Exquisite Romantic Dinner
It's the anniversary of meeting my husband, so we definitely need to have a romantic dinner to celebrate. We took a stroll along the waterfront near Kwun Tong Promenade, and then had a delicate and delicious romantic dinner at MG Cafe right across from it!
The restaurant's ambiance is not only comfortable but also stylishly decorated with a European retro vibe. There are also many coffee cup decorations around, so my husband praised me for choosing a great restaurant as soon as we walked in.
We ordered a 6-course Dinner Set, and just looking at the menu was already very appealing.
We started with two special drinks (we upgraded from the regular beverage), one was Pineapple Oolong Shaken Tea, and the other was Peach Shaken Tea. Besides being perfect for a photo op, they tasted great too.
Then came two French appetizers, one was a fluorescent squid tart and the other was a green pepper and preserved egg tart. Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive at first, but they turned out to be quite unique. I personally preferred the green pepper and preserved egg tart; it was interesting to see Chinese ingredients combined with Western cooking methods, definitely a pleasant surprise.
Next was the starter, featuring black truffle, fish maw, and fresh Hokkaido scallops. It was my first time trying fish maw cooked in a Western style, and I didn't expect it to pair so well with black truffle. The fish maw was thick, and together with the sweet scallops, it was just right for my taste.
Another dish was marinated Hokkaido scallop sashimi with sea urchin, salmon roe, and apple foam. It was a bit like jelly, and the white apple foam, along with the textured scallop sashimi and sea urchin, salmon roe, offered a rich layer of flavors and textures.
Then came the soup, hazelnut, roasted cauliflower cream soup. The soup was smooth, with a rich flavor of hazelnuts and nuts, and the roasted cauliflower complemented it well; I really liked it.
Next was the pasta, starting with fresh clam and cherry tomato Sardinian pearl pasta. The presentation was beautiful, and the abundance of cherry tomatoes and sweet clam meat was refreshing. The highlight was definitely the pearl pasta, which was chewy and fun to eat with the sauce.
Another pasta dish was traditional pork sauce handcrafted Sardinian gnocchetti. The handmade, thick pasta with traditional pork sauce and a hint of tomato cheese sauce was a hit with my husband, who loves rich flavors.
My main course was Duroc pork saddle with black pepper sauce. The pork saddle was thickly cut, tender, and juicy, and the black pepper sauce complemented it well, with a balanced saltiness. But don't miss the pumpkin puree, which was refreshing and palate-cleansing.
My husband's main course was Australian lamb chops with lamb saddle and lamb jus. The meat was tender and juicy, cooked to seal in the juices, with a rich and smooth texture, and no gamey taste at all. Paired with the jus, it was an excellent taste experience.
We ended the dinner perfectly with a creamy and delicious cheese mousse cake with strawberry sauce.
