Hong Kong: Monster Building Marvel 👀🇭🇰
I stumbled upon Quarry Bay's Monster Building during a spur-of-the-moment visit, thanks to my adventurous friends who insisted we explore it before our flight. And oh boy, am I glad we did!
Navigating our way through the bustling streets, we finally arrived at this architectural wonder after a short walk from the MTR station. A friendly local noticed our curious gazes and kindly directed us to the stairs leading to the building's entrance.
Standing before the imposing yet captivating structure, we couldn't resist snapping some photos like many others who were also there. It's worth noting that while the Monster Building is a must-see, it's still private property. So, remember to be respectful, keep noise to a minimum, and adhere to the rules posted, including no drones allowed.
Visiting this unique landmark was truly an unforgettable experience, adding another layer of wonder to my Hong Kong adventure. Make sure to add it to your itinerary and soak in the marvel of the Monster Building! #QuarryBayMarvel #HongKongHiddenGem #MonsterBuildingDiscovery #quarrybay #hk

Hong Kong's 1960s architecture, the filming location for Transformers, 'Monster Building'
Hong Kong's 1960s architecture, the filming location for Transformers, 'Monster Building' Hong Kong street view.
Yick Cheong Building, also known as the Monster Building, is a complex of buildings located between Quarry Bay and Tai Koo on Hong Kong Island, consisting of five blocks. It was once a filming location for the movie 'Transformers 4', famous for its cramped spatial feel. The building can offer unexpected views when seen from different angles and in different weather conditions, and I hope you will like this collection of photos.
The Monster Building is a complex formed by five buildings arranged in an E-shape, which gained fame as a filming location for 'Transformers'. Its massive structure and the dense appearance from the outside have led people to call it the 'Monster Building', where you can completely find the taste of old Hong Kong from the 60s.
The densely packed high-rises present a stunning, mysterious, and oppressive feel, with the pressure of living in a place where every inch of land is worth its weight in gold.
TIPS: 100 meters to the left from Exit B of Tai Koo Station, the best time for photography: 6-7 pm in the evening.
For this set of photos! I walked 30,000 steps in Hong Kong with my camera
The dense skyscrapers, the endless stream of people and vehicles...
I just love the street scenes of Hong Kong, it's like stepping into a Hong Kong movie.
Wandering the streets, I captured more than just these images.
Here's a must-shoot list of spots 📷, highly recommended to save!!
-
1. Kennedy Town
There are many streets leading to the sea, but the place where you can see the TVB minibus, the Ding Ding tram🚎, and the sunset seascape at the same time is here. Take the subway🚇 to Kennedy Town station exit C, look through the basketball court's chain-link fence, and even if many people have taken photos here, you have to get your own shot 📷.
-
2. Monster Building
🚇Island Line Quarry Bay 🧭Search for 'Monster Building' or Yick Cheong Building. The residential buildings here are very Hong Kong, surrounded by skyscrapers, giving a 3D magical world feeling~
-
3. North Point Fire Station
I regret not bringing an ultra-wide-angle lens. The pink checkerboard buildings and the red taxis are very eye-catching on the street, and it's that kind of comfort that satisfies my OCD!!
-
4. Arsenal Street
The Ding Ding tram and the mix of old and new architecture, just stand on the overpass and you can easily take great photos 📷. The characters on the road, full of Hong Kong style~
-
5. Sai Ying Pun Street
The church on the hillside⛪️, on an overpass in Sai Ying Pun, walking through several blocks all the way, it's great for taking photos. Both looking down the slope and looking up are perfect for shots 📷.
Life advice, finish this one-day tour route before leaving Hong Kong
As the Spring Festival is approaching, it's time to relax and have fun~
Since Guangzhou is adjacent to Hong Kong, I have walked this route 800 times from childhood to adulthood!
I recommend this most Hong Kong-style one-day citywalk to you~
🚩Itinerary: Monster Building - Methodist House - Central - Sai Ying Pun - Kennedy Town - Temple Street Night Market
🔸Monster Building
This is the Shanhai Building where Transformers was filmed, known as the Monster Building
The old E-shaped architectural structure and the huge building form a visually oppressive dense space
🚄Exit A of Quarry Bay Station (Island Line)
🔸Methodist House
From the pedestrian overpass opposite the building, you can see the Methodist House in the middle of the road forming a symmetrical structure with the environment, which is extremely comfortable for OCD!
🚄Exit A of Admiralty Station (Island Line)
🔸Central
Walking and taking photos in Central, the bustling CBD, the busy crowd, the full-flavored tram, all are showing you the Hong Kong style
Note that the once popular clock machine position is gone, the clock is dismantled, I don't know if it will be installed again~
There are Gage Street, Fringe Club, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, etc. in this area
🚄Exit A of Admiralty Station (Island Line)
·
🔸Sai Ying Pun
If Central is a commercial CBD area, then Sai Ying Pun is a Hong Kong-style fireworks
The wrong street, the near-sea view, gives this place a lot of special visuals
🚄Sai Ying Pun Station (Island Line)
🔸Kennedy Town
At Exit C of Kennedy Town MTR Station, you can find the popular photo spot that combines the elements of the street, tram, ferry, and sea
After taking the photos, walk towards the sea and feel the breeze, it's really comfortable
🚄Exit C of Kennedy Town (Island Line)
🔸Temple Street Night Market
If you need to return to West Kowloon, you can get off at Jordan Station on the way back to West Kowloon, and you can pass by Temple Street Night Market, which is suitable for shopping and eating, and tasting authentic Hong Kong snacks
Temple Street is also decorated with a very festive atmosphere during this period!
🚄Jordan Station (Tsuen Wan Line)
Monster Building
#fallingseason
This is the building for residential housing in the old Hong Kong where people live in a complex area. It represents the image of Hong Kong where everything are small due to high density of population. The unique structure of the building has attracted thousands of visitors to feel the atmosphere surrounded by the buildings. The unique design also represents an image of general Hong Kong style structure back in the 60s and 70s. The appearance might look old but the shops at the ground of the building show the modernisation of Hong Kong where you would find a popular cafe to enjoy coffee and snacks.
Worry less, smile more 😁❤️

One of the newly arising attraction in Hongkong is the ginormous Monster Building!!! 🏫🏫🏫
It's actually a residential complex composed of five connecting structures namely: Montane Mansion, Oceanic Mansion, Fook Cheong building, Yick Fat Building and Yick Cheong Building. It was built on 1960's to offer government-subsidized housing for low-income earners.
Be mesmerized with this giant structure but do not forget people still lives here so be mindful with the noise when you visit.

Amazing architecture - Monster Building
The monster building is truly one of a kind. The design is simple but yet interesting and beautiful. The building is a little outdated and needs a lot of repairs but I think that's what makes the monster building so remarkable. One can capture so many great pictures for your moments and you can easily spend more than an half hour just staring and adoring the design of the building. Definitely a must see attraction when visiting Hong Kong.
The metro (Quarry Bay) station is also not that far, you can walk to the site and back to the metro again or you can choose to spend some time in the area because it's really interesting and there are lots to do in the area. #monsterbuilding #hongkong
A day in Monster Building 🤩
It’s my first visit to Hong Kong. I saw Alan Walker music video “Sing me to sleep” and then I decided to visit this place 😍
it’s incredible to see an amazing Structure in such a small place. In the night building looks more incredible with colours.
I just spend evening at this place🥰 everyone must appreciate the design 😇#mosterbuilding #architect #hongkong #hongkongtrip
Times Square & Monster Building in Hong Kong
Visit Causeway Bay and you can find any myriad of Designer Brands from Celine, Dior, Chanel and even Name brands like Nike all under one roof. I went during CNY and they had a lantern booth nearby the booth. I moved on to Monster Building to see why it was so aptly named. You must visit yourself to take a picture

The Monster Building is also known as Giant Building. Consisting of five buildings, it is built in the shape of the letter E. This is a favorite spot among photography enthusiasts. The densely-packed buildings here have developed into the famous concrete jungle of Hong Kong. This is not a public place, so try to not disturb the residents while you take photos.
Hong Kong is a huge metropolis that you can easily get lost in. Towering buildings, narrow alleyways and busy streets are what make this place so unique.
With an iconic skyline and so many incredible photo opportunities, Hong Kong is absolutely high on our list for most Instagrammable place. There’s Victoria Peak for an amazing panoramic view with the entire skyline of Hong Kong, the incredibly dense and stacked residential complexes of Quarry Bay being featured in lots of movies and being Hong Kong’s most famous Instagram spot of all, Choi Hung Estate known for it’s basketball rainbow field, and so many more you can’t miss!
Quarry Bay has become increasingly popular over the past few years, and offers a glimpse as to the meaning of the sheer density of the city.

Hong Kong is a city we always love to revisit! There is always something new to explore every single time - new restaurants, viewpoints, … it never gets boring
The fantasy space between Quarry Bay "Haishan Building" and "Fuchang Building"!
5 building, seamount, seascape, Yichang, Yifa, Fuchang, the sky is framed into a rectangle, the vertical space is closely arranged with each floor of the balcony, air conditioning and drying racks... ...
The movie "Variation King Kong 4" makes this ordinary residential and residential building that was originally ordinary to use a fire! So, countless tourists made a special trip to punch in!
In the eyes of the local residents of Quarry Bay, this is just a community that can provide people with a good living and a cheap living service. Many young Hong Kong people are growing up here. ..... The influx of a large number of tourists, also let them feel the charm of the net red card!
There are more than 2,200 units in the four-story high-rise buildings. According to the calculation of 4-5 people per unit, the maximum occupancy is 10,000 people. The population density is so high, it is also a unique Hong Kong-style feature!
When the weather is good, the blue light before sunset can be very beautiful! The rain we went to the day has been going on, okay, then find a rainbow umbrella prop to make up for it!
Transportation: MTR will do Taikoo Station, Exit B will turn left, and two traffic lights will arrive!
The Monster Building, now Hong Kong's very hot net red card, because "Transformers 4" is hot here, but in fact, from the building itself, it is worthy of our respect. Standing in the middle of the patio, looking up, a beauty full of urgency and pressure is quite shocking! The entire monster building is actually composed of five buildings: Fuchang Building, Yichang Building, Yifa Building, Haishan Building and Haidian Building. The five buildings form an E-shape. Whether it is aerial photography or up-and-shooting, it is quite shocking.
As the typical hot spots in Hong Kong have gone almost the same, I gradually began to look for some newly discovered small attractions.
The Quarry Bay is located in the area to the east of the North Point at the foot of Mount Berd in the Eastern District of Hong Kong. Quarry Bay used to be mainly industrial and residential, but more and more commercial buildings have emerged over the past two decades.
In fact, Quarry Bay is like an old-fashioned residential building in Hong Kong. It is just that this piece of Hong Kong has a particularly strong taste and is particularly typical. The most famous landscape of Quarry Bay is the Giant Building. It consists of Fu Cheong House, Yi Che House, Yi Fat House, Hai Shan House and Sea View Building. It is surrounded by a very regular rectangle.
Friends who have seen "Transformers 4" should have a feeling of deja vu, yes, this is one of the locations in Hong Kong.
On the platform in the middle of several buildings, looking up and looking up, there is a blue sky in the densely populated houses, which can feel the dense population of Hong Kong.
In fact, in addition to "Transformers", there are many Hong Kong dramas and movies have been framing here, so the residents here have been strange to visitors. However, for tourists, we still try to keep quiet, do not affect the lives of residents. ~
Then let's talk about how to find the monster building (the giant building). After the subway quarry comes out, you can see a flyover. After crossing the overpass, look for this tall green building, walk along a small road to the front of the building, you will see a staircase, up the stairs to the platform to reach the center of the giant building.
The monster building
, which has long been one of Hong Kong's new generation of popular red card building buildings, is actually just the same distance
in the middle of the three buildings and the other side has become the English letter E/hh. / Relative living standards of residents living with this are significantly lower than the average citizen
they dumped used waste water and air conditioning water from the height of the balcony is low
like a sultry Hong Kong here is always raining
And there are still tourists who come to take a tripod
camera and head and look up at the sky
listen to "rain sound" but no "rain point"
Three dollars of happiness on the streets of Hong Kong!
In the high-priced Hong Kong, to experience the joy in the swaying of the Ding Ding tram on King's Road, it only costs three dollars! With three dollars, you can travel from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan, slowly enjoying the scenery along the way.
I started from the Bank Street at Central's Exchange Square, following the Ding Ding tram eastward, witnessing a Hong Kong filled with the smoke and fire of life: there are the dignified entrances and exits of the CBD's white-collar workers, as well as the old shops standing in rows, the bustling buses, and the working people of the harbor...
Until getting off at Wai On Estate on King's Road, in search of the Monster Building, the filming location for 'Transformers': a combination of a typical Hong Kong street market and surrounding buildings, consisting of the Fuk Cheong Building, Yick Cheong Building, Yick Fat Building, Oceanic Building, and Sea View Building, forming an E-shaped space, a microcosm of Hong Kong's great fusion of life.
Hong Kong is known for its dense and oppressive living conditions due to its large population and small land area, and this Monster Building epitomizes these characteristics to the extreme.
The scene of the Ding Ding tram passing by the skyscrapers is like entering an old movie.
On the way back, walk towards Quarry Bay, browse the vegetable market, and experience the daily life of the locals.
If you get tired of walking, you can take the Ding Ding tram again to Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, or Admiralty, stroll through the malls, and taste the local cuisine, which is truly a fireworks enjoyment.
🌈Highlight: Ding Ding tram, the cheapest sightseeing transport in Hong Kong
🚗Address & Transportation:
King's Road, the main section of the Ding Ding tram from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan. Monster Building, located on the south side of King's Road on Hong Kong Island, between the MTR Quarry Bay Station and Tai Koo Station,
it is recommended to take the Ding Ding tram. Hong Kong Tramways Ding Ding Tram
✨Tips: The Monster Building is actually just a densely populated old residential area, famous because of the movie 'Transformers'. It is located near Wai On Estate on King's Road, and you can see it by entering through the door next to a bakery called 'Ho Hei Bun Shop'.
It's a private place, keep quiet, and do not disturb the residents' lives.
Another side of HK
Monster Building! Have you been there?
Distinctive building structure.

Go to Hong Kong, go to Monster Building, go to climb Victoria Peak, go to citywalk
Hong Kong has been visited many times, but this time it's particularly different.
It was overcast, and for a continuous week, the top of Victoria Peak was mostly shrouded in thick fog,
visibility was super low, just to take a few photos,
I climbed the mountain for five consecutive days and I admire myself for that,
but fortunately, I managed to take some quite satisfying photos (picture six)
The spot requires climbing a small hill on the walking trail side.
For Monster Building, those shots they took of the super tall buildings are photoshopped,
shooting from a low angle, the building is only this tall.
If anyone has any good shooting spots to share, feel free to do so, and welcome to discuss in the comments section
Hong Kong's Monster Building, a hotspot for social media check-ins!
💟💟 The Monster Building in Hong Kong, as a filming location for Transformers, indeed presents a more stunning view on camera than what the naked eye can see, with its highly dense residential structure that can only be deeply appreciated in Hong Kong. However, there are no airplanes flying over it,
❤️❤️ To visit the Monster Building, you can take the subway or bus, but it's recommended to experience the joy of a three Hong Kong dollar ride! Take the tram!
❇️❇️ Get off at the shipyard and walk back more than 100 meters to reach the tram. Remember to watch for the station yourself, as there is no station announcement, and the scenery along the slow tram ride is also great for photography!
📍📍 Location: Monster Building
Surprisingly, there is a % next to the atrium inside the Monster Building, which amazed me, as I never thought it would be located in such a down-to-earth place!
Hong Kong|After visiting this spot on Hong Kong Island, I feel so energized
|After visiting this spot on Hong Kong Island, I feel so energized. Took advantage of the free tram rides on the 71st to tour Hong Kong Island again
A place with the charm of an old town and the prosperity of a commercial district
The entire Hong Kong Island line complements the cityscape and distinctive neighborhoods
Having been here dozens of times, I still can't quite explain why it gives me such a boost
(Maybe I just really like taking photos, or perhaps photography brings back a lot of memories of things and events)
The classic Hong Kong Island line is also great for solo trips~

📸 Photo spots:
📍Monster Building (🚇Tai Koo Station B)
A filming location for 'Transformers 4'. The dense buildings are characteristic of old Hong Kong, and the sight is spectacular! Composed of five buildings forming an 'E' shape, housing tens of thousands of residents, it's recommended to go inside for an even more impressive view (entrance at Hoi Shan Building)
📍Healthy East Street (🚇Quarry Bay C)
The end of the road leads to the sea, and this spot is where those viral photos are taken. It looks much better with good weather and sunlight. Take photos from the slope looking down the road (a smartphone won't do, a telephoto lens is recommended 😂)
📍Chun Yeung Street Market (🚇North Point B1)
A bustling market in the midst of the city, full of life and local atmosphere. You can find the most authentic Hong Kong vibe here. Next to it is the North Point tram terminus, where 🚎 trams shuttle above the market, creating a unique cityscape. Unfortunately, the frequency isn't high, so you might need to spend some time waiting for the 🚎
📍Sai Ying Pun (🚇Sai Ying Pun B2)
◾️First Street
◾️Centre Street along the way
◾️Sai Ying Pun Market
◾️Third Street side view of IFC
◾️Sai Ying Pun Community Complex
◾️West Side Street to photograph the church
You could say it's even better for photos than Kennedy Town, from First Street to Third Street, Centre Street, you don't need navigation or a guide, just wandering around is full of surprises, even the subway station itself is full of character
📍Shek Tong Tsui Hill Road (🚇The University of Hong Kong B2)
Many people come here inspired by the movie 'Rouge Button', where you can photograph Hong Kong's hill roads, which are really steep, giving this spot a cinematic feel
📍Kennedy Town
Strolling till dusk, the last stop could be Kennedy Town, where you can have a coffee, watch the sea, watch the sunset, and enjoy a pleasant time by the seaside
The Essence of Hong Kong Locals... Yick Cheong Building.
Yick Cheong Building represents a unique architectural style that has developed due to Hong Kong's extremely limited housing space and high population density. Located in the Quarry Bay area of Hong Kong, these buildings are called the 'Monster Building' overseas because their form resembles that of a gigantic monster. The Monster Building is characterized by its vertically extensive height and the narrow spaces between buildings, creating a sort of urban maze. These buildings are mainly used for residential and office spaces, and have become one of the key elements in forming Hong Kong's distinctive urban landscape.
