QUINCY BARKER
"Mongolian Museum" is the most extensive comprehensive collection of cultural relics collection, research and exhibition in the inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The gold crown of the Xiongnu King, which was unearthed in Ordos City, is exquisite and magnificent. It is the only gold crown decorated by the Huns in China. This set of gold crowns is made by casting, beating, embossing, spinning, inlaying, etc., and the eagle of the wings is tightly connected to the hemisphere. The fore ring is made up of three semi-circular gold bars and rivets. The horizontal part of the tiger, the horizontal disc sheep and the lying horse, etc., the middle part is the rope pattern, which shows the profound culture of the Huns. This is also the treasure of the museum of the Inner Mongolia Museum.

The history of revolutionary struggles; the unique folk culture created by the Mongolian, Oroqen, Ewenki, and Daur people. The exhibition hall building of the Inner Mongolia Museum has a unique shape and a white building with ethnic characteristics. The white horse of the volley Mercedes-Benz, which is loved by the Mongolian people, symbolizes the auspiciousness and soaring of Inner Mongolia. Couple’s Journey in Hohhot: A Cultural Exploration at the Provincial Museum and Dazhao Temple
#coupletravel Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, offers a blend of rich history and spiritual tranquility—perfect for a romantic couple’s trip. Our day began at the Inner Mongolia Museum, an excellent starting point to dive into the region’s vast cultural heritage. The museum’s exhibits, from ancient Mongolian artifacts to detailed displays of the nomadic lifestyle, were both fascinating and immersive. Walking through the spacious halls, we learned about everything from the history of Genghis Khan to the region’s natural wonders, sharing quiet moments of reflection as we explored each exhibit together.
After the museum, we made our way to the heart of Hohhot’s old town to visit Dazhao Temple, one of the city’s most important religious sites. The temple, with its traditional Tibetan-style architecture and intricate carvings, immediately exuded a sense of peace. Wandering through the temple grounds, we admired the golden Buddha statue and lit incense together, making a wish for the future. The gentle chime of prayer bells and the scent of incense added a serene, spiritual layer to our experience.
The combination of cultural immersion at the museum and the calm, reflective atmosphere at Dazhao Temple made this journey through Hohhot a deeply enriching experience for us as a couple. It was the perfect mix of learning and connection, offering moments to share both intellectual curiosity and quiet, spiritual peace.

The vivid Inner Mongolia Museum
The Inner Mongolia Museum was established in 1957. It has 8 exhibition halls and 6 themed exhibition halls, all of which are based on grassland culture. By fully utilizing modern technology, the exhibition halls appear particularly beautiful and captivating, giving people a sense of being there. The visuals are more comfortable, the vision is broader, and during the viewing process, one continuously learns about the charm of the grasslands, understands the grandeur of the grasslands, recognizes the splendor of the grasslands, and gains a clearer understanding of the vastness of the grassland sky.

Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Museum
The museum is too large, and our time and energy are limited. Even if we just take a quick look, we can't see everything. So we went straight to the 4th floor, where most of the museum's treasures are!
The Inner Mongolia Museum is a national first-class museum. The main building covers an area of 64,000 square meters, with an exhibition area of 15,000 square meters. The museum's collection is quite rich, with more than 150,000 items, including 5,643 sets of precious cultural relics and 650 sets of national first-class cultural relics. To understand a city, you must start by visiting its museum. Friends who come to Hohhot must come and appreciate it! It is definitely worth seeing.
Golden crown ornament with eagle top, the only Hu crown specimen found in China so far.
Eastern Han Dynasty gemstone inlaid golden crown ornament,
Northern Wei Dynasty eighth year of Taihe gilded bronze statue of Shakyamuni Buddha
Tang Dynasty yellow-green glazed parrot-shaped pottery kettle with handle
Liao Dynasty deer grass pattern gilded silver horse ornaments, including horse bridle ornaments, horse chest ornaments, horse rear ornaments, etc.

Princess's golden face cover
Gemstone inlaid golden crown
The ancient world occupies the first and second floors of the exhibition hall, displaying various dinosaur fossils, dinosaur egg fossils, fish fossils, mammoth fossils, etc. It is very shocking and suitable for bringing children for science education. Really can't finish visiting the big dinosaurs!
This huge dinosaur fossil occupying the central position of the exhibition hall is also a treasure of the museum. It is called the Chagan Nur Dragon skeleton fossil, the largest dinosaur in Asia during the Cretaceous period,
It is currently the largest dinosaur from the Cretaceous period in Asia that has been restored and mounted. Chagan Nur Dragon lived about 130 million years ago in the early Cretaceous period. It was about 26 meters long and could reach 12 meters when raising its head. It was discovered in 1985 in Chagan Nur, Sunite Right Banner, Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia (Chagan Nur means white lake in Mongolian). It belongs to a new species of the order Saurischia, suborder Sauropodomorpha, family Titanosauridae.
The cultural and creative store is on the first floor. After visiting, you can stroll around. There are many exquisite notebooks and videos. The most important thing is that stamping is free. You can stamp on your own notebook as you like, which is really friendly.
The cultural and creative products of the museum are rich in variety and very exquisite, but the prices are not cheap. I only bought a refrigerator magnet as a souvenir!

Inner Mongolia Museum... Hohhot.
The Inner Mongolia Museum is located in the center of Hohhot and is noted for its modern and splendid architectural style. The exterior of the museum features a unique design that blends tradition with modernity, showcasing a harmonious beauty. The curves and geometric shapes are in perfect harmony, and the decorations reflect the characteristics of the local ethnic groups.
The exterior of the building is particularly eye-catching, with tiles and glass panels of various colors reflecting light to create a dazzling visual effect. Inner Mongolia Museum.. Hohhot.
The Inner Mongolia Museum is located in the center of Hohhot and is one of the symbolic buildings of the autonomous region with its unique architectural design and ethnic characteristics. The Mongolian History Exhibition showcases the historical flow of a thousand years, from the origins of the Mongolian people to the Mongol Empire era, the Ming and Qing dynasties. It also displays the production, lifestyle, customs, etiquette, and religious beliefs of the eight ethnic groups residing in Inner Mongolia, including Mongols, Daur, Ewenki, Oroqen, Manchu, Hui, Korean, and Han.
Inside the museum, there are abundant exhibits of ancient plant and animal specimens, as well as geological and mineral samples. It opens at 10 AM and operates until 4:30 PM, always bustling with visitors. Among the museums I've visited, this one attracts the most crowds, comparable only to the Liaoning Battle Memorial, which mainly hosts group visitors, whereas this museum is mostly visited by individuals.
In terms of the range and diversity of collections, the Inner Mongolia Museum is comparable to the Shaanxi History Museum and the Luoyang Museum among the places I've visited. While the Forbidden City Museum has a sufficient collection, the number of items actually on display is limited. Today, I was able to learn a lot by touring all the exhibition halls.

A Day in the Museum
The Inner Mongolia Museum has got to be one of the best museums I've been to. There's just a lot of interesting things to see and history to explore! The free entrance is just a cherry on top, but honestly, with the vast displays and well furated artifacts, I'd be willing to pay just to get inside. Truly, it's a must visit museum in China as I personally lost track of time because of the rich collection they have. Moreover, i hope people would take time to read the captions in order to fully appreciate the history and culture of inner mongolia!#museum #history #culture #china

Grassland Culture Tour (Hohhot)
Inner Mongolia is not only famous for its grasslands but also has a long history similar to the Central Plains region. It was once home to a series of ethnic minorities such as the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Khitan, Jurchen, and Manchu. The history of grassland culture is also a history of struggle and integration between the Han nationality and various ethnic groups in the grassland area, a history of ethnic fusion where you are in me and I am in you.
The museum is quite large, with exhibition halls spread across the second to fourth floors. It is recommended to start from the fourth floor and work your way down. The three halls on the fourth floor introduce the history of this land from the Paleolithic Age to the Liao and Song periods in chronological order. Several treasures of the museum are also concentrated on this floor. Unfortunately, I was unable to see the 'Charm of Integration' exhibition hall on the third floor; at 4:40 p.m., I found the door tightly closed, not sure why. After reading the introduction of this museum, it seems that the focus is not on introducing the Mongol and Yuan periods. As the largest museum in the autonomous region, the absence of an exhibition hall dedicated to the Mongol and Yuan periods is somewhat puzzling. But after some thought, it becomes clear. If they were to bring all the artifacts from the Mongol and Yuan periods here, what would the city museum do? The feelings of brotherly units must be considered. The above is purely personal speculation
Among the museum's collections, the more famous ones include, in picture 2, the Xiongnu crown, which I have seen replicas of at the Ordos Bronze Ware Museum, and it has quite a reputation; in picture 3, the Liao dynasty painted wooden coffin, which was used as a prototype for the coffin in the 'Ghost Blows Out the Light' movie, is very exquisitely designed and decorated. Although the identity of the tomb owner is not clear, they were definitely either rich or noble; in picture 4, the gold mask comes from the famous tomb of Princess Chen's son-in-law, and Princess Chen was the granddaughter of the war goddess Xiao Yanyan.
I will visit again if I have the chance, after all, I didn't get to see the Yuan dynasty 'Jun kiln 'Xiao Song self-made' incense burner' or the gemstone-studded gold crown decoration this time

Have you ever seen a fossil of a hatched dinosaur egg?
The Inner Mongolia Museum combines strong modern elements, regional representations and ethnic characteristics. It is a 'encyclopedia' that condenses the ecological changes and the development of grassland civilization in northern China over billions of years. It is also a symbol of the economic and social development level and civilization level of the autonomous region.
In terms of resource advantages such as paleontological fossils, extant organisms, historical relics, and ethnic relics, the Inner Mongolia Museum can be said to be surprisingly and even unbelievably!
⚠️
2nd floor: The four basic displays of 'Ancient World', 'Plateau Magnificence', 'Underground Treasure', and 'Flying Divine Boat' introduce the birthplace of grassland culture, where the scenery blends and comes to life!
3rd floor: The four basic displays of 'Grassland Heroism', 'Grassland Pride', 'Grassland Style', 'Grassland Beacon' show the vertical development line of grassland culture from ancient to modern times in a simple, vivid, and easy-to-understand way!
4th floor: The six special displays of 'Grassland Sunrise', 'Wind and Cloud Knight', 'Grassland Clothing', 'Sky Melody', 'Grassland Chapter', 'Ancient Road Treasures' present the six highlights of grassland culture in a focused way, fresh and solemn, elegant and popular!
⚠️
Inner Mongolia was a paradise for reptiles such as dinosaurs during the Mesozoic era. In the Inner Mongolia Museum, you can see all the unprecedented evidence of the existence of dinosaurs.
Those real traces, whether footprints or eggshells, whether small parrot-beaked dinosaurs or the largest dinosaur fossil in Asia: Chagan Nor Dragon, my god, it is 26 meters long, 9 meters high, and can reach 3 meters high when it raises its head. It is herbivorous, gregarious, and moves quickly. The museum had to use a three-story hollow design to place it. Imagine, on the grasslands of Xilingol in Inner Mongolia, such huge creatures running and gathering in groups, what a spectacular scene it would be!
The discovery of these bone fossils, and the experts piecing them together, once again prove that they really came to this world. The uncontrollability and unpredictability of nature did not give these huge creatures a chance to advance, and we humans should always be filled with awe!
