✈️ Cafe that will teleport you out of Hong Kong?
With open air seats overlooking a tranquil pond as the backdrop, @thehideout in Mui Wo has taken over Instagram by storm, so we went to check it out for ourselves.
What you need to know before you go:
1. Book in advance online (hard to walk-in)
2. Check the ferry/ bus schedule (Central Pier Number 6/ 3M from Tung Chung)
3. Refer to the map on how to get there (it’s a 10 minute walk from the pier and you’ll pass through a parking lot)
4. Arrive 10 minutes early (to snatch the good spots as it’s free seating)
5. 2 hours dining limit (they’ll call you to inform your time is up)
𝐊𝐲𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐊𝐃𝟓𝟖
The pretty presentation with a frilly four-leaf clover latte art enchanted me at first sight! Taste-wise, it was more on the milky and creamy side that suited my preferences.
𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐕𝐨𝐝𝐤𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐊𝐃𝟏𝟒𝟎
The penne had a sharp flavor accent, which made it a little spicy for me, but luckily the perfectly grilled chicken breasts totally made up for it.
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚 𝐇𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚 𝐇𝐊𝐃𝟏𝟓𝟎
Parma ham and rocket leaves are essentially an irresistible combination. Loved the thin crispy crust and bright tangy tomato sauce, but the cheese solidified too fast due to the cold winter wind, so remember to eat this first!
𝐍𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬 𝐇𝐊𝐃𝟏𝟏𝟎
Although nachos are basically foolproof, this dish would have been even better if they were more generous with the toppings as well as the sour cream/ avocado dips on the side
𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐇𝐊𝐃𝟕𝟎
My friends surprised me with a sweet tiramisu cake for my birthday 🎂 We felt like it was more like soft ice cream though

Mui Wo - Silvermine beach and the beautiful waterfall.
Getting There - It's easy to get here with a fast ferry from Central pier.
#foodie
Attractions - The walk to Silvermine caves and waterfall is very relaxing (kids and elders could do it easily) as you walk past farmlands and I think the waterfall would be even better during the rainy season.
Food & Restaurants -The seafood is delicious and of a very high quality. The fried noodles with prawns and the roast pigeon were both amazing 😍😍😍

CAFE IN MUIWO 🇭🇰 THE HIDEOUT
The cafe is definitely one of a kind as it allows you to enjoy the food and drinks by the pond, I very much enjoyed the experience with my friend! 🫶👯♀️☕️🍽️
The food and drinks are decent in terms of taste and the pricing is not very steep, similar to cafes you find on HK Island.
We ordered a:
- matcha latte
- flat white
- banana and chocolate toast
- nachos with guac & tomato sauce
How to get there: to get to mui wo, you can either take the ferry from the central pier OR you can take the MTR to Ting Chung Station and then take bus 3M and alight at Mui Wo Cooked Food Market
NOTE: pls get a reservation before you make the trip to Mui Wo; different menu are served at different timing so reserve the time slot accordingly; and instead of following the google map instructions (which is a detour), follow the instructions on @thehideouthk on instagram to locate the cafe!!

Fall: perfect hiking weather
Autumn might be the most perfect season in Hong Kong; the weather is still warm but not overly hot and humid like it is in the summer. The days get shorter but the temperature is still steady mid to high twenties.
The hike from DB to Mui Wo is a lovely hike that is a bit of a challenge but nothing impossible. The views you get are incredible and autumn is a great time to do this hike as the weather is beautiful! The weather is crisp and the air is cleaner.

Trekking from day until Night
Probably on of my best trekking in Hongkong with my new found very #adventurous and #high #spirted hikers. You need to take the bus from Tung Chung CityGate to Moi wo. get off in the second stop and start trekking in the river. if you dont like to trek going up, you can start in Tung Chung. The only way to trek is to follow the river. sometimes you’ll see the small falls. this is the best opportunity to take a rest and eat while showering in the falls.

Mui Wo on Lantau Island Hong Kong
Mui Wo is on the eastern part of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. it is a peaceful part of the island and it is definitely not overpopulated however there happens to be some shops here and there as well as a curious case of wildlife such as the cows that can be seen walking and lounging all around this part of the island.
Mui Wo is unique in that it does not give the usual Hong Kong city feeling but instead more of a countryside feeling with quite a few beaches lining where it is with a few boats in the water.
We definitely enjoyed our time in this area of the island that also happens to have plenty of beautiful scenery for those who happen to be visiting.
This destination is off the beaten path, give it a try. Would recommend.

Mui Wo one-star easy hiking route back to Tung Chung
Mui Wo is indeed a good place for vacation. It has a quiet environment, different natural attractions, and many abandoned buildings. It is a hot spot for photographing ruins. We departed from the Central Pier and arrived by boat. It was a Sunday and we just wanted a bowl of crab eggplant, pork soup and lemon noodles that are only available on Sunday. Fortunately, we did not come back disappointed, and it was worth the train and boat tickets. It's best to come to Jinjin Restaurant early and call in advance to make a reservation, otherwise your trip will be in vain. In fact, you don’t need to come on Sunday. On the contrary, there are fewer people during the week and it’s more fun.
After eating, we started walking around Mui Wo. First we visited the Silver Mine Bay Beach with clear water and fine sand. Then we went up the mountain and passed the abandoned Silver Mine Cave. Then we went up to the most beautiful spot, the Silver Mine Bay Waterfall, where the sun shone brightly and the water flowed. Under the intersection, you may see the rainbow 🌈 rays. Then continue up the mountain and rest for a while at Wangduao Rain Shelter. From the pavilion, you will be connected by the mountain road back to the road. After passing Niugulong Village, walk about 1 kilometer on the road and you will reach Baidu. Mangcun, where you can see the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge under construction, the scenery is pleasant!

Calm in Mui Wo
Mui Wo is located on Lantau Island and is accessible by both ferry from Central or bus from Tung Chung. It can be described as a small town (in HK terms) and is known for its holiday feel.
The town center itself is small and a bit forgettable. However the cook food center has an abundant selection of restaurants featuring HK specialities as well as seafood dishes. You can even dine next to the sea which is an absolute plus.
Mui Wo also features a nice beach that is clean and has facilities such as showers and toilets. One can also venture further afield to the Silvermine Waterfall. Personally, I recommend hiking from Mui Wo to Discovery Bay via Trappist monastery. It's a moderate 2 hr hike and especially arriving at Mui Wo, you're rewarded with breathtaking views of the sea and mountains! Head to Mui Wo for some good food and relaxing outing.
Life advice: If you come to Hong Kong, you must spend a day here.

Mui Wo 🏝️
This is probably the least popular island in Hong Kong.
Even on weekends, there are very few tourists.
Find a beach 🥂 and lie down for an afternoon.
It's simply a paradise for introverts.
Most of the people here are foreigners.
It almost feels like you're abroad.
This was the most surprising stop on my trip to Hong Kong!

📷 [Other travel tips]
1️⃣ There aren't many commercial areas here, most are concentrated around Mui Wo Pier, where you can enjoy stunning sea views.
2️⃣ Navigate to Silvermine Waterfall, where you'll find a pristine landscape and even some cows wandering around. It's perfect for hiking.
3️⃣ Finally, head to Silvermine Bay Beach to lie down and take a walk. You can also try kayaking and beach volleyball.
4️⃣ I recommend combining this with a 2-day trip to Ngong Ping and Tai O. If you're going to Hong Kong Disneyland, you can plan a 3-day trip, which is perfect for families. It's more convenient to stay near Tung Chung MTR Station.
🏨 We stayed at the Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel, which offers free shuttle service to the MTR station and airport. The surprise was that in the evening, we went to the rooftop restaurant with friends. It's said to be one of the top steakhouses in Hong Kong, and the environment and taste were both great. If you check in early in the afternoon, you can also go to the observation deck near the hotel pool to watch the sunset. You can see planes taking off and the pier in the distance.

🏃🏽 Hong Kong Olympic Trail: The trail is about 5.6 kilometers long, with the highest point at 227 meters, very suitable for hiking and enjoying the natural scenery along the way, as well as for lung health.
