This is the Hikone castle situated in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture. It takes approximately an hour train ride from Kyoto station. Hikone is a small and quiet town, an off-beaten path. The castle can be reached within 15 minutes in foot. I really love the castle as the mascot is so cute and it does small performances too! The castle is three-storey tall and there is also a garden to explore~ There is also a mountain view to enjoy. I love it so much that I’ve visited twice! 😂
I wish that I can visit more castles in the future ~

With the recent news of Japan set to open up soon by October, there will soon be a lot who will be looking forward to visiting Japan soon. On our last Japan trip, we had mostly used the train, which is considered as one of the sustainable & eco-friendly ways of traveling around. Do you know that electric trains emit a lot less CO2 as compared to road & air travel? Traveling by train can be around 10 times less CO2 emissions as compared to traveling by air. Traveling by train is also more efficient as a lot more people can board a train than other public transportation such as buses & cars.
In addition to these, it's also more enjoyable as you can admire the scenery while the train brings you to the different cities. We had bought the JR West Pass & used the trains to go to Kyoto, Nara and Hikone, where we then walked quite a fair bit around the different attractions, temples, parks and Hikone Castle. With the cool spring weather, walking while taking in the beautiful scenery is recommended, and of course a much more eco-friendly way of travel too. Just make sure that you travel light and have a water bottle/reusable bottle.

The most significant and historical building and castle in the city of Hikone, Shiga, Japan. You walk up lots of stairs while you visit here. The museum was excellent and had a lot of English on signs and many beautiful artifacts and an Edo house on show here. Then up the stairs to the castle to join a small queue up ladder stairs to get to the top! Great adventure. We then walked to the plum orchard via nesting herons which was a beautiful walk. Popped into the garden the plum orchard walk was so gorgeous we skipped walking around the small garden. Highly recommended trip from Kyoto- only an hour on the train and we spent all morning walking to and around the castle ( about 15 mins walk from train station). Definitely worth a visit, castle, museum and garden with a nice view.

Hikone Castle: One of the Twelve Remaining Original Castles!
Hikone Castle is located in Hikone, Inukami District, Omi Province. During the Edo period, it served as the administrative center of the Hikone Domain. The main keep, attached turret, and Tamon turret are designated as National Treasures, and the castle ruins are a Special Historic Site as well as a Type 1 Special Area of Biwako Quasi-National Park. It is one of the five castles whose main keep is designated as a National Treasure. It is also selected as one of the Eight Views of Hikone and the Eight Views of Lake Biwa.

The complex has castle, plum orchard, garden, museum, (free) park including kids playground.
All these with beautiful view of lake biwa attached to them.
We visited last week and sakura flowers 🌺 had bloomed in one of the trees facing the castle.🏰
There was a long queue before entering the castle. Probably because it’s weekend and we had good time 🕰️ 🤩

Hikone Castle in Shiga, Japan
Address: 1-1 Konkicho, Hikone 522-0061 Shiga Prefecture
One of the 5 National Treasures (Castles) in Japan, Hikone Castle 🏯 which is over 400 years old, is one of the remaining few with their original structures preserved. The Hikone Castle, although smaller in size than some of the other castles in Japan, is still quite big to me, and we took some time exploring the castle and the surroundings.
As the castle is quite high up, we also need some time to climb up but it's all worth it, with the nice scenic view of Lake Biwa or Biwako, Japan's largest Freshwater Lake.
There's also the cute Hikonyan, which is a mascot created in 2007 to mark the 400th anniversary of Hikone Castle. You can take a photo with the mascot standee which is in front of the castle. There's also the cute mascot toys and merchandise sold in Hikone too.
Overall, for me, it's definitely worth a visit to at least one of the castles in Japan. Hope to be able to travel to Japan soon again.

Net red must hit the card to see the cherry blossoms in Japan.
When it comes to visiting cherry blossoms in Japan, many people responded first to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. In fact, there are many places where cherry blossoms are enjoyed in Japan, so it is definitely a technical job to choose a destination to avoid the peak of people. Hikone Castle, which is about 1.5 hours drive from Kyoto, is very recommended. The pink cherry blossoms here are very famous in Japan, but because they are far from Kyoto, tourists are much less than Kyoto.
Hikone Castle is an ancient city located in Kanagawa-cho, Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It is also one of the four remaining wooden castles in Japan's national treasures and national monuments. The city completely preserved the way of building the city before the Edo period. Alias Golden Turtle City (Golden City).
Compared with the cherry blossom period in Kyoto, Hikone Castle will be opened almost a few days in the evening, so it is too late to make plans.
Ticket: 800 yen.
Hikone Castle's night cherry is very beautiful, so if time permits, it is recommended to stay here for one night. It is recommended to take a night shot with a slow door.

Hakone Castle is not a popular place for Hakone Castle, but Himemoto Castle is famous in Japan. One of the eight scenes is the Yueming Hikone Castle, which is located in Kanagawa-cho, Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the four remaining wooden castles in Japan. It is also known as the Golden Turtle City and is Japan's designated national treasure and national monument.
It is the cherry blossom season of Hikone Castle from March 30 to April 15 of each year. It is convenient to go to Hikone Castle from Kyoto. Take the JR Lake Biwa Line under Hikone. After exiting the station, you can walk to Hikone Castle for a quarter of an hour. Tickets 800 yen per person.
Hakone Castle at the time of cherry blossoms, spectacular, beautiful city under the moat, one side of pink cherry blossoms on one side, green pines and cypresses on one side, the pool water is blown by the breeze, the white swan is rowing water leisurely, during the cherry blossoms There is a houseboat boating moat, very beautiful.
Standing on the platform of the castle, you can also overlook the blue lagoon in the distance, worth visiting.
2019 The cherry blossoms of Hikone Castle opened slightly later, and it is expected to be fully open around April 12.

Many people know Japan's very famous Osaka Castle or Himeji Castle, but there are not many foreigners who know Hikone Castle.
Hikone Castle is actually next to Penghu, the largest freshwater lake in Japan. It is also very convenient to arrive at Hikone Castle. You can take a direct ride on the JR Biwa Line. It takes only ten minutes to walk from the station to Hikone Castle.
Hikone Castle Here you will find that although it is not big, it retains a lot of ancient atmosphere, and some of the big river dramas are also here. You will find many scenes familiar.
Hikgen City can go to the city, board the castle tower, you can look at Penghu, the sun is beautiful when the sun sets.
