest library in rural China and is also an important national cultural preservation unit.
🌸 Heshun Alley
A district composed of nearly 10,000 square meters of ancient buildings, located by the Sanhe River. It includes the old residence of Zhang Songlin, the late Qing general of Tengyue, the Horse Caravan Museum, Heshun Wetland, and other attractions.
🌸 Thousand-Hand Guanyin Ancient Tree Group
Composed of seven hundred-year-old camphor trees on Zhangjia Slope in Heshun, five of which are in a row. The tree crowns are towering and cover the sky like huge umbrellas. The trunks resemble the Thousand-Hand Guanyin stretching out in all directions, very beautiful.
🌸 Zhongtian Temple
Along the main axis of the ancient town of Heshun, you can see Zhongtian Temple, which was built in the eighth year of the Ming Chongzhen period, from the top of the mountain. The most exquisite part is the eight-door screen of the imperial hall, which is delicately crafted.
The platform in front of Zhongtian Temple is one of the best spots to take a panoramic view of the ancient town.

Heshun Ancient Town
Heshun Ancient Town is located in Tengchung City, Yunnan Province. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. For over six hundred years, Central Plains culture, Western culture, Nanzhao culture, and border culture have blended and collided here, forming a unique culture of overseas Chinese and caravan culture, making Heshun one of the typical ecological culture villages in Yunnan Province. The 'Heshun Shunhe' archway in Heshun Ancient Town was built in 2001. It is a symbolic building of Heshun. The combination of 'He' and 'Shun' in any order is appealing and thought-provoking, ingeniously using the rhetorical device of palindrome to form the combination of 'Heshun Shunhe', which embodies the beautiful yearning for life and good wishes for people. The two characters 'Ren Li' on the back of the archway were written by Zhao Fan, a famous talent in modern Chinese history who once served as the governor of Tengyue. It means that Heshun is a town that values traditional culture and the morals of benevolence and righteousness. The Cun family is the largest family in Heshun Ancient Town, and the Cun family ancestral hall is also the earliest built. It was initiated by the then family leader Cun Guangyuan in 1805. Inside the ancestral hall, there are many exquisite wood carvings, stone carvings, and murals, displaying the superb skills of ancient craftsmen. Yuzhou Pavilion was built to commemorate Mr. Cun Shusheng, the first principal of Yiqun Middle School and former vice president of Yunnan University. Heshun Renjia is a century-old house that was relocated from another place. It was once the private library of Zhang Muxin, a modern merchant magnate in Tengchung and the founder of Hong Kong's Fudian Bank. Now, Heshun Renjia has been converted into a restaurant with a tranquil environment and a strong cultural atmosphere, making it an excellent place to experience Heshun culture and taste Heshun flavors. In 2024, Heshun Ancient Town Scenic Area became a 'National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction'.

Heshun: A Town of Charm
Heshun Ancient Town is located in the southwest of Tengchong, stretching for miles along the mountains and waters, with beautiful natural scenery and a layout of ancient buildings. For over six hundred years, Han culture has blended with the culture of border minorities and exotic cultures here, forming the Heshun culture centered on 'harmony and smoothness,' known as the 'living ancient town.' It has been honored with titles such as 'China's Most Charming Famous Town,' 'Third Batch of China's Historical and Cultural Famous Towns,' 'National Civilized Village,' and 'Characteristic Town of Yunnan Province.' The majority of Heshun Ancient Town's Han residents are descendants of people from Sichuan and Jiangnan who came to Yunnan to engage in military and civilian farming in the early Ming Dynasty. Stepping into Heshun Ancient Town is like being in the water towns of Jiangnan, with clear water winding around the village, shaded by green trees, and ancient and elegant buildings built along the water, full of the charm of Jiangnan water towns. Heshun Library in the town is one of the largest rural libraries in China. In 1924, the 'Heshun Reading Society' was established. With the strong support of overseas Chinese, in 1928, the 'Heshun Reading Society' was expanded into a library. The Dewey Decimal Classification system from the United States was adopted for cataloging and managing the collection, and the library was moved to its current location. The plaque for 'Heshun Library' was written by Mr. Zhang Li, a local scholar, and hung up. The Heshun Library is a traditional Chinese building with a front garden, elegant and beautiful. The library houses over ten thousand books, among which many ancient books are especially precious. In June 2006, it was announced by the State Council as a 'National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.'

Peace and Harmony
Heshun Ancient Town is located in the southwestern part of Tengchong City, Yunnan Province. It is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan, where the culture of the hometown of overseas Chinese and the culture of the caravan blend together, making Heshun one of the four typical ecological and cultural villages in Yunnan Province. On October 23, 2006, the Heshun scenic area was rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. In 2024, the Heshun Ancient Town scenic area became a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction. There is a newly renovated mosque in Heshun Ancient Town. The residents of Heshun are mainly Han Chinese, with the Hui minority being small in number and scattered in residence. The mosque is the only place for the collective activities of the Hui people. The cover of this notebook features the Shuanghong Bridge, the old bridge was originally built in the early years of the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It is said to have been built by the efforts of the local deity Inch Jade. It was rebuilt in the tenth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The new Shuanghong Bridge was built in 1921. The two bridges resemble double rainbows lying on the waves, hence the name Shuanghong Bridge. The bridges are exquisitely crafted, with green willows by the bridge, red lotuses reflecting the sun, ducks and geese playing in the water, and fish swimming in the shallow bottom, presenting a peaceful and beautiful scenery reminiscent of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River. The alleys of Heshun Ancient Town have a rich cultural heritage, and the restaurants in the town mostly serve hot pot. The central primary school of Heshun Ancient Town is located in the Shizi Road community of Heshun Ancient Town. It was founded in 1908 during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. After nearly a hundred years of running the school in the ancestral hall, it was not until August 2000 that the school moved into the new campus of the central school today, with the school motto being 'Education as the foundation, and striving for success as the goal'. Peace and harmony give Heshun a peaceful and auspicious meaning.

And you can stroll around the ancient town in the morning and evening, and plan to visit other scenic spots in Tengchong during the day, saving time. (The ancient town is most beautiful in the morning and evening, it's too hot at noon and in the afternoon)
✅Recommended attractions

Heshun Ancient Town in Tengchong
Tengchong's Heshun Ancient Town, located 3 kilometers southwest of Tengchong city in Yunnan Province, is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. Historical records show that Heshun was originally called 'Yang Wen Tun', and because a small river flowed through the town, it began to be called 'He Shun Xiang' during the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty. Later, it was renamed 'Heshun Xiang', implying harmony and smoothness. The ancestors of Heshun, during the Hongwu period of the Ming dynasty, were ordered to cultivate and garrison the border from places such as Sichuan, Nanjing, and Huguang. They have thrived here for six hundred years.
For over six hundred years, the Central Plains culture, Western culture, Nanzhao culture, and frontier culture have blended and collided here, forming a unique culture of overseas Chinese and the culture of the horse caravan.
Heshun Ancient Town is surrounded by volcanoes on all sides, with one volcano in each of the southeast, northwest directions, and a horseshoe-shaped basin in the middle. The highest elevation within the town is 2091 meters, and the lowest is 1490 meters.
Heshun Ancient Town is built along the mountains and water, stretching for miles, with settlements including temples, Taoist temples, ancestral halls, and numerous alleys.
Wan Lou Zi is named for the curved construction of the buildings along the winding alleys, and the locals vividly call it Wan Lou Zi. Wan Lou Zi's residential buildings are a courtyard complex consisting of three sections and three rooms with a screen wall, now converted into a 'Residential Museum'.

The ancient towns that have been rated by 'National Geographic' as must-visit in a lifetime are truly exceptional
🎐 Among the many ancient towns, Heshun stands out with its low profile and simplicity. This ancient town on the edge of Yunnan has a history of over six hundred years. Compared to the bustle of Dali and the commercial atmosphere of Lijiang, Heshun is more peaceful and pure. The pace of life here follows the sun; people work at sunrise and rest at sunset, without the noisy nightlife found in other ancient towns, but rather carrying the traces of life from generation to generation. Such a place is very suitable for long-term residence, and has even been rated by 'National Geographic' as a 'must-visit ancient town in a lifetime'. If you visit Yunnan, don't miss this treasure-like ancient town.
Ten years ago, the TV series 'Beijing Love Story' brought Heshun into the public eye. As the plot faded, the slow life and tranquil charm of Heshun remained in memory. Time flies, and today, ten years later, Heshun still maintains its leisurely pace. Every morning and evening is a profound reflection on life. The morning market on the century-old vegetable street, the elderly men and women on the stone-paved roads, the sunset from the inn's terrace, each is simple and healing, making it feel as if time stands still here...
🍜 Local delicacies not to be missed:
✅ Rare bean jelly (both Inch-sized Auntie and Yang-sized Auntie's rare bean jelly are good)
✅ Tengchong rolled rice noodles (similar to Chaozhou rice noodle rolls, Inch-sized rolled rice noodles are very cost-effective)
✅ Lemon rice-flower fish (Mom's flavor, the set meal is super cost-effective)
✅ Da Jiu Jia (actually stir-fried bait blocks)
✅ Pine flower cake (small pastries made from pine flower powder and red beans)
✅ Clay pot
✅ Ginkgo stewed chicken
✅ Zongbao stir-fried meat
✅ Copper ladle beef
✅ Heshun brain
✅ Fire-roasted meat rice noodles
✅ Bait silk and rice cold noodles

📌Little tips;
Although Heshun is not large, there are many sightseeing spots. If time is tight, there is no need to insist on checking in at every spot. Following this route, you can experience the essence of the ancient town. It is more suitable for slow travel here, to feel the long years, rather than rushing through. If possible, stay at least one night to deeply experience the charm of the ancient town.

Tengchong in April and May is so worth the rush! Fewer people, beautiful scenery, and it's affordable
Yunnan is truly a heaven-sent tourist destination, with different landscapes and festivals throughout the seasons. The Water-Splashing Festival of the Dai ethnic group is just around the corner, and many friends are heading to Xishuangbanna or Mangshi to enjoy the fun. However, these places are bound to be packed with people. As a guide in Yunnan for 14 years, I recommend Tengchong, a place where you can experience the Water-Splashing Festival with fewer people and beautiful scenery.
-
Tengchong is not far from Mangshi and Ruili, so you can visit Tengchong while experiencing the Water-Splashing Festival. Here are a few Tengchong attractions worth visiting this season.
-
1️⃣ Gaoligong Mountain Trekking
Spring is the perfect season for trekking and enjoying the outdoors. During this time, the wild giant rhododendrons of Gaoligong Mountain are in bloom, and the vegetation is thriving. Venture deep into the forest and get up close with the 'world's species gene bank'.
⚠️ There are many trekking routes on Gaoligong Mountain, so choose official routes and channels. For detailed strategies, refer to other notes.
-
2️⃣ Dadi Tea Sea
A restaurant built on a tea mountain, with lush green tea gardens and thatched cottages, looks beautiful from every angle. Now is the tea-picking season, and you can pick and process your own tea.
-
3️⃣ Beihai Wetland
The iris flowers are blooming in Beihai Wetland this season, adding a touch of spring. Take a bamboo raft or grass boat and experience the feeling of being in a painting.
-
4️⃣ Volcanic Geopark
Many people go to the Volcanic Geopark to ride hot air balloons. In addition to hot air balloons, you can also see a special tree—the Goose Feather Tree. At the entrance of the volcanic park, it has a history of over 600 years. Every April, it sheds fluff like catkins, resembling goose feathers. It's the only one of its kind in Yunnan, so it's quite special.
-
🏠【Accommodation Recommendation】
During the off-season, I recommend staying inside or near Heshun Ancient Town for affordable prices. You can leisurely stroll through the ancient town and it's convenient to visit the morning market.
-
Now is not the rainy season in Yunnan, the temperature is pleasant, and the overall feeling is very comfortable. For an average of 2000+ RMB, you can stay in a guesthouse with a private hot spring in the ancient town and play for 4 nights and 5 days. Hurry up and invite your friends to Tengchong! Spring Trip to Yunnan | One-Day Walking Tour Guide in Heshun Ancient Town
🎐Heshun Ancient Town
When you come to this secluded town with more than 600 years of history in Yunnan, you will find that it still maintains a simple style. Looking at the ancient streets and alleys of Heshun, everything is so peaceful and harmonious, and every glance is healing.
The ancient town of Heshun, nestled against the mountains and by the water, is most attractive to me because of its ancient houses❗️ The architectural style here is a blend of Chinese and Western, with the gracefulness of Huizhou architecture and the clarity of Western-style buildings. The buildings and streets in the town are filled with a rich historical atmosphere and cultural heritage, making one feel as if they are in an ancient time and space.

🚗Major Transportation:
✈️Tengchong Hump Airport (Baoshan High-speed Railway Station is relatively far)
To get to Heshun Ancient Town, you can take the airport shuttle or a taxi, with a journey of about 30 minutes
-
📷【My Check-in Recommendations】
❶The Eight Great Ancestral Halls are a must-visit, among which the Cun's Ancestral Hall is the earliest built and also has a typical Southeast Asian architectural style
❷The Laundry Pavilion, great for reflection shots, with buildings constructed against the mountain in the background.
❸The Curved Building Residential Museum, looking over from Wild Duck Lake, the layers of old residences reflected in the water are super beautiful❗️
❹This time I also discovered "Little Alley", below the library, where taking photos is especially photogenic📷
-
🍜Food Check-in:
Every time I come to Heshun Ancient Town, I always buy pine flower cakes from the grandma's stall❗️ It's beneficial for the body, and kids love it too, but it's quite dry so you need to drink more water haha.
-
🏨Accommodation Recommendation:
The homestays in the ancient town are also a highlight! Each one is full of local characteristics, as if you are living in a little story.
OPAL PITTMAN
Heshun Ancient Town, blue sky and white clouds, spring is warm and flowers are blooming
I miss the blue sky and white clouds.
Looking forward to the warm spring and blooming flowers.
Stepping on the stone steps, walking into the courtyard,
I thought I had arrived at a European-style small garden.
With garden plants taller than a person, I strolled through and entered the library.
I deeply feel that the people of Heshun are very fortunate to be able to read books in such a beautiful library.
What I enjoy the most is the newspaper section here.
All the tourists who come here can be borrowers for once.
For those who are tired from walking, this place is really nice.
Especially the wooden benches, which have a sense of the old times.
It instantly takes you back to the era of the elders.
The brown newspaper table + wooden bench, if you add an enamel cup, it would really make for a leisurely afternoon.
This place is originally a local library, and they can still come here to borrow books. The first floor is mainly the newspaper borrowing area, other floors are not open to tourists. I took a look at the newspapers here, there are recent ones as well as past ones, and there is also a manager present.
Related history: The predecessor of the Heshun Library was the 'Xian Xin She' organized by Cun Fucqing, a member of the Heshun Tongmenghui at the end of the Qing Dynasty. In 1924, the 'Reading Newspaper Society' was established and later expanded with donations, and the new library was built in 1938. To date, it has a collection of over 70,000 books, including more than 10,000 ancient and rare books, with inscriptions from many cultural giants such as Hu Shi and Xiong Qinglai, and is known as 'the best in the cultural circles of Chinese villages'.
Coordinates: No. 8 Shuishe Village, Sanshe (near the main entrance of Heshun Ancient Town, you can see it after crossing the bridge)
Transportation: Take a taxi to the main entrance of Heshun Ancient Town, there is only one road, follow it and the first attraction is right there.
Ticket: Included in the main ticket, but requires a second check.
Opening hours: 7:30-19:00
Recommended visiting time: 0.5-1 hour

Exquisite Tengchong
Heshun Ancient Town, Tengchong Ancient Town, is so worth a visit. Compared to other ancient towns, Tengchong is truly a gift from nature, with natural hot springs, barrier lakes, and a unique plateau climate that creates the stunning scenery of Tengchong. Clean and tidy, with stone-paved roads, rows of shops, and the origins of silverware and jade. The food is also down-to-earth and delicious 😋. It doesn't have the other ancient towns' starch sausages or junk snacks.
HALEY BATES
Heshun Ancient Town, a quiet and scholarly ancient town
I decided to visit Heshun Ancient Town in the morning. There is a shuttle from the hotel at 7:30 am. It's still early, and although there are guesthouses everywhere, all is quiet.
I found a guesthouse on Ctrip with a scary name, good location, and reasonable price—Junwang Ancient Mansion. They have rooms but the guests haven't checked out yet. I left my luggage and went out to explore.
There's a breakfast vendor in the alley by the entrance. A bowl of thin bean noodles and a fried dough stick made for a comfortable meal.
The first stop is the Heshun Library. This small town library is a first-class library, ranking higher than many city libraries.
There are many overseas Chinese and local gentry who invest in their hometowns, building ancestral halls and schools. But this is the first time I've seen one build a library. Visiting the Li, Liu, and Cun ancestral halls, I learned that these three prominent Heshun surnames all migrated from Sichuan.
I liked the Li ancestral hall the most. The entire building is unpainted. Natural wood color, simple, grand, and solemn. I also learned about catalpa wood. This type of wood has a fine texture, is resistant to decay, and does not attract insects. The old town is full of jade and southern red agate.
The cultural atmosphere is quite strong. There is an archway at every alley entrance. There are couplets at every door. The laundry area even has pavilions to shelter from wind and rain. This is Heshun's unique way of cherishing women.

Tengchong Travel Notes
I visited Tengchong in mid-January 2024
Stayed in Heshun Ancient Town. The entrance ticket was 55 yuan per person. Ticket checks are required when entering and moving around the town, but if you don't have your ticket, you can report your ID number to look up the purchase record. After 7:30 pm, taking a taxi back allows you to avoid the ticket check.
Stay: We stayed in the 'Colorful Clouds' room at Yifang Longtai Homestay, which offers a 270-degree panoramic view. The host was very warm-hearted and had turned on the bed's water heating before we arrived.
Clothing: During this season, Tengchong is quite cool in the morning and evening, but warm at noon. There's no need for short sleeves, but do bring sunscreen.
Transport: You can walk around Heshun Ancient Town, and taking a taxi to the scenic spots outside the town is not far. Driving in the town is inconvenient as it often requires navigating narrow roads.
Sights: In the morning, you can finish touring Heshun Ancient Town in half a day, where there's a morning market that you can visit with your ticket. You can also visit the Heshun Library.
In the afternoon, bring a swimsuit to the Rehai 'Big Rolling Pot'. You can buy tickets through the accommodation, which might be cheaper.
When in Tengchong, you must experience the hot springs. We chose Rehai because it's more authentic. Of course, there are also some five-star hotels with hot springs. Rehai is known for its sulfur hot springs, but there are also other types like carbonic acid springs. Other hotel hot springs mainly offer carbonic acid springs.
The next morning, we went to the Great Earth Tea Sea, but I must remind you that it's not the tea-picking season now, so there really isn't much to see or do. You might try it in early spring.
In the afternoon, we went to the Wetland Park, which is great for taking photos. I also tried a cup of Dendrobium drink.

Tengchong Heshun Ancient Town
Tengchong Heshun, meaning 'gentlemen harmonious and people obedient', is built along the mountains and born beside the water, ranking first among the top ten most charming ancient towns. During the Ming Dynasty, the southwest was pacified, and military farming and border defense were established here, hence the ancestors of the ancient town were mainly Han Chinese, and every corner prominently displays the traces of Central Plains culture, with the architecture revealing the charm of the Huizhou style.

MONROE PARRISH
A Complete Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Merrymaking in Heshun Ancient Town - One Article Is All You Need!
Before setting off, what fun things are there to do in Heshun? After arriving, it's truly delightful!
I've visited dozens of ancient towns, if not hundreds, but Heshun is the only one that made me exclaim, 'This is what a real ancient town is like!' It has the least commercial atmosphere and the most human touch, no wonder it's rated by 'National Geographic' as a must-visit ancient town.
Without further ado, here's a detailed 3-day, 2-night guide to Heshun Ancient Town for you to keep!
🚘Transportation:
From Dali to Tengchong, there's no high-speed train. It's recommended to use 'Dian Yue Travel', costing 168—188 yuan, with selectable seats, in a 9-passenger business van. It takes just 4 hours.
🎫Ticket: 55 yuan (valid for 7 days), if you don't want to visit the ancient town attractions, you can also choose to enter before 8 am or after 8 pm. I was quite resistant to this ticket before coming, but after touring around, I found that the ancient town is indeed large, and if you want to gain a deeper understanding of its history, it's worth buying a ticket.
🌺Attractions to Check In:
❶Crossroad Morning Market: A display of the human touch, with small vendors setting up stalls every morning, mainly selling vegetables, fruits, meats, snacks, and some daily necessities. Go early, as they pack up around noon.
Navigation: Heshun Shopping Center.
❷Heshun Alleys: Quiet and leisurely, great for taking photos by the river.
❸Zhongtian Temple: The highest point of the ancient town, offering a panoramic view.
❹Thousand-Hand Guanyin Ancient Tree Group: Consists of 7 towering century-old camphor trees, lush and intertwined, resembling the Thousand-Hand Guanyin from afar.
❺Wild Duck Lake: The lake is vast, and I was lucky to see egrets.
❻Shuanghong Bridge: Next to it, villagers wash clothes in the laundry; outside, there are wheat fields, and the rapeseed flowers are blooming this season.
❼Bailian Hot Springs: Booking online costs 230 yuan, but you can get a better deal if you ask the innkeeper to book for you. There are about 10 outdoor pools, in a nice setting.
🍝Food to Check In:
✔Cun's Rolled Rice Noodles: A must-try, truly delicious! 3 yuan
✔Grandma Yang's Thin Bean Powder: Made from ground soybeans, only served for breakfast, and even I, who am picky, finished a large bowl in one go. Eating it with deep-fried dough sticks is a unique experience.
✔Aunt Cun's Thin Bean Powder: Featured on CCTV, but I think Grandma Yang's is tastier.
✔Little Liu's Copper Ladle Beef: A large bowl full of beef, so good that two people can't finish it, 168 yuan.
✔Mom's Taste: Tasty and well-known, a restaurant that locals are aware of.
✔Fatty Barbecue: The best barbecue I've had in Yunnan, everything is delicious, though the prices are relatively high. It's truly remote, found by groping in the dark up the mountain at 11 pm.
✔Pine Flower Cake: With a faint scent of pine flower powder, topped with red beans, mildly sweet and not greasy.

📚Introduction: Heshun Ancient Town is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. For over six hundred years, Central Plains culture, Western culture, Nanzhao culture, and frontier culture have blended and collided here, forming a unique culture of overseas Chinese and caravan culture, making Heshun one of the four typical ecological and cultural villages in Yunnan Province.
Heshun Ancient Town is built along the mountains and by the water, stretching for miles, with temples, Taoist temples, ancestral halls, and numerous alleys, as well as more than 100 Qing Dynasty residences. The architecture is a blend of Chinese and Western styles, with the grace of Huizhou architecture and the clarity of Western architecture, as well as the charm of Southeast Asia. It is a 'National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction'.
⛩Attractions to Check Out:
1️⃣Heshun Shunhe Archway (Picture 3)
Chinese people like the words 'harmony' and 'smoothness', and no matter how they are combined, they are desirable and thought-provoking. Here, the palindrome rhetorical technique is cleverly used to form the combination of 'harmony and smoothness', expressing a beautiful yearning for life and good wishes for people. The words 'Ren Li' on the back of the archway were written by Zhao Fan, a famous talent in modern Chinese history who once served as the governor of Tengyue, meaning that Heshun is a town that values traditional culture and the ethics of benevolence and righteousness.
2️⃣Archway (Picture 4)
The archways in Heshun Ancient Town were built in the old times to commend meritorious service, scholarly achievements, virtuous governance, and loyalty and filial piety. The existing Heshun archways are divided into three categories: the Centenarian Archway, the Culture Archway, and the Loyalty and Filial Piety Archway. The 'Wenzhi Guangchang' archway at the old bridgehead of Shuanghong Bridge is a Culture Archway, and the 'Bingqing Yujie' archway at the new bridgehead of Shuanghong Bridge is a Loyalty and Filial Piety Archway.
3️⃣Heshun Library (Picture 5)
The Heshun Library was established in the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928) and is known as the largest rural library in China. It currently holds more than 110,000 volumes, including inscriptions by many cultural giants such as Hu Shi, Xiong Qinglai, and Li Shizeng.
4️⃣Shuanghong Bridge (Picture 6)
The two bridges resemble double rainbows lying on the waves, with exquisite shapes. The bridge is shaded by green willows and red lotuses reflecting the sun, with the sound of village women washing clothes incessantly; under the bridge, geese and ducks play in the water, and fish swim in the shallow bottom, presenting a peaceful and beautiful scenery of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River.
5️⃣Wenchang Palace (Picture 7)
The Wenchang Palace in Heshun was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty (1821~1850) and consists of the main hall, rear hall, Kuixing Pavilion, Zhuyi Pavilion, passageway, two wings, the main gate, and the large moon platform at the very front.

HeShun Ancient Town is built along the river, with the most characteristic laundry pavilion here. Geese and ducks play in the water, fish swim freely, trees on both sides are shaded, and flowers are like brocade.
