A visit to Meteora-Greece and the monasteries offer a unique perspective of nature’s grandeur in conjunction with history, architecture, and man’s everlasting desire to connect with the Divine. From the early Christian times, the cliffs of Meteora were regarded as a perfect place to achieve absolute isolation. A place for people to find peace and harmony and, thus, to support mankind’s’ eternal struggle for spiritual ascension.
Meteora today is the largest archaeological site of Greece in terms of the area that it covers. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989 and an official holy place for Greece since 1995. A vast complex of giant rock pillars with monasteries made on the picks of the sandstone cliffs centuries ago creates a truly surreal landscape found nowhere else in the world!

Amazing place! The pictures don't do it justice. As good a place to visit, as any of the Greek islands. The views are magical. The locals are welcoming and unlike most people in most tourist bound areas in Greece, they are not always trying to sell you something. To top it off, the food is fantastic. The locals spare no expense to produce authentic Greek delicacies, the way grandma used to make.

Greek Meteora: The real version of the city of the sky
Speaking of Greece Are you familiar with Athens and Santorini? However, there are actually many fun secrets here. Meteora is one of them. There are many monasteries built on the cliffs, so it is also called the city of the sky.
Playing Meteora usually goes to Kalambaka first, then uses public transportation/hiking, or self-driving. There are 6 monasteries open to the public. To visit each monastery, you must buy a ticket for 3 Euros. Personally feel that if you are not particularly interested in this, just buy a ticket to visit the biggest one, that is, Great Meteora feels good, there is a historical source of the monastery.
There are four bus times from Kalambaka to Meteora, the earliest is 09

Monasteries built on the top of a rocky mountain about 600m high that towers into the sky.
In the 14th century, there were about 24 monasteries in the Thessaly plain in central Greece, but only about 6 are still active today.
The floating monasteries, born from the fusion of the power of nature and faith, are truly impressive.
The interior of the church is a treasure trove of Byzantine art with glittering frescoes and icons (holy paintings).

“Leading” Greece - The “Sky City” of Meteora.
【Introduction】: Meteora, meaning “suspended in the air” or “above the sky,” is a term used to describe a unique geological formation on the northwestern edge of the Thessalian Plain. It is near the Peneus River and the Pindus Mountains, where massive gray pillars rise from the lush valleys, acting as a barrier between the divine and the mortal realms. The geological formation of Meteora is difficult to explain; they are not volcanic plugs made of hard igneous rock commonly found elsewhere, but rather sandstone and conglomerate that have been weathered and eroded over millions of years. While similar rock formations and weathering processes have occurred in many other places around the world, what makes Meteora unique is the very uniform composition of the deposited rocks, leaving very few vertical fault lines, making the surface of the rock pillars appear more complete.
Among the six existing monasteries, the Holy Monastery of Great Meteora is the largest and oldest. In the mid-14th century, a few hermits from Mount Athos built this monastery on the cliffs to escape political upheaval, calling it the “Suspended Monastery.” They fully controlled the entrance to the monastery and would retract the rope ladder whenever they felt threatened from the outside world. The main church in the monastery is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Jesus. The second largest monastery is the Holy Monastery of Varlaam, built in the mid-16th century, located opposite the Holy Monastery of Great Meteora. The “square cross-in-square” main church has a dome and a spacious narthex. The most difficult to reach is the Monastery of Holy Trinity, perched atop a giant rock and built in 1475. From here, one can overlook the magnificent Thessalian Valley and truly understand the meaning of “the most beautiful scenery is found on the perilous peaks.”

The Greek city of the sky "Meyola"
Meyola is a "city hanging in the sky" in Greek, and also the center of the Orthodox Church. The pilgrimage site of all believers is also the monk. A place to work hard. Nowadays it has become a very famous world heritage, and visitors are constantly coming.
There are six monasteries in existence, this time visiting the convent of St. Varam. There are already bridges at the entrance for tourists to cross. In ancient times, it was completely rock climbing to reach. I took a very interesting picture and the dog was transported in the hanging basket. You can experience the work of the cable basket in the cabin on the top floor. The first picture of the plane can take a panoramic view and can hold five monasteries.
There are quite a few stray cats and dogs in the scenic area. I met a cat and dog fight and ended up defeating Wang Xingren. There are also souvenir stalls at the entrance, which are not popular.
It is recommended to go to and stay in the summer for a night, and the winter experience is lower in the mountains.
sally.
In Greek, Meteora itself means hanging in the air. The monasteries standing on the top of these clouds are actually built at the end of the fourteenth century by monks who want to avoid the persecution of Turkish Islam.
Before the construction of these monasteries, there were already monks risking to fall into the mountains, climbing up the peak with ropes, burrowing in the narrow gaps of the hanging walls, and now they can see some of them. A room that is cultivated in a cave. They stayed on the isolated peaks for a long time, and only went down on Sundays or special days. Later, the monks used long ladders of ladders and large nets to transport all the building materials little by little. Their dedication and piety were obvious to all, because everything was carried by the basket on their backs. carry out.
These great ascetic people lived on dangerous rocks, built a place close to heaven in Meteora, desperately escaping from the temptations of reality, away from the world of morality in their eyes. The hermits continue to pray, endure the incredible mental pressure and the almost irresistible desire of the soul, trying to talk to God and thinking that they are directly and closely connected with the creator. These insignificant people have made tremendous efforts, but they have never explained too much to those who have not heard or experienced the deep call.
