National treasures in Liaoning.
Before going to the Liaoning Provincial Museum, I watched the documentary series "National Treasures in Liaoning" to do some homework in advance.
Picture 1: White Jade Pig Dragon
Picture 2: Horse Hoof Gold
Picture 3: Duck-shaped Glass Pourer
Picture 4: Flower Tree-shaped Gold Hairpin
Picture 5: Gold-handled Bronze Short Sword
Picture 6: Pomegranate-shaped Zun
Picture 9: Coiled Body Kui-patterned Panlong Covered Lei
Picture 10: Copper Gilded Wooden Horse Stirrup
Due to the rush of time, there are many treasures that I saw but didn't take pictures of, or missed. Although it's a bit of a pity, I'm quite satisfied: the 10:30 guide was particularly good, making the still objects have history and vitality.
I suggest friends coming to Shenyang not to miss it!

Liaoning Provincial Museum
The museum services are very user-friendly, with free storage for large boxes and small bags, as well as drinking water. The cultural and creative store is the most crowded and lively.
Important reminder written at the beginning: When entering the museum, buy a Liaoning Impression Collection book or bring your own small book to collect stamps. Each exhibition hall has different stamps, which are very commemorative.
It takes 3-5 hours to visit the entire museum. The Ancient Liaoning Exhibition has five exhibition halls, all on the third floor. We started at 1 PM and hadn't finished by 6 PM when the museum closed. Recommendation: To better understand the exhibits, it is best to hire a guide or rent electronic guide equipment. During the winter and summer vacations, the museum is particularly crowded, mostly with parents bringing their children. The Liaoning Museum is a comprehensive museum integrating history, art, archaeology, and folklore. The main building of the museum is divided into three floors, each displaying precious cultural relics with different themes. The first floor, themed 'Flying Dragon in the Sky,' showcases exquisite pottery; the second floor features the Manchu Folk Customs Exhibition, as well as exhibitions of bronze mirrors, ancient coins, ceramics, seals, and Buddhist and Taoist artifacts; the third floor displays the historical changes of ancient Liaoning and various paintings. Bring students.

Explore the cultural treasures of Liaoning, a must-visit destination on your Shenyang journey
📍Explore the cultural treasures of Liaoning, a must-visit destination on your Shenyang journey—Liaoning Provincial Museum! Located at No. 157, Wisdom Three Street, Hunnan District, Shenyang, this comprehensive museum is not only honored as a national first-class museum but is also one of the eight major museums jointly built by the central and local governments. Here, it is also the leading calligraphy and painting treasury in the nation, with a rich collection that is breathtaking.
🏛️Liaoning Provincial Museum carries a profound historical heritage, being the first museum to greet China's land. Its predecessor dates back to the Northeast Museum, which opened on July 7, 1949. Even earlier, in 1931, it was once the Mukden Branch of the National Museum of the Republic of China. Through the changes of time, it has undergone renaming, expansion, and relocation, and finally, on May 16, 2015, the new Hunnan branch of the Liaoning Provincial Museum officially opened to the public, and by the end of 2016, it fully revealed its mysteries to the public.
🌈The museum has three floors with 22 exhibition halls, 14 of which are permanently open, displaying historical treasures to visitors; there are also 8 temporary exhibition halls, with changing exhibits periodically, bringing a sense of freshness to each visit.
🔍Due to the rich exhibits in the museum, it is recommended that visitors plan ahead, understand the distribution and themes of each floor, so as to more accurately appreciate the desired exhibits. Personally, I started from the third floor and visited each floor from top to bottom. Although it took a whole day, there were still many exhibits that I only glanced at briefly.
🏰The 'Ancient Liaoning' series displayed on the third floor is divided into five exhibition halls and can be called the essence of the museum. Here, with time as the axis, it starts from the origin of human civilization in Liaoning and narrates until the end of the Qing Dynasty, including five parts: the prehistoric period, the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, the Warring States to the Sui and Tang dynasties, the Liao and Jin periods, and the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, presenting a series of vivid historical scrolls to visitors.
🎎The second floor focuses on displaying ancient Chinese bronze mirrors, currency, Liao dynasty ceramics, Manchu folklore, imperial seals from various dynasties, and Buddhist statues, each carrying a profound historical and cultural connotation.
🏺The first floor mainly exhibits ancient Chinese steles, Ming and Qing jade, and porcelain, allowing one to feel as if they are traveling through time and conversing with the ancients.
💔However, it is slightly regrettable that some of the most precious collections in the museum, such as Zhang Xu's 'Four Posts of Ancient Poetry in Cursive Script', Zhou Fang's 'Court Ladies Adorning Their Hair with Flowers', Zhang Xuan's 'Spring Outing of the Lady of Guo', Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty's 'Thousand Characters in Cursive Script' and 'Auspicious Cranes', and Ouyang Xun's 'Dream Stele', are not on display every day, and one can only look forward to seeing their true form on the next visit.
🕰️The opening hours of Liaoning Provincial Museum vary with the seasons. From April 1 to October 31, the opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00 (entry stops at 16:30); from November 1 to March 31, the hours are adjusted to 9:00 to 16:30 (entry stops at 16:00). Please note that the museum is closed every Monday (except for national statutory holidays) and also on New Year's Eve. Visitors are advised to plan their visit in advance.

Wandering through the Liaoning Museum, the tranquility of heaven and earth abounds
The Liaoning Provincial Museum, compared to the popular provincial museums of recent years, such as the Henan Museum, Hubei Provincial Museum, and Shaanxi History Museum, which have been notoriously difficult to get tickets for, is indeed very low-key. It is worth noting that the Liaoning Museum is also one of the only eight national key museums jointly built by central and local governments.
The Liaoning Provincial Museum, originally named the Northeast Museum, was established on July 7, 1949, and is most renowned for its collections of Jin, Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasty paintings and calligraphy, Song and Yuan dynasty kesi silk embroidery, Hongshan culture jade artifacts, Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze ware from tombs, Liao dynasty ceramics, steles from various dynasties, Ming and Qing dynasty prints, ancient maps, and currencies from various dynasties.

Ukiyo-e, the inspiration for Impressionism, was an encyclopedia of the Edo period!
During the Edo period, people's interests shifted towards contemporary fashion and customs, and a large number of ukiyo-e, which depicted various aspects of life, emerged, later becoming synonymous with Japanese painting.
Ukiyo-e evolved from Japanese genre painting, influenced by the native 'Yamato-e' as well as drawing nourishment from Song and Yuan dynasty paintings, Ming and Qing dynasty prints, and related ancient texts from China. In its later stages, it also incorporated Western painting techniques such as perspective, becoming one of the most influential art forms in modern Japan.
Early ukiyo-e art, known as 'nikuhitsu ukiyo-e', was hand-painted by the artists themselves, primarily featuring aristocratic themes. Later, Iwasa Matabei introduced popular fashions into painting subjects.
Hishikawa Moronobu was influenced by Ming and Qing prints, combining printmaking with painting, which led ukiyo-e from hand-painting to mass production. This also resulted in a large number of printed color woodblock prints, known as 'nishiki-e'.
Utagawa Hiroshige, Katsushika Hokusai, and Kitagawa Utamaro are known as the 'Three Great Masters of Ukiyo-e'. Utagawa Kuniyoshi became famous for his 'Heroes of Suikoden' series, sparking an unprecedented craze for warrior prints. Kitagawa Utamaro gained fame for his paintings of beauties, touching the hearts of worldly wanderers.
Ogata Gekko was a self-taught artist whose painting style blended modern sensibility and technique.
In the mid-19th century West, the artistic style of ukiyo-e propelled the painting movement from Impressionism to Post-Impressionism. Masters like Monet and Van Gogh copied ukiyo-e and drew inspiration from it.
In the world of fleeting pleasures, only art and love should never be betrayed.

Liaoning Provincial Museum + Shenyang Museum
When traveling to a province and city, the first thing to see is the museum, to understand the history, geography, and cultural evolution. Only then can you appreciate other individual attractions with a sense of history and cultural charm.
To understand the Northeast, start with these museums. The border of the Liao Dynasty once reached today's Datong in Shanxi, an area that is beyond imagination. Even influenced by Han culture, the Liao Dynasty adopted two different governance methods, including those that inherited Han cultural governance concepts. Chinese civilization transcends regions and ethnicities, belonging to a category of universal civilization.

Roaming Appetites
Songliao Plain
Since the beginning of the Han Dynasty, the Fuyu people have lived in the central Songliao Plain and northern Liaoning for more than 700 years, constantly expanding outward and maintaining a close vassal relationship with the Han Dynasty. At the time of Han and Wei, the 'Three Counties of Wuhuan' and the Gongsun regime in Liaoning were divided into Liaoxi and Liaodong, and were later replaced by Cao Wei. In the 12th year of Jian'an (207), Cao Cao launched an expedition against the Wuhuan, rushing to Liucheng, and the two sides fought a decisive battle at Bailang Mountain. The Cao army won a complete victory, and more than 200,000 Wuhuan people surrendered to the Han. Cao Cao returned from Liucheng, passing by the coast of Bohai, looking at Jieshi from a distance, and wrote the eternal poem 'Jieshi'. 'East to Jieshi, overlooking the sea. How clear the water is, the islands stand tall. The trees are dense, the grass is lush. The autumn wind is bleak, the waves surge. The movement of the sun and the moon, as if coming out of it. The stars are brilliant, as if coming out of it. How fortunate, sing to praise it.'
During the Two Jin Dynasties, the Murong Xianbei rose in Liaoxi, established the 'Three Yan' regime, and Goguryeo occupied the mountains of Liaodong. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the eastern part of Liaoning was occupied by Goguryeo, and the western part of Liaoning experienced the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, and Northern Qi regimes. The collision and merger of these regimes and ethnic groups accelerated economic and cultural exchanges and injected vitality into Chinese culture.
The Sui and Tang unified the country, ending the situation of north-south division that lasted for hundreds of years. Liaoning, which is connected to Youyan, became the frontier for operating the northeast. Here, various ethnic groups live together and cultures blend. It is a place for mutual trade between ethnic groups, a hub for the Central Plains to the northeast, a link for the central dynasty to connect with the ethnic groups in the northeast, and also the political, economic, cultural, and military center and important town in the northeast region.
With the formation of an unprecedented unified situation in history and the close exchanges between Mongols, Han, Jurchens, Goryeo, and Huihui, the culture of Liaoning region flourished. The most outstanding artistic achievement of this period is the tomb murals, which reflect the culture and customs of this region. The Yuan Dynasty rulers adopted a policy of inclusiveness towards various religions. Various sects in Liaoning were flourishing. Christianity and Islam began to spread, Buddhism's influence became increasingly profound, and the power of Taoism's Quanzhen School rapidly developed in Liaoxi.
In the middle of the Hongwu period, the Ming government implemented the policy of 'accommodating soldiers in agriculture', greatly promoted the military garrison, and promoted the recovery and development of Liaoning's agriculture. After the establishment of the Liaodong defense system, a large number of border guards gathered here. The huge material demand drove the prosperity of handicraft production such as iron smelting, porcelain firing, and salt making. Liaoning is the main area for the Ming government to trade with Mongolia, Jurchen, and Korea. A large number of horse markets or wood markets are set up along the border, and goods are widely exchanged. Between the Baishan Heishui, the desert grassland and the Central Plains inland, the sea and land transportation network is dense, goods are supplemented, and it is accessible in all directions, laying the foundation for Liaoning to become a transportation hub in Northeast Asia.
In the late Ming Dynasty, the Jianzhou Jurchen in the eastern mountainous area of Liaoning continued to grow and develop, opening the prelude to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Jurchen people who have lived in Baishan Heishui for nearly 400 years have risen again. In the first year of Tianming (1616), Nurhaci was crowned Khan on the banks of the Suzi River outside Fushun Pass, and the country was named Jin, known as 'Houjin'. After his son Huang Taiji ascended the throne, he changed his clan name to Manchu (abbreviated as Manchu) and changed his country name to Daqing.
After more than 50 years of hard work, from Liaozuo, he drove westward and established the foundation of the Qing Dynasty for 300 years. In the first year of Shunzhi (1644), the Manchus entered the Central Plains and established an unprecedentedly large centralized empire. As the founding base of the Qing Dynasty, Liaoning's status has been further improved, gradually transitioning from a regional administrative capital to the second largest political center in the country. During the Kangxi and Qianlong periods, the Qing government destroyed the Southern Dynasty, pacified the Three Fans, received Taiwan, and settled Xinjiang, successfully resisted the invasion of Tsarist Russia, and ushered in the last glory of the feudal society for more than 2000 years - the Kangxi and Qianlong prosperous times. As the 'land of dragon prosperity' of the Qing Dynasty, Liaoning's politics, economy, religion, and culture have developed in all aspects during the Qing Dynasty, and its prosperity and wealth far exceed the previous generations. Kangxi, Qianlong and other emperors have made several eastward tours to worship their ancestors. During this period, Shengjing City (now Shenyang) has been rebuilt and expanded several times, becoming more magnificent, showing the prosperity and royal style of the accompanying capital.
The rulers of the Qing Dynasty actively absorbed Han culture. Before entering the customs, Nurhaci and Huang Taiji built Confucian temples and worshipped Confucius in Xingjing (now Hetu Ala), Shengjing (now Shenyang), etc., while studying classics and seeking governance. At the same time, they also eliminated cultural barriers. In addition, the creation of new and old Manchu scripts and the appearance of Manchu translation and writing greatly promoted cultural exchanges between Manchu and Han, laying a cultural foundation for the Qing Dynasty to rule the country. During the Kangxi and Qianlong periods, the arrival of a large number of cultural people led to a creative climax of border poems, local poems and travel notes in Liaoning. Under the influence of Central Plains culture, Manchu and Han civilizations influenced each other, and the integration between ethnic groups deepened day by day.

Manchu Folklore Exhibition
Manchu Folklore Exhibition
The Manchu is one of the minority ethnic groups in China today, mainly distributed in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Hebei. The Manchu is a nation with a long history.
Sushen, Yilou, Moji, Moho, and Nuzhen are all inherited. The Manchu people gallop among the lofty mountains and ridges of Baishan and Heishui, following the traditional lifestyle of the fishing and hunting nation. The four seasons change, and everything follows life. In the concept of the Manchu people, man and nature are closely related. The seasons, the weather, the human feelings, and the world affairs all follow the same rhythm, extending in the same space, making the daily life of the Manchu people inherit the ancient customs in the process of cycling, including clothing, food, housing, and transportation. And the four rites of life. In the alternation of brilliance and dimness, the Manchu not only created one myth after another, but also left a wealth of historical memories and brilliant cultural heritage.
