"Pudong's First Church" - Jinjiaxiang Catholic Church
Jinjiaxiang Catholic Church, officially known as the "Immaculate Conception Church of the Catholic Diocese of Shanghai," is located at No. 80 Zihuai Road, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. The original site was at No. 35 Dajin Jiaxiang, built in 1628 (the first year of the Ming Chongzhen period). This church is not only the first Catholic church established in the Yangjing area but also the first Catholic church in the Pudong area, with a history of over 390 years, hence the name "Pudong's First Church." The church was named "Jinjiaxiang Catholic Church" because the construction funds were donated by a Catholic named Jin, and the church was located in Dajin Jiaxiang.
In March 2001, the old Jinjiaxiang Church was demolished due to land requisition. Two years later, the Jinjiaxiang Catholic Church was completed at its current location (No. 80 Zihuai Road). Unlike other Catholic churches, the newly built Jinjiaxiang Catholic Church adopts a modernist architectural style, consisting of three parts: the main building (church), bell tower, and priest's building. The entire church complex has a strong geometric sense.
