a pretty sight of the Lanyang museum, from far and near. This museum is located next to Wushigang Harbor where one can learn about the history, culture, landscape, and natural beauty of Yilan.
The architecture of the musuem was inspired by natural elements found locally such as the cuesta, a rock-form commonly found along the northeast coast of Taiwan.

The Lanyang Museum stands out among the many museums in Taiwan. Thanks to its philosophy and design, it is dominated by the harmony of human and nature and the association of people and history. It sits on a waterfront in Yilan County, Taiwan. The building grows like a stone.
Step into the museum, you can see the designer's intention everywhere, the large floor-to-ceiling glass is supported by a giant steel frame, and the lighting is excellent, natural and stylish. The
exhibition hall is divided into four floors, named after mountains, plains, sea and time gallery, showing the natural resources and human history of Yilan in all directions.
Bei Ming once said: "There are differences in architecture and art, but they are essentially the same. My goal is to seek harmony between the two. The relationship between space and form is the art of architecture and architecture. The essence.
Lanyang Museum is such a perfect combination of architecture and art.

Lanyang Plain One-Day Tour
Morning: Depart from Jiaoxi - Yilan Performing Arts Center - Luodong Forestry Culture Park
Afternoon: Lanyang Museum - Wushi Harbor - Mr. Brown Coffee Castle
Evening: Luodong Night Market - Jiaoxi Hot Spring Bath
Transportation: Motorcycle (NT300~450/day)
Yilan Performing Arts Center: The cultural park is designed with the concept of 'three halls, three streets, and three buildings', linking traditional crafts, folk arts, and performances. It allows visitors to experience the architecture inherited from Southern Fujian and the living relics of the ancestors, as well as modern innovative crafts, offering a different sensation from the past. Ticket price: NT150/person.
Luodong Forestry Culture Park: During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan had three major government-operated forestries: Alishan, Basianshan, and Taipingshan, among which Taipingshan was developed later. The Luodong Forestry Culture Park is the former site of the Luodong branch office and log pond from that era.
In 1982, logging in Taipingshan ceased, and in 2004, this area was planned as a forestry culture park. After refurbishment, integrating forestry history and sustainable ecological planning, it was opened to the public for free in 2012 under the old name of Luodong Forestry. The park is lush with trees and is the perfect place for a picnic and to escape the heat at noon.
Lanyang Museum: Located in the Wushi Harbor Heritage Park, the museum's architecture blends with the natural landscape, resembling an organism coexisting with the earth. The interior space of the museum is uniquely designed, especially when taking the elevator upwards, it feels like a space from another world. The museum's collection showcases the overall geographical environment and cultural trajectory of Yilan, making it well worth a visit.
On weekdays, there are many visitors, and it is best to use the museum's closing day on Monday for photography. The opening hours on weekdays are 9:00~17:00.
Wushi Harbor: Next to the Lanyang Museum is Wushi Harbor, named for the black reefs in the harbor area, hence the residents called this port 'Wu Kou Harbor'. In old times, Wushi Harbor was the largest city in Lanyang and an important gateway to Toucheng. 'Shigang Spring Sails' describes the scene of ships coming and going incessantly at that time, and it is one of the eight scenic spots of Lanyang. It is now a leisure fishing port in the Yilan area, where people board boats for whale and dolphin watching or to visit Turtle Island.
Mr. Brown Coffee Castle: The Mr. Brown Coffee Castle in Toucheng is located halfway up the hill, overlooking Wushi Harbor & Wai'ao Beach. It is a highly popular scenic restaurant. Visiting the Mr. Brown Coffee Castle is free of charge, and the minimum consumption for dining in is just one drink. Moreover, the menu prices are the same as in other Mr. Brown coffee shops, without any price gouging.
