Toledo,Spain- a day trip from Madrid
There is a hidden gem outside of Madrid which is just less than an hour train ride! And that place is called Toledo!
Why is Toledo City Popular?
Toledo, is a Primeval Spanish City. It is tagged as the “City of Three Cultures”. Here, you can distinguish the UNESCO World Heritage Site of their ancient Arab, Jewish and Christian pillars taking you back in time making it a engrossing place to roam around.

Answer: I suggest to take the high-speed train from Atocha Station (Madrid’s Main Station). Trains depart every hour or half hour in the morning, then every hour in the evening. The earliest schedule to depart is at 6:50 in the morning, and the travel time takes about 30 minutes. The ticket costs about 14 Euros.

Toledo: Worth a visit.
After arriving in Madrid, the capital of Spain, on September 19, we were taken by a 9-seater car to visit Toledo, Spain, Europe, 70 kilometers away.
It is an ancient city in Spain. Located south of Madrid, it is the capital of Castilla-La Mancha and the capital of Toledo Province (Spain has 17 autonomous regions and 50 provinces), and the Tagus River surrounds most of the city. The population is about 50,000.
Toledo is the capital of medieval Spain. In 1984, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage City, leaving traces of Christian, Islamic, and Jewish historical and cultural forms.

Journey to the West of Iberia: The Charm and Regret of Toledo's Ancient City
In the wonderful journey through Spain and Portugal, our eighteenth stop brought us to the ancient city of Toledo, a city brimming with historical charm and artistic flair, like a living history book.
The history of Toledo's ancient city is long and distinguished; it was once an important political, cultural, and economic center in Spain. Throughout different historical periods, various ethnicities and cultures coexisted and intermingled here, leaving behind a rich historical heritage. From the remnants of the Roman era to the architectural style of the Moors, and the influence of Christianity, Toledo has witnessed the passage of time, carrying countless stories and legends.
The handicrafts of the old city are truly exceptional. Craftsmen, with their exquisite skills, create beautiful wood carvings, lavish embroidery, dazzling jewelry, and unique ironworks. These handicrafts are not only works of art but also symbols of Toledo's cultural heritage. As the capital of blades in Spain, the sword-making craftsmanship here is renowned far and wide, with each blade seemingly narrating the glory and splendor of the past.
The cathedral of the ancient city is breathtaking. Its majestic exterior, luxurious interior decorations, and precious religious artifacts make one feel as if they are in a sacred hall. The towering dome, exquisite stained glass windows, and lifelike sculptures all showcase the charm and solemnity of Gothic architecture.
However, this journey also left a tinge of regret. Among the many exquisite handicrafts, I was immediately drawn to a lifelike knight, but for various reasons, I was ultimately unable to take it with me. That regret, like a small gap, remains in my fond memories of Toledo.
Despite leaving Toledo's ancient city with this unfulfilled wish, its history, culture, and artistic allure have been deeply etched in my mind. Every stone and every alley of this city carries the brilliance of the past, allowing me to appreciate the profundity of time and the greatness of human civilization during my brief stay.

Third Trip with Kids to Spain: Toledo
Toledo, the capital of Spain at its zenith, is located 70 kilometers south of Madrid and is the capital of both Castile-La Mancha autonomous community and the Province of Toledo, with a population of about 50,000. We took the high-speed train to Toledo in the early morning, and the glass roof and curtain walls of Madrid Atocha Railway Station were beautifully enchanting in the dawn light.
✅ Must note:
It's best to drive with kids, and pay attention to two things when renting a car: choose an automatic transmission, and make sure the car is not too big, or rather, narrower, 1.8 meters at most.
👍 Highly recommended:
In the not-so-large old town, with its ups and downs, lefts and rights, you can reach every corner by foot. There are plenty of places to sit down and rest, and many attractive shops that keep you moving, always something drawing you to explore. The streets in the town are narrow and sloping, crisscrossing like a spider web. Along the streets, there are shops, inns, taverns, and cafés, one after another. There are no modern buildings here, all are genuinely antique and old, and perhaps because it's the off-season for tourism, once you step off the main street, it becomes quiet and quaint, as if you've stepped back into the Middle Ages.
📝 Note tips:
Head straight from the train station to the lookout point outside the city. It's a walk of over half an hour, and there isn't actually a designated lookout point, just a spot along the river road on a high place, with a small bar next to it.
👍 Highly recommended: See picture two
The best view of Toledo must be from this lookout point on the opposite side of the river outside the city, which faces the old town and offers a panoramic view of Toledo. From here, the beauty of the entire city is in full view. Bathed in the warm winter sun of the Iberian Peninsula, it's exceptionally enchanting and breathtakingly beautiful.
🧳 Pre-trip preparation:
Many people refer to Toledo as a small town or ancient town, but in reality, Toledo is not small at all; it is a true historic city of Europe, an ancient capital for a thousand years.
It was occupied by the Romans in 192 BC. In 527 AD, the Visigoths ruled Spain and made it their capital. In 711, it was conquered by the Moors. After King Alfonso VI of Castile recaptured the city in 1085, it became the capital of the Kingdom of Castile and the national religious center. In 1561, Philip II moved the capital to Madrid, and Toledo declined from then on, but its religious status remained unchanged, and it is still the seat of the Cardinal Archbishop of Spain to this day. It is evident that Toledo was not only the political center of Spain for a long time but also remains its religious center to this day. Moreover, Toledo is a complete and living ancient city.

[The ancient city of Toledo]
The city that once made Gleco deeply in love, is also a medieval city that he has not been able to put on for a long time, Toledo has retained its original appearance. Surrounded by the Tagus River, Alcazar is located on a deep valley and is a natural fortress. Islam, which has dominated the region for four centuries, has survived, and this splendid culture of mysterious collisions is worth a look. Under the double protection of the tower or the river and the ancient city wall, Toledo stands on the rocky mountain. This ancient city is a model of human tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Its gate is always open to tourists because Muslims, Jews and Christians are completely different. The religious culture is here and there.
The castle shape of the entrance and exit of the ancient city of Toledo, a combination of ancient and modern. I like to walk in the ancient city and go to many ancient cities all over the world. Some ancient cities are not deserted, but they are kept as open-air museums according to their original appearance, and the larger Toledo ancient city is very lucky. Not only retains all the buildings here, but also repairs it to varying degrees.
Take the ancient city is not only a place with a strong history, but also a place where ancient buildings gather. The steps in it are like in a maze. Every small street is beautiful, every corner. A fun and lovely little coffee shop and small craft shop will be found everywhere. It may be too famous Toledo, where travellers with maps looking for trails can be seen everywhere. The medieval look of the ancient city has been preserved until now. When the sun is strong, the light and shadow are long and slanting. Just want to stay and feel for two more minutes.
