This was my second mountain after Gunung Kinabalu. We went here in November 2014. I was told it is the highest mountain on Pulau Jawa. Anyway, me and my friends enjoyed our hike to the summit. It was a challenging trail yet beautiful view towards the summit. However, I am also annoyed with the amount of gravels that got into the hiking boots. Some of my stops involved getting rid of the small stones from my boot. My first time seeing a volcano! My destination is the "Volcano Capital" of Indonesia, recommended by both Lonely Planet and National Geographic. 🌋 Mount Semeru, known as the "Mount Fuji of Indonesia," is more highly regarded by locals than Mount Bromo. At 3,676 meters above sea level, it is the highest peak on Java Island. Unlike the desolate surroundings of Mount Bromo, Mount Semeru is surrounded by lush forests and villages. [Itinerary] Day 1: Arrival ✈️ International flight: Depart from China, usually with a layover in Southeast Asia, then arrive at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia. 🚗 Head to the trailhead: From Surabaya Airport, head to the trailhead of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. You can rent a car or take a bus, which takes about 4–5 hours. 🏨 Check in to a hotel: Choose a hotel or homestay near the park to rest and prepare for the next day's itinerary. MT. SEMERU 🌋✨ I call it The Old Gray Man 'cause Mt. Semeru is all gray and is terribly old. It is gorgeous tho. Surrounded by desert, this old volcano stands ta together with Mt. Bromo in the Semeru Mountain Ranges. I was there. I stood and looked at these 2 beautiful creations and I was just mesmerized. To add to that, the beautiful Hindu Temple is as mysterious and mesmerizing as the mountains it is with. #wintergetaway
