Ganden Sumtseling Monastery | Is it a monastery or a temple?
After breakfast at the hotel (Xinxiu. Qionglu Siye Manor), drive to Sumtseling Monastery, arriving at the parking lot at 9:30 am, leave after a 3-hour tour to go to Dukezong Ancient Town for lunch, and head to Napahai Lake for a lake tour around 3 pm, returning to the hotel at 6:30 pm to end the day's journey.
1. Navigate to 'Ganden Sumtseling Monastery Parking Lot', park the car and look around, you can basically find the location of the visitor center, which is near the parking lot. After we parked, several Tibetan compatriots came to sell ethnic clothing, which we politely declined.
2. The ticket mainly includes the round-trip bus fare from the visitor center to the monastery, which is 75 yuan per person. The ticket window staff will ask if you want to add 15 yuan for a guided tour, but it's not necessary. Just follow the tour group once you enter the monastery.
3. If you have time, follow the guide and listen to the explanations, there is a lot of information, and many interesting facts, such as, one staff member mentioned that Sumtseling Monastery is a 'monastery' not a 'temple'. There is a big difference between the two: a temple is a place for burning incense and worshiping Buddha, while a monastery is a place for monks to study and practice.
4. Walking forward from the entrance of the monastery is a small road, the white houses on both sides are the monks' residences, equipped with various modern facilities, and the living conditions should be considered affluent. At the end of the road is a long flight of stairs, climbing up leads to the main hall of the monastery. It's important to note that the altitude here is probably around 3400 meters, so don't exert yourself too much, and be sure to protect yourself from the sun. When we climbed, it was nearly noon and there was almost no shade on this stretch of stairs.
5. After reaching the platform in front of the main hall, we entered each of the large halls in turn, from left to right, in a clockwise direction. One of them (there are three in total, this should be the left/west one) has a platform on a higher level where you can take photos and see the Shika Snow Mountain. We went into each hall, which took some time, but if you're short on time, you can just visit the main hall in the middle.
6. After coming down from the main hall, take the bus back to the visitor center and parking lot. On the way, you will pass by a stop at the side of Lamuyangtso Lake (on the map 'Pilgrimage to Sumtseling Monastery Panorama'), where you can take a panoramic photo of Sumtseling Monastery. We were not sure if we could get back on the bus after getting off (it should be possible, you can confirm with the driver), so we didn't get off. If you have enough time and the weather is good, you can go down for a photo.
7. After returning to the parking lot, navigate to Dukezong Ancient Town for lunch and a rest.

🚗Traffic strategy: Since the altitude of Shangri-La is around 3300 meters, some people may experience symptoms of altitude sickness, so it is recommended to travel from Kunming-Dali-Lijiang-Shangri-La, gradually adapting to the altitude will be more comfortable. The transportation is currently very convenient: buses, high-speed trains, and airplanes can all reach directly, and these stations are very close to the homestay, basically about a ten-minute drive. What's more considerate is that the homestay provides a free pick-up service, so you don't have to worry about getting lost when you come for the first time and going in circles, which is really commendable👍
🌟Highlights: I really love the decoration style of the homestay, which is simple and atmospheric, with a very open view, matching the outside grassland, making one feel incredibly relaxed! Every night of the stay there are fresh welcome fruits, with a very rich variety, and free afternoon tea is provided (coffee➕cake🍰). Not to mention the breakfast is very considerate, with coffee, porridge, butter tea, hot milk, highland barley cakes, bread, fruits, vegetables, and it's very plentiful! The service of the homestay is also a highlight. Whether it's the little brother who picks up and drops off, or the housekeeper and the room service sisters inside, everyone makes you feel very kind. They really take care of you like family, which is the best service experience I've had in a homestay of the same price range! They also have many cute and friendly animals, including three charming Alaskan dogs, very gentle and adorable, two stylish Shetland ponies, several cute little sheep, and two black swans and Khaki Campbell ducks leisurely swimming in the lake in the middle of the yard. ⛱Hotel environment: The homestay is located inside the Napahai Scenic Area, so there's no need to buy a ticket. Upon check-in, the housekeeper will send you a Napahai Lake tour strategy. It's surrounded by pastures, with a large wetland area, and in the evening, you can see geese flying in neat formations overhead. Not far away, there is a large group of yaks and horses. The ecological environment is well protected, and you can even see the national first-class protected animal: the black-necked crane! It's worth it!
💰Average cost: The average room price is 1000+, but compared to most homestays of the same price range in China, the value for money is very high! It's worth much more than what you pay for! Especially the scenery outside the window framed by the window, it's a kind of happiness that you have to spend money to get🎉

The Uninhabitable Homestay in Shangri-La | Once you stay, you won't want to leave home
With my longing for Shangri-La, I embarked on my journey. As soon as I got off the plane, I was greeted by the warm smile of the homestay butler and the complimentary airport pickup service, which instantly made me feel the enthusiasm and thoughtfulness of this earthly paradise.
🚗 Driving along the winding road towards Napahai, the view outside the window gradually changed from steep ridges to vast grasslands, like a thick and heavy oil painting. The moment I arrived at the homestay, the scene before my eyes was striking: this dwelling by the shore of Napahai, with each room seemingly embedded into nature's canvas, offered a flowing landscape blockbuster through the floor-to-ceiling windows, with the vast grassland, the glittering lake surface, and the rolling snow-capped mountains forming an absolutely beautiful picture.
Ranch life was a highlight of this trip. In the early morning, the sun sprinkled across the grassland, and my family and I strolled on the Napahai grassland. The ecological environment here is excellent, with various adorable animals coexisting harmoniously. The short-legged horses leisurely chewed on the tender grass, the amiable Alaskan dogs ran and played with us; the little sheep huddled together, like cotton candy dots on the green carpet; there were also lively Col ducks tracing elegant arcs on the water, and noble black swans enjoying themselves by the shore, all composing a vivid pastoral poem.
The homestay is fully equipped with facilities, not only offering excellent viewpoints that seamlessly connect with nature but also a variety of leisure activities for tourists to participate in. We hand-fed the small animals on the ranch, feeling the joy of harmonious coexistence with nature; at night, we sat around the stove, gazing at the starry sky, listening to the Tibetan grandmother recount ancient legends, which was captivating.
I must praise the homestay owner's ingenuity and meticulous service for this trip to Napahai in Shangri-La. The homestay is located inside the Napahai Scenic Area~ with a uniquely advantageous geographical position~
The homestay has two dogs🐶, one named Xiaoqi, and the other named Coffee, both Alaskan dogs! 🐶 They are extremely cute, and the dogs chase the sheep around all day long, which is super fun !
