A hidden gem in Kyoto: KAMOHAN, a poetic encounter between tradition and modernity.
Good wine is indeed in deep alleys in Kyoto, a thousand-year-old ancient capital, but "KAMOHAN" is like a melodious guzheng, playing in the depths of the alley, waiting for the heart that desires to explore. This is not just a place to stay, it is a dream woven by two hosts - an architect and a tea artist, with painstaking effort and time.
This two-story townhouse is located on the bank of the Kamogawa River in Gojo, Kyoto, quiet and elegant. Its existence is like a bridge between the city and nature, allowing people to shuttle freely between hustle and bustle and tranquility. The location is unique, not only easy to integrate into the lives of locals, but also always unexpectedly encounter those hidden surprises when exploring every street and alley of Kyoto on foot.
The host's intentions can be seen from the beginning of the renovation. They hired professional carpenters and paper craftsmen, and carefully polished every corner for many years. The selection of antique furniture and artworks, each carries a story; the long table is made of ancient wood with a history of three hundred years, and each texture tells the vicissitudes of the years; the carpet comes from the Akoh Tsuzuki workshop with a history of 150 years, and each line is woven with ingenuity; Wataru Hatano's handmade washi wall, each piece reveals the temperature of the paper artist.
The entrance hall is not only the preface of the space, but also the starting point of modern life. The fully equipped kitchen and dining area add a bit of daily life to the traditional Japanese-style space. Here, tradition and modernity coexist, and every detail shows the host's ingenuity and ingenuity.
The ambiguous Engawa space cleverly connects the bathroom and the outdoor garden, blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor. The warm and secure bedroom is connected to the tea room overlooking the Kamogawa River, allowing people to feel the flow of time in the tranquility. Light and shadow are intertwined here, and every moment becomes the most beautiful picture in memory.
KAMOHAN is a time secret in the alleys of Kyoto. It tells the poetic encounter between tradition and modernity in its own way. Here, accommodation is not just a stay, but a spiritual journey. I can't wait to immerse myself in this scroll of time again.
