Travel Itinerary for Lantau Island - This One Article is Enough
If you are going to Lantau Island, you should definitely visit Tai O. After all, the cost-effectiveness of Tai O Fishing Village is very high. For fifty dollars, you can go out to sea for an hour, and if you're lucky, you might see dolphins.
My experience was:
1. Take the cable car up to Lantau Island,
2. First visit Po Lin Monastery, watch the documentary about the construction of the Big Buddha, eat Po Lin Monastery's desserts, and take countless photos of lotus flowers,
3. Then climb the Big Buddha and visit the facilities inside the Big Buddha.
Walk to the Heart Sutra Stele,
4. Then return to the foot of the Big Buddha, take bus No. 21 to Tai O, stroll around the fishing village, and take a speedboat to try your luck at seeing dolphins.
5. After that, take bus No. 21 back to the foot of the Big Buddha, and then take the Ngong Ping cable car down the mountain.
Special Note: There is a free tourist office at Ngong Ping Station that takes visitors to see the local plants of Hong Kong Island and the Heart Sutra Stele. The guides there organize walking tours to the Heart Sutra Stele every one or two hours. The 2 PM tour is in English, and the other tours are in Cantonese. I originally wanted to join the 2 PM English tour. However, the guide was worried that if I returned at 3 PM, I wouldn't be able to make it back to take the cable car (because the bus from Tai O to Ngong Ping ends early), so they suggested I join an earlier Cantonese tour. This made my later schedule a bit rushed. So, I suggest you arrive at Ngong Ping earlier.
The bus schedule from Ngong Ping to Tai O and back is clearly shown in the photos I took. Refer to the times in the photos for your planning! Important things need to be said three times! This schedule is accurate! I personally asked the bus driver. Don't doubt it! Previously, whether I asked the guide at the Heart Sutra Stele or the entire tourist service center at Ngong Ping Station, none of the staff knew the accurate information, and they even gave me the wrong time for the last bus from Tai O to Ngong Ping. Don't trust them! Just look at the photos I took.
Of course, at that time, because I bought a round-trip cable car ticket, I felt it would be a pity not to take the cable car down the mountain. After all, the scenery along the way is super amazing, but the weather on Hong Kong Island often changes suddenly in summer. When I returned, there was strong wind and heavy rain, and I almost had to take the bus down the mountain. Even after the rain stopped, the windows of the cable car fogged up, and I couldn't see anything outside.
So, I think it's better to buy a one-way cable car ticket up the mountain. Then, after having fun in Tai O, take the bus directly back to Hong Kong Island from Tai O.

Tian Tan Buddha: A Must-Visit Attraction in Hong Kong
Address - Ngong Ping Road, Lantau Island
Environment/Facilities - Picturesque scenery
Feature - 260-step long staircase
Average Price - Free admission
Rating - 9.5/10
The Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong is located at the peak of Mount Muk Yue on Lantau Island. It is the world's largest outdoor bronze seated Buddha statue, weighing 250 tons and standing 23 meters tall, built in the early 1990s. The Buddha was designed according to the thirty-two aspects of a Buddha as described in the sutras. Its facial features are modeled after the Lushena Buddha in the Longmen Grottoes, while the drapery and head ornaments reference the Sakyamuni Buddha statue in the 360th cave of the Mogao Caves, thus embodying the characteristics of Buddhist statues from the prosperous Sui and Tang dynasties. To reach the base of the Tian Tan, one must climb 260 stone steps. The base is modeled after the Circular Mound Altar at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The interior structure is divided into three layers: the Hall of Merit, the exhibition hall, and the memorial hall.
Along the trail next to the Po Lin Monastery is the 2.5-kilometer-long Ngong Ping Fun Walk, which is wide, flat, and scenic, leading directly to the tea garden, making it most suitable for beginner hikers. Additionally, Lantau Island is nearly twice the size of Hong Kong Island, with most of its area designated as country parks, offering a tranquil environment. Hong Kong International Airport and Disneyland are also located on Lantau Island, allowing for combined visits.

Yearning for the serene vistas and tranquil ambiance of the Hong Kong Big Buddha.
Every visit to the Big Buddha is a journey of rediscovery, a chance to reconnect with myself and the world around me. From the moment I ascend those steps and catch the first glimpse of the magnificent statue, I am captivated all over again.
With each visit, I find myself drawn deeper into its embrace, finding solace in its silent wisdom and timeless grace.
I would like to go to re-experience it again at HK Big Buddha.

Tiger’s Head Hike
We decided to do the Tiger’s Head Hike on the 24th of January, starting from Tung Chung MTR Station, and ending at Discovery Bay North Plaza.
From the MTR Station, we walked through Citygate, and continued past the Caribbean Coast Housing Estate, until we arrived at the PetroChina Petrol Station. From here, look for a path that continues past the Petrol Station, and bring you along the side of the MTR tracks.
Continue walking along this path until you arrive at a pedestrian underpass. Pass under the highway, and continue walking straight onto a road. You are now on the Olympic Trail.
On the Olympic Trail, you will pass through the villages of Pak Mong, Ngau Kwu Long and Tai Ho San Tsuen, until you arrive at a peak with multiple intersections. On the path which goes towards Mui Wo, you will take a left turn. You are now on the path towards Tiger’s Head.
On this path, you will pass by Wong Chuk Long Shan, Standing Rock and Wo Sheung Tung, before arriving at the peak known as Tiger’s Head (Lo Fu Tau).
Just below the peak, you will have a few paths to choose from; they could bring you to Discovery Bay North or South Plaza. We opted for the path which leads towards the North Plaza, as we were craving a slice of Paisano’s Pizza!
Just a warning that the descent may be more difficult than the ascent due to the steepness of the dirt slope, which makes it more difficult to grip onto. There were a few slips by us, but nothing serious! We managed to stay on our feet and make it down safely!
Here are the statistics of our hike:
• Moving Time: 3 hours minutes
• Average Pace: 14 minutes per kilometer
• Elapsed Time: 3 hours 10 minutes
• Elevation Gain: 608 meters
• Maximum Elevation: 457 meters
I hope you can use them to effectively plan out your hike.

Lantau is the paradise you’ve been looking for!
Whether you want to hike to a sunset viewpoint or take a glass-bottomed gondola to the tallest seated Buddha in Hong Kong before going back down to a restaurant by the sea, Lantau has something for you.
How to get there. The easiest way to get to Lantau Island from Central is via ferry. Hop on the ferry from Central Pier 6 to Mui Wo, located at eastern Lantau. The ordinary ferry takes 60 minutes whilst the fast ferry takes 40 minutes.

Ngong Ping 360
#hkinsider
The easy way to get into Lantau Island is through Ngong Ping Cable Car, which connects from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping on Lantau Island.
It takes around 25 minutes to ride 5.7km in length. Let's experience the thrill of a 360-degree view panoramic of the land, rainforest, sea, and the sky.
Don't forget to catch a glimpse of Tian Tan Buddha before the cable car reaches Ngong Ping. It's the perfect and beautiful view of the Buddha statue in the forest.
There are several exciting places to see during this 25 minutes ride, such as Ngong Ping Village, Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge, and Tung Chung Bay.

Wisdom Path Lantau Island
The Wisdom Path - Infinity symbol on Lantau Island.
Did you know - there are 38 giant wood columns, which measure 8-10 meters tall and 1 meter wide, arranged in a "∞" pattern following the natural terrain of the site to signify infinity.

🇭🇰Beautiful views of Lantau Island
When you reach the top of the Big Buddha at Lantau island, you will be blessed and also rewarded with an amazing view at the top. You get to see a bird’s eye view of Lantau Island. You also can see Po Lin Monastery where you had your vegetarian lunch. I was checking the website and it said the stairs to climb up to Big Buddha are closed for upgrading. When I am in Hong Kong, I will reconfirm with the hotel or check the website before I go up to Lantau Island. If not I only can ride on the cable car and not being able to go to the top.

🇭🇰 Big Buddha
This Big Buddha of Lantau Island is a popular attraction for tourists and a place of worship too. It is a large bronze statue and the Po Lin Monastery is at the bottom of the climb. This climb is a staircase which has 268 steps to complete before reaching the top. I was lucky to have witness a monk who was praying and climbing his way up the stairs. He was kneeling and bowing every few steps. You can do the climb and take a photo with the Big Buddha. If you wish to enter inside the Big Buddha, you will have to pay an entrance fee.

Discovery Bay staycation
Have a good time at Discovery Bay Hotel! Since it is only two days before check-in to book. , all sea view rooms are not available, only mountain view rooms can be selected!
But fortunately, the hotel arranged a mountain view room with a better view for me! At the end of the corridor in the corner room. Originally, I wouldn't have seen the sea and only the mountain view from the shape of my house
I looked at the official website of the hotel and it seems that the mountain view room does not have a bathtub! There is only a normal bathtub so I am very happy! If you like Moomin, you will definitely like this once-themed room!

Temple Hunting on Lantau Island Hong Kong
If you are interested in a bit of temple hunting and off the beaten path type adventures then be sure to go back over to Lantau Island and only a walks worth away from the Buddha are the dedicated temples.
We we’re told that we were not allowed to take pictures inside of the temples because it would be dishonorable however we were definitely surprised with the amount of gold we saw inside the temples not only because of the designs of the figurines of the Buddhas but also because of the amount of the figurines was plentiful.
The history of this island can most definitely be felt here so please be sure to visit.

⛺️It was an interesting experience to go camping with my friends during winter.
📵You would probably be cut off from the outside world as there is no data/ wifi-connection service covered, which perfectly offered you a chance to spend quality time with family and friends without technology.
🔥The cold was fierce yet the fire kept us warm.
💧🌊The sea sparkle (aka blue tears) really impressed me and made me feel the vast of the ocean and the nature. *You may need to wake at midnight to witness this magic moment*🪄
🌄The sunrise was also incredibly stunning!! Put this place to your bucket list✍🏽✨

一樹洞
Come to the highest natural cave in Hong Kong. I heard that this cave was named because of a small tree that once grew. Now it is full of moss, and the stone walls are slippery and rust-colored. Immediately, I heard the echoes scattered, and I felt like I was back in the era of martial arts movies when I was in the cave. The fog and water made the scenery looming, making it even more mysterious.
Please note that the road conditions are extremely rough, the mountain trails are blurred, and the mobile phone reception is poor. You must be well prepared, equipped with appropriate clothing and beverages, and led by experienced people.

Tong Fuk Beach is beautiful 😍
I have lived here for 17 years and I can honestly say that Tong Fuk Village is the best place to grow up in Hong Kong.
The beach is less than 2 minutes away from the bus stop, and at most 5 minutes away from the back of the village.
Personally, I think it is the best beach on Lantau, and one of the best beaches in Hong Kong 🇭🇰.

Egg Benedict with Pink Hollandaise $140 French Toast $130
During the New Year’s holiday, I came to the cafe in Mui Wo. It was about ten minutes walk from the pier to a small shop. It has outdoor seating and is convenient for friends with pets. In terms of food, it focuses on a series of healthy food + specialty coffee. The ingredients are the main ingredients, I recommend everyone to try their French toast, it is a surprise, it is a super large portion
French Toast
A super large portion of French toast②The outer layer is crispy and the inner layer is soft, but it is slightly dry. Paste on the dough with homemade apple sauce
+mascarpone, together with a few slices of dried apples, the whole is sweet and sour, not greasy
QEgg Benedict with Pink Hollandaise To match the theme of the New Year, it introduced the egg benedict's sourdough with the left beetroot flavor, which was baked slightly hard, but the sourness was unexpectedly prominent. Personally, I don’t really like the combination of beetroot and boiled eggs. Adding the hollandaise to the beetroot, it looks pink, but in fact it is completely eaten without the taste of beetroot~
