Weekend guide to praying for blessings at Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou and half-day trip around Shanghai.
Because I just bought a new car and I'm nervous about driving it, I plan to go to Lingyin Temple to get a peace talisman and find some comfort. So, taking advantage of the weekend, I arrived in Hangzhou one day early from Shanghai and went up to the temple early the next morning to pray for blessings.
🚉Transportation guide:
Depart from Shanghai, buy high-speed rail tickets at will.
🗓Itinerary review:
At eight o'clock, get up and take a taxi to Lingyin Temple. Head straight to the scenic area and the temple.
Feilai Peak scenic area ticket is 45 yuan. Lingyin Temple is inside Feilai Peak scenic area. Buy Lingyin Temple ticket after entering the scenic area, which costs 30 yuan.
Because our goal is simple, to pray for safety on the car with lucky charms and popular 18-bead bracelets, and to ensure safety. Later, we also bought white jade Bodhi bracelets to protect our careers, hoping that we can all be safe, healthy, and successful in our work.
After entering, each person can receive a free incense. The incense and fire are outside and can be lit from the main entrance of the Daxiong Baodian.
There can be no open flames in the temple, prepare some change to offer golden incense.
We each paid our respects at the main halls, then took advantage of the sparse crowd to descend the mountain. Time was tight, let's come back next time to explore other places~
📝Attention tips:
1️⃣Recently, Lingyin Temple has been very popular and there are a lot of people. It is recommended to go early! There are already many cars around 8:30 am. We returned around 11:30 am and the tunnel was already congested, and there were also many people entering the scenic area.
2️⃣Wearing flat shoes for walking, still a bit tired from head to toe.
3️⃣Go inside the temple to buy prayer beads, all of which have been blessed and are the most authentic and genuine.
4️⃣If you take a taxi there, you can queue up for a taxi or take a bus back. We didn't wait and walked four kilometers back to where we were staying...got some exercise.
When you come to Hangzhou, you must go and see Lingyin Temple!

Autumn Hike at Linyin Mountain
Today was a beautiful lovely autumnal weather in the city to go for a group hike with friends at the Lingyin temple mountain. we started up the mountain by cable. car and saw the ancient temples and Buddha to pray. we then hiked the route down and saw the foliage and stopped to have a picnic of snacks and take group photos .
One of the most famous temple in China
With a history of nearly 1700 years, Lingyin Temple is the oldest and most famous temple in Hangzhou. Located in the luxurious forest, it remains its charm with impressive landscape and Buddhist culture. You can enjoy the towering trees, numerous pagodas and Buddhist grottoes.
Lingyin Temple has a lot, both nature and culture, for you to explore. In spite of crowded tourists in weekends or holidays, the ambience of the entire temple is so peaceful making you relaxed. As the top one of Five Zen Buddhist mountains, Feilai Peak, adjacent to Lingyin Temple is one hot attraction in Huangzhou. It was transported from India according to the legend, so it was called Feilai Peak which means flying peak. Feilai Peak features in uncountable Buddhist carvings lining the riverbanks and hillsides and tucked away inside grottoes. 335 of the all carvings (about 470) are well-preserved and most of them can date from the 10th century.

Temple nested in a beautiful landscape
Lingyin, located in the northwest of the West Lake, Is known as
"Buddhist Kingdom in the Southeast" with pretty hills, clear springs and streams as well as beautiful green trees, many historic relics and caves.
Hidden in the beautiful landscape and ancient trees is the oldest temple in Hangzhou~-Lingyin Temple, which is also called Yunlin Temple. It was first built in 326 AD by the eminent Indian monk Hui Li. With its imposing and magnificent architectural structures, the Temple has remained one of the ten largest Zen Buddhist temples in China. The Temple consists of the Heavenly Guardian Hall, the Hall of Mahavira (Great Hero), the Hall of the Buddha of Medicine, the Hall for Five-Hundred Arhats, the sutra Repository etc. in the Heavenly Guardian Hall stands a statue of Skanda holding a pestle and wearing an austere-looking face.
This 800-year-old sculpture from the early Song Dynasty, 2.5 meters tall, carved out of the trunk of a single camphor tree, is the oldest Buddhist statue extant in Lingyin Temple. At the center of the hall, seated on a lotus-flower pedestal is the statue of Sakyamumi, carved out of twenty-four pieces of camphor wood. This statue with its lotus seat, measuring 24,8 meters in height, is China's largest sitting statue of Buddha at present.

Lingyin Temple, Hangzhou
Lingyin Temple on a rainy day is a quiet and tranquil place, so many twists and turns, alleyways and staircases, all whilst looking absolutely stunning.
My second visit to this beautiful temple was even more intriguing than the first, it's yellow painted buildings popping out from the gound in the mist. The flowers and trees in their autumn state are very unique.
Even the quick drive through the West Lake scenic area was beautiful, trees dropping orange and yellow leaves onto the ground.
Linying is famous for it's carved buddhas, but the buildings and the friendly staff really make this place a needed destination to visit.

Lingyin Temple, also known as Linchan Temple, encompasses 1,700 years of history, and is thought to be the oldest temple in Hangzhou. Located between Feilai Mountain and Beigao Peak, Lingyin Temple boasts a long history and picturesque surroundings. As one of the earliest Buddhist temples in China, it is also one of the country's ten major ancient temples.
The Tiger Jump
Filled with immense amount of water and fertility, the whole province of Zhejiang is super lush green. It also has mountainous regions making it an attractive hiking 🥾 destiny. It can be said that this temple is a tiger jump away🐅, but you gotta a sweat 😅 some to reach this temple. Located inside Lingyin temple, this is preaching point for all new buddhas/monks. The good thing is the steps are not too steep and goes flatten for quite some time before again you need to hike. So it is a perfect mix of hike and relax for us. If you choose to go during holiday it'll be quite rush, you have to plan ahead at that time. #lingyin #hangzhoutravel

Lingyin temple is one of the famous temple that you can visit in West Lake scenic area. To get here you can take the bus. There are several small hills here that you can hike inside and also you have to pay more fee to enter the temple itself
#happynewyear
Lingyin temple is located on a mountain. The best way to go is using private car or public bus. On weekends there have lots of people there. The ticket is not included temple entrance. If you want to go inside the temple, you have to buy the ticket separately.
Lingyin Temple is located in the northwest of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It has a history of more than 1,600 years and is the earliest famous temple in Hangzhou. At that time, the Indian monk Hui Li came to Hangzhou and saw the mountain peaks and beautiful scenery. He thought that it was "the hidden spirit of the souls retreat", so he built a temple here and named it "Ling Yin".
The main buildings in the temple are the Tianwang Hall and the Daxiong Hall. The statue of Maitreya at the entrance to the Heavenly King Hall, the statue of the god of the gods behind the Maitreya Buddha is the work of the Southern Song Dynasty. The Daxiong Hall is 33.6 meters high and is one of the best preserved single-storey temple buildings in China. In the middle of the hall, there is a statue of gold. The statue is carved with fragrant wood, which is fine and solemn. On both sides of the main hall, there are two images of "Twenty Heavens" and "Twelve Circles". They are different in appearance and very lifelike.
Behind the temple, there are three-dimensional sculptures of the island, with more than 150 relics. When Lingyin Temple is covered with snow in winter, it is very serene and beautiful. Lamei with icicles reminds me of candied fruit. Before entering Lingyin Temple, you must first buy tickets for Feilaifeng. You can't bring your own incense when you go in. You will be offered three free incense when you enter the park.

Hangzhou Cuisine Guide
Longjing Shrimp:
Longjing tea leaves and shrimp are full, the overall taste is fresh and tender, refreshing and appetizing, with an endless aftertaste~ But it's not really recommended for those who prefer strong flavors
Dongpo Pork:
The pork is crispy and beautiful, fatty but not greasy,
Those who don't eat sugar can ask the restaurant to add less sugar~
West Lake Vinegar Fish:
Order with caution!! The fishy taste is a bit strong, and many people don't like sweet flavors, this kind of sour and spicy sauce poured on a fish that is both fishy and bland, just thinking about it is not appetizing~
Song Sao Fish Soup:
Each restaurant has its own taste, it's a bit like water, with a sourish taste, a thicker version of chive yellow sour soup, anyway, I don't like it~
Misty Rain in Jiangnan, full of the spirit of spring
I hope this guide can help friends in need~
May Day Travel Destination Recommendation: Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou | May all your wishes come true
Lingyin Temple in the rain is the most Zen-like I've ever seen!||The south has been experiencing continuous rain recently, and Hangzhou is no exception.
Last week, taking advantage of the rain, I went to Lingyin with a friend.
The rainy Lingyin is less crowded and more serene.
Layers of mist float over distant mountains and the lake surface.
The temple exudes ancient Zen charm, with lush greenery all around.
Monks chant sutras, and tourists burn incense with devotion.
Being here feels as if the soul is also purified.
💡Travel Tips:
Feilai Peak → North Peak → Lingshun Temple (God of Wealth Temple) → Taoguang Temple → Yongfu Temple → Lingyin Temple
Spend a day at Lingyin without retracing your steps.
I had a great time around Lingyin.
Traveling in the rainy season, be calm and unhurried.
That's why I chose to stay overnight at Tingjian·Lingyin Aranya Design B&B.
This unique courtyard is hidden in the Lingyin area of West Lake.
Imbued with the sound of morning and evening bells,
the courtyard carries a touch of Buddhist charm and elegance.
Antique and natural, it's a wilderness in the city.
Very convenient for travel, right next to the North Peak cable car.
Taking the cable car up the mountain, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the tea gardens.
Listen to the babbling brooks in the forest and streams,
the soft sound in the empty valley, and savor the rhythm of Longjing tea.
The lush trees invite a leisurely stroll,
slowing down the heart as well.
📷 Photo Tips:
1⃣ For those who want to take photos, it's best to go right when they open at 7 am or after 4:30 pm when there are fewer people and it's easier to get good shots.
2⃣ There's a lot of material to shoot on rainy days, such as raindrops on eaves, the silhouette of passing monks, water dripping from lotus flowers, temple buildings, or plants and trees, but avoid taking pictures of Buddha statues.
3⃣ To capture raindrops, you need a high-speed shutter of 1/1000 or higher, and to capture rain streaks, slow down the shutter to about 1/60-1/100, choosing a dark background will highlight the raindrops more.
4⃣ There are many cats🐱 in Lingyin Temple and the adjacent Yongfu Temple, cat lovers can try their luck.
✅Travel tips:
▪️The rainy season is slippery, be careful when walking and taking photos, wear comfortable sports shoes, there are many steps along the way, or you can choose to take a sightseeing car.
▪️Do not step on the threshold when entering the temple, may we all have no insurmountable obstacles.

When you're in Hangzhou, don't miss out on Ling Yi Temple, also known as the Temple of Soul's Retreat, situated northwest of the West Lake. This temple holds a special place as one of China's most significant Buddhist temples and a hub for exploring Chinese Buddhist culture.
Legend has it that this temple was founded by Huili, an Indian monk, during the Jin Dynasty (317-420 AD), and it gained prominence during the Five Dynasties when it underwent significant expansion under royal patronage as a mark of reverence to Buddha.
Throughout its history, Lingyin Temple has weathered various challenges like wars and religious suppression. Yet, it remains a treasure trove of Buddhist literature and other precious artifacts. Among its highlights is a tablet inscribed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), which visitors can still admire today.
The temple houses a towering statue of Sakyamuni carved from 24 sections of camphor wood, standing at an impressive height of 24.8 meters (82 feet) and adorned with gold leaf. Flanking the statue are twenty saintly figures, believed to be guardians of justice, while twelve disciples stand guard along the rear wall. Their imposing presence leaves a lasting impression on all who behold them.
You'll be amazed by all the incredible sights waiting for you at this temple—it's practically made for Instagram!

Lingyin Temple is located to the west of Hangzhou's West Lake, backed by the North Peak, facing the Feilai Peak, with two peaks flanking it, towering trees, ancient temples in deep mountains, and clouds in myriad forms.
In the past, the most familiar figure associated with Lingyin Temple was the monk Ji Gong. Now, among the popular activities at Lingyin Temple, there is the addition of the prayerful Eighteen Seeds. Moreover, Lingyin Temple is famous simply because it is Lingyin Temple. Founded during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it has a history of more than 1,700 years and is Hangzhou's earliest prestigious temple, also a unique and shining presence among the '480 temples of the Southern Dynasties'.
Currently, the main structures of Lingyin Temple include the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, the Hall of the Medicine Buddha, the Dharma Hall (also known as the Straightforward Hall), and the Avatamsaka Hall, forming the central axis, with the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, the Ji Gong Hall, and the Liandeng Pavilion on either side, making for a grand and orderly construction.

Beyond the Lingyin Temple, I recommend two serene spots for appreciating osmanthus. They are perfect for those who follow the Buddhist way of life, enjoy petting cats, and savor temple coffee.
The Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, whether on ordinary days or holidays, is never tranquil. The diligent Bodhisattvas of Lingyin Temple and its renowned reputation attract a constant stream of pilgrims and tourists.
I recommend two splendid destinations outside Lingyin Temple, both serene and beautiful, accessible from Feilai Peak.
【Yongfu Temple】Yongfu Zen Temple, defined by netizens and photographers as the most beautiful temple, is accessible with a ticket to Feilai Peak. After visiting Lingyin Temple, you can ascend the mountain to see Yongfu Temple. Built along the mountain, the temple's layout is staggered, creating a scenic view with a sense of depth. The mountain is not high, and there are many places to rest during the climb. You can visit the Fuquan Tea House for tea, or try the earliest temple coffee - the Merciful Cup.
【Fayun Lane】and Tea House (Fayun Lane Branch) is a small path inside the high-end Fayun Aman Hotel, which allows tourists to enter. However, if you want to return to Feilai Peak and Lingyin Temple, you need to purchase a new ticket. If you have a park card, you can swipe it back and forth. This road leads to the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy, so you will see many student monks crossing the path, especially in the evening, creating a unique ambiance. On both sides are the guest rooms of Fayun Aman, hidden in the woods. Fayun Lane is home to many cats, which are well-fed and can often be seen near the coffee shops and small restaurants. Additionally, it's the season for osmanthus blossoms in Hangzhou, and there are many osmanthus trees on both sides of Fayun Lane, filling the air with their fragrance.
The hustle and bustle is part of the world,
So is the tranquility.
