Get Up Close with Deer! A Relaxing Trip to Nara Park.
The park is filled with deer that are not afraid of people and will even come up to you for food. Just hold some deer crackers, and they'll come right over. Interacting with the deer is truly therapeutic, but be careful as they can sometimes be a bit pushy and bump into people.
Although the scenery here is beautiful, whether it's cherry blossom season or autumn leaves season, it can get quite crowded, especially on holidays.
Also, watch out for deer droppings on the ground to avoid stepping on them!
Overall, Nara Park is definitely worth a visit to experience the joy of being with the deer!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Family Fun at Nara Park, Japan! 🦌🌿
#familytime
We had an amazing day at Nara Park with the family! The deer here are so friendly (and hungry 😅), and we loved feeding them with special deer crackers 🦌🍘
Tips for visiting:
▪️Bring Deer Crackers: You can buy them on-site for 200 yen, and the deer will love you for it! But be cautious—they can get a bit eager.
▪️No Littering: Be sure not to drop any trash—deer sometimes mistake it for food, and it can harm them! 🚮
▪️No Human Food for Deer: Stick to feeding them the official crackers. Other food can upset their stomachs.
▪️Do Not Hit or Chase the Deer: The deer are friendly but can become aggressive if mistreated. Respect their space and be gentle.
‼️The Deer Are Wild Animals: While they are generally friendly, they can bite, butt, kick, or knock you down if they feel threatened or overexcited.

What a lovely day to start with by witnessing deer wandering around the forest. While we are on the way going up temple in Nara Park, this was the view we captured!
All the views top up with a cold and chilly weather, this is exactly what we are expecting travelling to Japan!
Strongly recommend for travellers that love a peaceful walk into the woods with all the cute deers.

Nara! I chased the sunset of my life on Mount Wakakusa.
Mount Wakakusa is located in Nara, Japan, and is a popular tourist destination. Here is a travel guide for Mount Wakakusa:
- Transportation guide:
- From Kintetsu Nara Station: Walk for about 35 minutes to reach the south gate of Mount Wakakusa; take bus No. 70 or No. 97 from JR Nara Station to Kasuga Taisha Honden Station, then walk for about 15 minutes.
- From Kasuga Taisha: After coming out of the stone lantern path of Kasuga Taisha, walk along the Omotesando of Kasuga Taisha, and you will see the entrance to Mount Wakakusa.
- Climbing route:
- South gate climbing route: After entering from the south gate, you will pass a relatively gentle slope, then a stone step road, and finally reach the third layer of the mountain top. This route is relatively short, with low difficulty, suitable for most tourists.
- North gate climbing route: After entering from the north gate, you will pass a relatively long stone step road, then a relatively gentle slope, and finally reach the third layer of the mountain top. This route is relatively long, with high difficulty, suitable for tourists with certain physical strength and climbing experience.
- Play time: The recommended play time for Mount Wakakusa is more than 3 hours, so that you can fully appreciate the beautiful scenery on the mountain and experience various activities.
- Best travel time: The best travel time for Mount Wakakusa is spring and autumn, when the vegetation on the mountain is the most lush and the scenery is the most beautiful.
- Precautions:
- The opening hours of Mount Wakakusa are from March 21 to June 15 every year, and from September 10 to November 25, and it is not open to the public at other times.

Just returned from a day trip to Nara with a nanny-level itinerary and minefield guide
🙆♂️I just came back from Nara recently
I've organized all the strategies and minefield guides
✅For your reference for a day trip
▶️The 4 must-visit places in Nara are basically connected, Nara Park (Royal Deer Garden), Todai-ji (world-class wooden architecture), Wakakusa-yama (overlooking the entire city of Nara, and there are more deer and fewer people, highly recommended), and Kasuga-taisha (world-class garden landscape)
·
✅Suggested itinerary
Nara Park->Kasuga-taisha->Todai-ji->Wakakusa-yama
Although this route involves a bit of backtracking, it allows you to save the best sunset time for Wakakusa-yama, trust me, it's really, really worth it! (For strategies on Wakakusa-yama, see my previous note)
·
🚗Transportation
From Osaka to Nara, take the train and get off at Kintetsu Nara Station
If possible, be sure to choose the express line! Because the express line is at least 40 minutes faster than the regular line
·
🌸Specific time schedule
▶️9:30 Depart from Osaka
.
▶️10:10 Arrive at Kintetsu Nara Station
Exit 2, right out to the shopping street, where you can buy a sandwich for breakfast
.
▶️10:20 Go to Kofuku-ji
Free admission, one of the seven great temples of the Southern Capital in neon lights
.
▶️11:10 Go to Gango-ji
Free admission, one of Nara's national treasures and World Heritage Sites, and one of the few five-story pagodas preserved to this day
.
▶️12:00 Go to Nara Park
There are too many people here, and the deer are all well-fed and mostly lying down, so I personally suggest solving lunch here
.
▶️14:00 Kasuga-taisha
From here, it starts to be very, very photogenic, with lush greenery filling your eyes, and many little deer shuttle through the stone monuments, mysterious and cute! If you have deer crackers in your hand, they will carefully come to your side, and at that time you can take a selfie with them, super cute haha
.
▶️15:00 Todai-ji
World-class wooden architecture! Those who like architecture really shouldn't miss it, as you will be amazed by the Great Buddha as soon as you enter the gate
.
▶️16:00 Wakakusa-yama
Few people and quiet! The deer are very lively! And you can also overlook the entire Nara from the mountaintop! Trust me, you can skip anywhere else, but you must go here! Just go for it with your eyes closed! Especially when the sun sets, the warm sunlight falls on the endless lawn, with a few deer around you, as if you've stepped into the animated world of Makoto Shinkai! So, so, so beautiful❗️Remember to enter from the South Gate! Entering from the North Gate will take an extra half hour!❗️
.
▶️19:00 Return trip
.

Feed Japan‘s Famous Deer
The Nara Deer Park is a historical park in Japan that’s famous for having hundreds of friendly deer you can feed and take pictures with. The semi-wild deer roam around the park freely and interacting with them can be lots of fun.But be careful of being chased by deer and stay away from deer with antlers. Being gored will be very painful.

If you are in Osaka you might as well visit Nara Park where you can just relax and chill in the park. No entrance fee. Free to roam around and enjoy the company of cute deers.
This part of the trip was so exhilarating. It's simply stunning. The whole experience was amazing.
The open fields, the shrines, the deer, everything was beautiful. Recommended to explore the park further and enjoy the nature.
Be prepared to walk at least 20k steps and wear comfortable shoes.

Feeding the deer in Nara
Nara Park is one of the must-see areas in Nara City. It is a nice place to see hundreds of deer roaming freely.
Feeding the deer is one of the highlights when visiting the park. Some deer are aggresive tho, they will be chasing you if they smell the crackers, which you can buy around the park for 200 yen.
When you bow your head to the deer, they bow back to
you.
Getting there:
From Kyoto, take the JR Nara Line from Kyoto Station to JR Nara Station. Miyakoji rapid trains depart every 30 minutes, and the trip takes about 45 minutes one-way. It is covered by the JR Pass. Local trains are also available, but take an hour and fifteen minutes one-way.

Deers in the City
#freehotelstay
Nara Park is a gorgeous place to visit that is walking distance from the busy main station where there are many restaurants and a famous walking street. Entry is free and you are free to roam around the grounds or purchase some food for the deers. Money collected goes towards the caretaking of them. The deers are free roaming who seemed to be always hungry. Feeding the deers was such a fun activity. Once they see the biscuit in your hands, they will charge towards you. The deers can get quite aggressive so we put our child in her stroller as she was scared. Becareful if you have young kids with you. Also, do keep food and plastics away from them. We had a deer digging into our stroller basket as we had some leftover bread exposed. That shocked my little one and us. However the coolest thing about the deers are that if you bow to them, they will bow back to you!
Besides the deers, Nara Park is filled with lots of culture and history with shrines and a huge pagoda right in the park. The area was tranquil and beautiful. Unfortunately we did not have much time to wander around longer. Nara Park is a absolute must visit as no other place has such a unique charm just right in the busyness of the town.

Explore Nara Park with Kids! 😍
We recently visited Nara Park, and let me tell you, it's a child-friendly and stroller-friendly haven that's perfect for families. This enchanting park in Japan offers a delightful blend of nature and culture, making it an ideal destination for parents and kids alike.
Nara Park is a great destination for families with little ones. The spacious pathways and well-maintained trails make it a breeze to navigate with a stroller. No need to worry about bumpy rides here!
What you can do with kids >
1. Feeding the Deers: 🍪 One of the highlights of Nara Park is the friendly deer population. Kids will absolutely love feeding them shika senbei (deer crackers). It's a magical experience watching their faces light up as they interact with these gentle creatures.
2. Exploring the Nara National Museum: 🏛️ The Nara National Museum, located within the park, is not your typical museum. It's filled with captivating artifacts and exhibits that can engage young minds and ignite their curiosity about history and art.
3. Isui-en Garden Adventure: 🌸 Adjacent to Nara Park, Isui-en Garden offers a tranquil escape into nature. The serene pond, meandering paths, and seasonal blooms provide a perfect backdrop for a family outing and some quality time in the great outdoors.
What can I say? Nara Park is a paradise for families. With its child-friendly and stroller-friendly paths, and many exciting activities, it's a place where parents (and non-parents!) can create lasting memories with their little ones. Based on my visit, I recommend packing your bags and bringing your family to Nara Park for a day of adventure and fun! You can also go solo! 😉🌟🌳

Exploring Nara With Adorable Deers - Nara Park
Nara Park is an absolute gem! The adorable and friendly deer roaming freely gives the place a unique charm. Feeding them is a delightful experience. The cute deers were the most polite wildlife we've ever encountered, so it's a given that we should be polite too when visiting their home.
The park's surroundings boast incredible temples like Todaiji, with its awe-inspiring Great Buddha statue. There's also Kokufu-ji, Kasuga Taisha, and other interesting sites surrounding the deer park.
Exploring the park and these historic temples is a perfect way to immerse yourself in Nara's rich history and natural beauty. It's a must-visit for anyone traveling to Japan! 🦌🏯

Nara Park is a large park in Central Nara. There are more than hundreds of deer roaming freely around in the park. Deer crackers are for sale at Yen 200 for a pack of 10. Some deers will bow to you after you fed them. Most of them are tame, but can be aggressive if they are hungry. So don't make fun of them when feeding.
To get there, alight at Kintetsu Nara Station or JR Nara station and take a bus there if you don't want to walk to the park. Admission to the park is free.

Oh deer! Thousands of deer at Nara Park 🦌
Nara park is world famous for the Nara deer that roam around the grounds, around 1500 at the last count. These deer have been protected for at least 1000 years and have become an inseparable part of the city, you will see there image everywhere.
You can reach the park from Nara station on bus routes, about 4 stops from the station, taxis or direct on trains from Osaka, Kobe & Kyoto.
The deer are very docile and friendly, If you are calm and considerate you can get close enough for photos and to touch them.
The local shops sell food tor about $1.5 for you to feed them. But be careful, the deers can get very excited about the food and ground around you very quickly!
It’s easier to find one or two deers on their own and feed them, feeding the large crowds can become very overwhelming!
It’s a great trip for the whole family, and then there is plenty to do in the town before you go home - lots of food options and walking streets for souvenirs.

Nara Deer Park Review
The Nara Deers are cute and all but they get really feisty when you have food!
Remember to ONLY feed the Nara Deers with food bought from the park! One pack of biscuits (10 inside) is 200 yen! You can get the food from any white standing wheel carts pushed by oba-chans (aunties).
I’ve been chased non-stop by the deers once I bought my food. It was extremely horrifying.
Here’s a tip! Get your camera ready once you find a deer to bow at! Because they will only bow at you twice or thrice max before they get bored of you!

Deers Everywhere At Nara Park 🦌
#wecreate
Nara park is such an interesting park in central Nara, Japan. Nara park is a large park and it is not just full of visitors from around the world at this park, but it is also full of deers. These deers are free to roam around in the park and they are surprisingly tame and not aggressive. People are allowed to touch and pet these cute animals and they are allowed to feed the deers too. Deer feed can be purchased from street stalls but do be very careful of the deer feed, as a whole hoard of deers would rush to you for the food and it will be gone in seconds. Nara park itself is very beautiful and it's even more special with these deers. It's a fun and unique experience at Nara park, so do visit it.
Nara is famous for its shrine and Jinja. Apart from visiting the gorgeous shrine, the most exciting activities visiting Nara is feeding Nara deer! You can find them everywhere at Nara Park. They look cute and harmless, but just a reminder that they will get excited when there is food! If you want to feed them, buy the Shika Senbei (deer crackers) at Nara Park which cost JPY200 per pack. Be there early before sunset, there are souvenir shops on the way to Nara Park.

In the park, there are many deer. Although they seem gentle, their temperaments are not small. Especially the male deer, they will fight each other for food when they are in a bad mood. When feeding deer, please pay attention to the following points:
1. Deer-like, they are usually more hungry in the morning and have a bigger temper. It's best not to do anything to make them angry in the morning.
2. Don't try to lure deer with food, they will get angry.
3. When feeding, be careful not to be blocked by the deer, and do not easily expose the deer cake. If the deer knows that you still have deer cake, it will not let you go easily.
4. When encountering antlered male deer, avoid angering them. Being bumped by a female deer is no big deal, but being bumped by an antlered male deer could result in injury.
Deer may headbutt, kick, or bite people. Please be careful when feeding them.

At the east gate, there is one of the gathering places for deer. The temple is free to enter, but there is a fee for worshiping in the main hall. It is strongly recommended to visit the main hall, which is very shocking!!! Actually, before going, I had seen many photos in various travel guides, but when I saw it in person, I could only open my mouth and say "Wow!" The main hall is 60 meters high, equivalent to about 20 floors of residential buildings!

In Nara Park, there is an ancient shrine called Kasuga-taisha, which is also one of the three major shrines in Japan and was formerly known as Kasuga Shrine. The 3,000 stone lanterns and hanging lanterns inside the shrine are also very famous. In addition, there are 3,000 cultural relics including 520 national treasures hidden in the shrine. Especially the quaint stone lanterns are a special scenery of Kasuga-taisha. Walking on the stone lantern avenue in the lush forest, one can be immersed in the ancient charm of Nara.

🎀About Nara - The drooling followers
In Nara Park, there is a beautiful green lawn where a large group of small deer gather. It's a must-visit spot, but the deer here are quite rough and will snatch the deer biscuits from your hand and bump into you. It's super scary~ If you accidentally drop all the biscuits on the ground, a large group of deer will immediately come and snatch them up! So remember to hide your food! Especially avoid the old deer with sawed-off antlers, who are more reckless and often fight with other deer~
🎏Feeding Deer Tips
When feeding the deer, take out the food one by one, otherwise it will be gone quickly. When there is no more food, just shrug and say they are smart enough to know you don't have any. There are many vendors selling biscuits on the roadside.
💰Deer cake: 150 yen
🎐Photo-taking tips
You can sit at the entrance of the Spring Grand Shrine or at Ichimomae and take a photo with the gentle deer.
Find a good angle and take a photo with half of your face and the deer feeding at the same time, walking among the deer herd.
🛵Transportation Tips
After arriving at Nara Station, exit from Gate 1. There is a storage locker near Gate 2 next to Gate 1. You will need physical strength to climb the mountain later! You can store some items to reduce weight.

Nara: An Endless Rewarding Destination ⛩️
Spend a day walking around the park, you'll be amazed with the peacefulness and view. Seeing the wild deer wander freely in nature absolutely took our hearts away🌲🦌🦌 Also visit Todai-ji Temple, Kofukuji Temple and the lake - so calm and soul lifting 🩶 Here's a few collection of Nara Park in Japan. ⛩️🎋🎐🇯🇵
Getting there: By train is the best and easiest way to get to Nara from wherever you are. It’s cheap, fast, and very efficient. Nara is under an hour away from Kyoto and Osaka. There are two main train stations in Nara, making the city very easily accessible. Both stations are called Nara, but are distinguished by the train lines they serve: JR (Japan Railways) and Kintetsu. This can be a little confusing for first-time visitors, but luckily the stations are only a 10-15 minute walk from each other.
Great for a day trip. Best time to visit are in Spring (Mar-May) and Autumn (Sep-Nov).

Nara Park, where deer greets with a bow
There is a place in Japan, called Nara, about an hour away from Osaka/Kyoto, where you can see herds of deer roaming around the streets and parks. Statistics has estimated that there are approximate 1200 Sika deers living around the area. Established in 1880, this park is one of the oldest in Japan and while preserving the ecosystem, the municipal has decided that area to be designated where humans and deers co-live together. Tourists can purchase deer crackers from street peddlers from various spots within the park, but beware not to tease them as the deers are wild and could be agitated due to teasing. Do remember to treat them with respect as deer is considered a sacred animal to local residence in Nara.
