Xiamen|For this hotel, I set foot on this island
-
Before coming to Gulangyu,
In my impression, it has always been a controversial island,
Over-commercialized, it is a gradually forgotten literary island
But Qishang Rong House let me step into the B-side of Gulangyu
Like opening a colorful and exquisite scroll
-
Taking the ferry, passing through the bustling crowd,
Climbing the steps, heading to the highest point of Gulangyu,
A red house, Qishang Rong House is hidden here,
With a corridor-style design, each room has an independent courtyard,
Listening to the rustling of leaves, the sound of cicadas
It seems to be softly singing the hot summer
Vines grow wildly, bricks and tiles are restored,
Four banyan trees quietly witness the century-old history of this red house
After the renovation, Qishang Rong House
Also pays more attention to the relationship between nature and architecture
-
I really like the local guide service of Rong House,
The housekeeper's detailed explanation shows his love for this land
Away from the noisy commercial area, stepping into a quiet, ancient alley
This is the B-side of Gulangyu,
Each building has its own story and history,
Worthy of your pause, to savor carefully,
-
I think because of Qishang Rong House,
I am willing to set foot on Xiamen and Gulangyu again and again

Qishang Rong House
📍No. 9 Xinghua Road, Gulangyu, Siming District, Xiamen, Fujian
🌟Located on Yanwei Mountain, a world intangible cultural heritage site, it is a tranquil paradise amidst the bustling city. The century-old "Four Banyan Villa" was built in 1920, and its name comes from the century-old banyan trees surrounding the building. The renovation was handled by the master architect Tang Jiansong, who preserved its unique and independent new look.
🌟The exterior still retains the red brick corridors, with banyan trees entwining and extending on the exterior walls, forming a unique and charming landscape. The circular pool in front of the courtyard cleverly integrates with the building, reflecting the villa in the water and creating a serene atmosphere.
🌟Inside the Rong House, there is also the most beautiful bookstore, where many internet celebrities have taken stunning photos. It is also one of the filming locations for Ethan Juan.
🌟This is an art space that highly integrates contemporary art, local culture, and Nanyang architectural style. After 19 years of protection and renovation, it has finally officially met the public, redefining the ultimate experience of mansion living.

Lohkah Isle at Qi Shang Banyan House | Fun, Photogenic, and Full of New Year's Flavor.
Chirping and chattering, murmuring and muttering
In the courtyard of the Banyan House,
Under the banyan tree, by the pond, at the treetops...
It is said that birds are sentient, preferring quiet over noise, sensing safety and danger. There are fewer birds nesting in the city compared to the old districts, but on Gulangyu Island, it is a major destination for birds to build nests and settle down. There are many bird nests on Gulangyu Island, with swallow nests being the most numerous.
What visitors don't see is the birds' secret garden. The West-facing Swallowtail Ecological Park, with its lush greenery, often attracts migratory birds for a stopover. Guests who have visited the Banyan House joked that the natural morning alarm clock is the 'friends' chirping and chattering, murmuring and muttering in the courtyard.
'Gulangyu Encyclopedia' Swallow Nest Edition
Across from No. 169 Neicuo'ao, there is an 'old house' of a swallow, built by a pair of swallows about 10 years ago. This excited Mr. Huang and his family. At that time, the swallow nest was only supported by an electric wire, and Mr. Huang, worried about its stability, specially installed a support bracket underneath. He also laid newspapers under the nest daily to clean up bird droppings and often hid in the shadows to record the scenes of the swallow parents feeding their babies.
However, in 2005, the swallow family encountered a sad event. The swallow couple had three more chicks, and children living nearby came to raid the nest, catching the chicks, which led to their subsequent death. The swallow parents returned and mourned ceaselessly before finally leaving for good. Mr. Huang waited for many years, but his wish was never fulfilled.
Until two years ago, Mr. Huang took an interest in cleaning the nest again and found a half-smoked cigarette butt inside. He thought, perhaps the swallows didn't return because of the cigarette butt? To his excitement, in the spring of 2012, the swallow couple indeed came back!
