Quanzhou Luoyang Bridge is China's first cross-sea Dashi Bridge. It was built in 1053 and it took six years to complete. The stone bridge is 1,200 meters long and 5 meters wide. There are 44 piers and there are handrails on both sides of the bridge. After thousands of years of wind and rain, there are only 31 bridge piers left in Shiqiao, which is 1188 meters long. At the time of the bridge, the craftsmen thought of using the specialty of Quanzhou, the oyster. Oysters are characterized by two shells, one shell attached to the rock or another oyster, which are joined together, and the other shell is covered with its own software. Moreover, the oysters have a strong ability to reproduce, and they are not perforated. Once they are glued with the stone, they can not be shoveled with a shovel. Craftsmen facilitate the use of this characteristic of oysters to consolidate the bridge base. In a few years, the oysters connected scattered stones and stones into a whole. Luoyang Bridge has not been scattered for thousands of years. It can be said that oysters have played a huge role, of course, because of the wisdom of artisans. This design is a major innovation in the history of architecture.

Today, I walked down to Luoyang Bridge and my mom took a picture for me. This is the pioneer of the "skull-shaped foundation" in modern bridge engineering. It was initiated by Cai Yu, the great calligrapher of the Song Dynasty in Quanzhou County. However, his "Wananqiao" inscription, I forgot to read it, ah ah ah Ah, OCD patients will probably come again later.

Centuries ago, the ancients had already constructed bridges that spanned the sea, revealing my ignorance
The Luoyang Bridge in Quanzhou, which connects the Taiwanese Business Investment Area with the Luojiang District, is situated above the Luoyang River waterway. It is also a famous sea-crossing beam-style stone bridge, known as 'the number one bridge under the heavens' and is one of the 'Four Great Ancient Bridges'.
In 2021, the 'World Maritime Trade Center of Song-Yuan China' was approved by the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee, and Luoyang Bridge was included in the 'World Cultural Heritage List', becoming China's 56th World Heritage Site.
Luoyang Bridge has many significant achievements in bridge construction technology, with the three most important being the 'raft foundation' method, the 'oyster cultivation foundation solidification' method, and the 'floating transport suspension bridge' method.
At the time when Luoyang Bridge, this sea-crossing bridge, was completed, Europe had yet to see a sea-crossing stone bridge. Today, the oldest existing stone bridge across a river in Europe is the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy, which was completed in 1345, 286 years after the Luoyang Bridge.

Quanzhou·Huian Luoyang Bridge
Huian Luoyang Bridge, formerly known as "Wan'an Bridge", was built during the Northern Song Dynasty and is the oldest existing sea-crossing beam stone bridge in China. It is also one of the more low-key attractions in Quanzhou. You can reach Wan'an Village on the east side of the bridge by taking a bus from the prefectural city, where there is a shrine built for Cai Xiang, the builder of the bridge. As a court official who served the country and the people, he was truly a loyal and righteous person. In addition, the village also has the Ciji Palace and a museum, where you can get a glimpse of the cultural heritage of Luoyang Bridge. The stone bridge is very long, with sculptures and inscriptions on top, and mangrove wetlands full of small crabs and birds below, while the bridge's foundation is reinforced with cultivated oysters. Walking on the uneven stone bridge, following the steps of the ancients, and imagining the daily life of Quanzhou people who farmed and did business in that era, it feels as if you are there.

Standing on the ancient bridge, I watch birds fly and trees sway, feeling the tranquility of the passing years
The Luoyang Bridge in Quanzhou, along with the Guangji Bridge in Chaozhou, the Zhaozhou Bridge in Shijiazhuang, and the Lugou Bridge in Beijing, are collectively known as the four great ancient bridges of China. Initially, we came here because of its fame, but when we saw the ancient bridge coexisting harmoniously with its surroundings, a phrase came to mind: 'the tranquility of the passing years'.
【Appearance】The Luoyang Bridge is located at the confluence of the river and sea in Quanzhou. It was built over nine hundred years ago as a kilometer-long sea-crossing bridge. Despite the battering of waves and the changes of time, the bridge has been well-restored, with a current length of 834 meters and a width of 7 meters, and a total of 46 intact piers. The most classic feature is the bridge deck made of stone slabs, each 11 meters long, 1 meter wide, and 0.8 meters thick. Experts on the internet, how was such construction carried out in ancient times without cranes?
【Surroundings】Around the Luoyang Bridge, there are numerous steles from different dynasties, and the pavilions, pagodas, and statues on the bridge are all cultural relics; beneath the ancient bridge is the estuary of the Luoyang River, where vibrant mangroves thrive, nurturing various migratory birds.
【Local Customs】We visited in early spring when the river was shallow, but small boats would still occasionally come by. Fishermen would jump into the shallow water to collect oysters attached to the bridge piers and then wait at the bridgehead to open and sell them; at the southwest end of the bridge, there is a bridge market street with coffee bars and water bars for tourists to rest and chat, creating a calm and gentle environment.
📍Specific location: At the junction of Qiaonan Village in Luojiang District, Quanzhou City, and Luoyang Town in Hui'an County, also at the estuary of the Luoyang River
💰Ticket information: Free
⏱Opening hours: All day, the visiting time can be tentatively set for 1 hour
🚒Travel tips: We took a ride-hailing car from the West Lake in Quanzhou City to navigate to the Luoyang Bridge, costing a total of 24 yuan

I experienced my first 'You Shen' in Quanzhou
🌈 'You Shen' is a traditional folk custom in the southeastern coastal areas, which started in the Southern Song Dynasty. During the New Year, festive holidays, or the birthdays of various gods, the deities of all sizes are invited out of the temples to tour around the region. Firecrackers are set off in every household they pass by, as a way to drive away evil spirits and pray for blessings‼️
🌟 At Luoyang Bridge, it was my first time experiencing 'You Shen'. It was truly a joyous occasion for both gods and humans, with loud gongs and drums, and firecrackers accompanying us along the way🧨. It's been a long time since I've seen such a lively event, the atmosphere was bursting with excitement, and the festive spirit was in full swing‼️
⚠️ Luoyang Bridge is divided into Qiaonan Village and Luoyang Village, so I was very lucky to participate in the 'You Shen' event twice in one day, in the afternoon at Qiaonan Village, and in the evening at Luoyang Village☺️

What have you missed about Quanzhou Luoyang Bridge? An article to understand the first bridge in the sea
Famous Taiwanese writer Yu Guangzhong, who is originally from Quanzhou, once wrote a poem for Luoyang Bridge:
How many springs have the thornbush flowers bloomed, how many years have the east and west towers been looking at each other, how many people have walked over Luoyang Bridge, how many ships have sailed out of Quanzhou Bay, now it's my turn to walk on the bridge, from the ancient banyan at the bridgehead to the north bank, from Caigong Temple to Caigong stone statue, one foot stepped on the Northern Song Dynasty......
Luoyang Bridge is the earliest existing sea-crossing beam stone bridge, known as the first bridge in the sea, a world cultural heritage. In the fifth year of Huangyou of the Song Dynasty (1053), Cai Xiang, the governor of Quanzhou, presided over the construction
In the Ming Wanli earthquake, Quanzhou, apart from the east and west towers of Kaiyuan Temple, only Luoyang Bridge was intact. So there is a saying in Quanzhou: stand like the east and west towers, lie like Luoyang Bridge
Luoyang Bridge is not only a bridge, but also a historical and cultural heritage area! Today we recommend a citywalk walking route from south to north across Luoyang Bridge
Caigong Temple, there is a couplet at the door: Driving the bridge, the world is old, leaving the pen, the ghosts and gods are shocked
There are traditional clay sculptures of the three kings. The three kings are peonies, phoenixes, and unicorns. But these are invisible in the world. The three little kings are lions, golden chickens, and roses
On the right side of the statue of Cai Xiang in the temple, there is a Wan'an Bridge record stele (i.e., Luoyang Bridge), one of the ten three absolute steles. The inscription is concise, the calligraphy is exquisite, and the carving is vivid, which is the three absolute. The words were written by Cai Xiang himself, and the most famous Shangguan family carved it at that time
On both sides there is a couplet: Five admonitions to the country, the past fragrance type hangs in the history book; Wan'an saves the people, the ancient road of this morning is solemnly watched. The signature is written by Ouyang Xiu
There is a small hall in the back, which displays a large number of stone bridge components and stone carvings
Qing Dynasty official style mansion, the standard appearance of old houses in Quanzhou, with brick carvings on both sides
The Land Temple is unique. The Land Temple and the boulder are integrated. The statue of the Land God is carved on the boulder, and then the temple is built in front of the boulder
Liu's ancestral hall, the entire village where the ancestral hall is located is surnamed Liu. The stone carvings of the ancestral hall are unique, with four stories of loyalty, filial piety, chastity, and righteousness. They are Zhuge Jinbiao, Wang Yunsiqin, Su Wumuyang, and Qinhe Huanxiang. Carved on both sides above the gate
Yuqing Building, a very exquisite Fanzi Building. Can visit freely
The bridgehead and the approach bridge, there are two stone towers on the left and right of the bridgehead, built with the bridge
There is a small island called Zhongting at the end of the approach bridge, which is where the ancient Wan'an Ferry is located. There used to be many archways, stone towers, stone tablets, and cliff carvings here. It records various stories and reputations of Luoyang Bridge, and there are still many left
Luoyang Bridge Main Bridge
The piers of Luoyang Bridge are like ship heads, which can reduce the impact of water flow. There is a raft foundation underwater, and a large number of oysters breed in the stone cracks to consolidate the foundation and piers. When Luoyang Bridge was built, it was said that Cai Xiang wrote a letter, ordering the sea water to ebb for three days to lay the foundation
The body of the bridge is built with large stones, more than 8 meters long and 0.6 meters thick
Moonlight Bodhisattva, there is a treasure box printing tower on the side of the bridge body, which is only available in the Song Dynasty. On the side of the tower facing the water surface, you can see a very beautiful image of the Moonlight Bodhisattva
