We choose to visit Jeonju, as a short trip away from hustle bustle of Seoul, and most definitely in love with it! Jeonju might be not first choices of travellers, who usually might opt for Busan, which is quite faraway from the Seoul. Jeonju come along as a perfect choice, which took only 1 hour and 40 minutes journey via KTX from Seoul. Jeonju is famous for its Hanok village, and you might want to experience to stay for a night in hanok (which we did!), which is cheap! We stay at Haneulae Hanok Stay, and only cost us around RM 150/night. Jeonju Hanok Village is easy to explore on foot, as every attraction is within walkable distance, and theres lots of cafe and cute stores, tucked away behind the alleys. We also exploring the Gyangjijeon Shrine which is built to enshrined the potrait of King Taejo of Joseon. If you wish to wear Hanbok, there are lots of stores in Hanok Village that offer cheaper option, compared to in Seoul. Be sure also to try their Jeonju Bibimbap! We try Jeonju Bibimbap at Hankook Jib, which is famous in Jeonju and opt for seafood option, which is delicious! We also did some night strolling and come across the beautiful Namcheongyo Bridge! Jeonju's hidden picnic gem, the Chimyeongjasan Martyrdom Shrine, is a place I never realized had such beautiful scenery and lush greenery, as I had only visited it for Catholic pilgrimages. This shrine was established when the remains of Augustine Yu Hang-geom, a martyr from the Joseon Dynasty's Catholic persecution in the Jeolla region, were moved to the summit of Chimyeongjasan. Today, it stands as the Chimyeongjasan Martyrdom Shrine. The Way of the Cross leading to the summit of Chimyeongjasan, the heart of the shrine, is a wonderful trail for a walk and reflection, even for non-believers. At the entrance, Montmartre Square and the Hall of Peace serve as both a resting place for pilgrims and a haven for Jeonju residents. While it's worth exploring just the area around the Hall of Peace on the ground level, if you follow the Way of the Cross upward, you'll encounter the Mountain Fortress Church built into the cliffs. This church, steeped in history, offers a unique charm distinct from the ground-level sanctuary. A little further up, the observatory provides a panoramic view of Jeonju city, offering a refreshing and liberating experience. Chimyeongjasan Shrine might be an unfamiliar travel destination, but it's a place where you can find rest and tranquility, even if you're not a believer. Cafe Hanol, located on a hill overlooking Deokjin Park in Jeonju, is a Hanok-style café adjacent to the Jeonbuk National University International Convention Center. This bakery-focused café offers a variety of delicious treats! On a particularly hot day, I enjoyed a refreshing pink lemonade to quench my thirst. Since the café is open until 11 PM, it might be a great idea to enjoy the illuminated view of Deokjin Park from the hill at night. #OutdoorDate Did you know that the Korea Art Festival is taking place throughout September, the beginning of fall? I visited the Jeonju Museum of Modern Art in conjunction with the Korea Art Festival, where they held an exhibition titled "Jeong-eum," a youthful sound of the times. It was a truly touching experience for me and for all of us living in this era. At first, upon hearing the title, I thought it was about sound. However, upon arriving at the exhibition hall, I discovered that it truly tells the stories of our lives today, using paintings, Korean traditional paintings, and media videos. The exhibition, featuring around 20 young calligraphers, explores the anxieties we feel, the sense of impulsiveness we feel as we move forward, and the voices within us. Many of the works utilize commonly used language, creating a sense of familiarity, while others left me wondering how they could have come up with such ideas. The second part, themed "Jeong-eum Embracing Tomorrow," combines calligraphy, painting, Korean painting, and media art. The exhibition, which interprets Korean art through the lens of our media-savvy perspective, was truly captivating and beautiful. After viewing the exhibitions on the first and second floors, the finale features an interactive exhibit where you can write about your own "sound of my time." The exhibition's purpose is to encourage you to truly articulate your inner voice without overthinking, so feel free to write down your own thoughts and thoughts. This exhibition was surprisingly informative, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Jeonju. "Looking for a great place to walk or run in Jeonju?" Cheongyeonru, famous for its nighttime views in Jeonju! Although I didn’t get to see the night scenery, I went for a morning walk with my dad. The lush green scenery made me feel glad I decided to come out. There were many people walking their dogs or running. I regret not trying a run myself. The ticket costs 13,800 won (approximately 340 baht). The journey takes about 4 hours. When traveling in Jeonju, we recommend taking a taxi, as it's most convenient. 🛖 Jeonju Hanok Village This hanok village is a popular tourist attraction in Jeonju. It offers hanbok rentals, restaurants, cafes, cycling, architecture, and a hill with a sunrise and sunset viewing point.
