The Nasu Stained Glass Museum, housed in a building modeled after an English manor house, displays a large number of precious antique stained glass pieces. The light streaming in through the large stained glass windows in the cathedral inside the museum creates a truly mystical atmosphere. Day 2: After a restful night at the Nasukogen accommodation, I wake up to the sound of rain that transitions into a clear morning. Due to the unavailability of taxis from two companies for an 8 AM reservation the previous night, I cancel two morning plans, giving me some extra leisure time. I laze around in the room before heading to the morning onsen at 7 AM, which refreshes my body. I also enjoy a full-course session on the complimentary full-body massage chair. Relaxing in the guest library while gazing at the garden is pure bliss. Breakfast is at 8 AM instead of 7 AM. While the dinner buffet was extravagant, breakfast feels modest in comparison. The omelet made with Nasu eggs is absolutely delicious, filled generously with cheese and mushrooms. I take a stroll around the hotel grounds, which are beautiful in every way. At 9:30 AM, I visit the Stained Glass Museum, which is also stunning. Videos are prohibited, but photos are allowed. Since it’s only a 10-minute walk back to the hotel, I return to my room. After freshening up, I take the hotel shuttle to Yuano Mori (Michi-no-Eki Nasu). I had pre-booked this service through the official website. For travelers without a car, it’s all about gathering information. Being in a highland area, it’s a treasure trove of dairy products like milk, eggs, and cheese. I buy a premium milk bottle (180ml for 300 yen) and the Nasukogen version of Sendai’s famous confectionery, Haginotsuki, which is quite popular. It feels like being in Hokkaido, with a similar vibe to Furano or Karuizawa. I take a taxi to the Nara Yoshitomo Museum. Originally, I planned to collect the Hello Kitty spring version manhole card, but I found out yesterday that it was sold out, so I skip it. Instead, I also visit Meiji no Mori (Michi-no-Eki Shiobara). There are seven types of Hello Kitty manhole cards in total, and I end my collection with six. The spring version seems to have a market price of around 6,000 yen. Thanks to this, I have more time at the Nara Yoshitomo Museum, extending my visit from 37 minutes to 1 hour and 10 minutes. I also get to see the canola flower fields at Michi-no-Eki. The Nara Yoshitomo Museum, called N’s YARD, prohibits touching the artworks and taking videos, but photos are allowed. The gift shop prohibits both photos and videos. There’s also a café inside the museum, which I visit and enjoy. It’s a happy moment. I head to Nasushiobara Station, where I spot Master’s Dream beer at the convenience store. A friend had once convinced me to always buy it when I see it, so I purchase it. I drink it on the Shinkansen and take a nap. In just 25 minutes, I arrive at the terminal station, Koriyama. I use my membership benefits to pre-order a new Starbucks drink launching tomorrow via mobile order and enjoy it. Then, I take the airport limousine bus to Fukushima Airport. It seems the international flights here only go to Taiwan. A two-story Ultraman statue greets me. I board a 2×2-seater plane, the same type I took to Yonaguni, and head to Osaka Itami Airport. While sleeping, the captain announces that Mount Fuji and the Central Alps are visible on the left, so I wake up to take photos. The flight departs early and arrives early. At Itami Airport, there’s a Wolfgang Puck restaurant by a Michelin 3-star chef. Using The Lounge app, I get a pizza or burger set. I pack the burger and salad, and enjoy the cola and ice cream at the restaurant. I take the limousine bus to Kobe Sannomiya, arriving in just 33 minutes. At 8 PM, I check into my Kobe hotel for Day 3. This hotel, opened in 1870, is Japan’s first hotel and a historic site. I get a room on the 11th floor with a harbor view. I also have a 9 PM reservation for the Night Afternoon Tea at the same hotel. It’s a two-person minimum reservation, but I book for two and enjoy it alone. I even have two glasses of champagne. This Japan trip is a 3-night, 4-day itinerary to Sendai. This is my 9th trip to Sendai, and on the 4th day, I will return home via Kansai Airport. On day 1, I stay in Sendai; day 2, in Nasu Kogen; and day 3, in Kobe. The theme of this trip is to have a variety of experiences in a short time. Most of my trips have had this theme, but this time I made it spectacular like never before. I invested nearly 100 hours studying in advance. I booked the outbound trip for April last December. I purchased a one-way ticket from Incheon to Sendai using mileage. The return trip was booked around mid-January. The decision to return via Kansai Airport was made while purchasing tickets for the Osaka Expo opening two weeks. While going to Sendai, I also want to collect two types of Kitty manhole cards distributed in Nasu-Shiobara, Tochigi Prefecture. Because of the Kitty manhole, I also planned a 3rd trip to Nasu-Shiobara with accommodation to deepen the travel experience and try Nasu Kogen for the first time. Thanks to the variety, I will participate in afternoon tea once a day. The locations are Sendai, Shiobara, Kobe, and Osaka. I planned to collect about 15 manhole cards. I also plan to visit Starbucks at least once a day. Cultural activities are scattered throughout. Thus, an incredible 3-night, 4-day itinerary is completed. On day 1, I will go to Sendai to collect Miyagi Prefecture manhole cards and try gyutan at the top-ranked places on Tabelog & Google and the top-ranked place on Yahoo Japan, then visit the number one place on Jalan.net. Since the schedule overlaps with the Conan movie release, I also plan to watch the movie. On day 2, after breakfast, I will take the Shinkansen to Fukushima. I will collect one or two manhole cards from cities in Fukushima Prefecture and then move to Nasu-Shiobara in Tochigi Prefecture. The Kitty manhole card distribution site is a mountain paradise, so I will invest 2 hours round trip by bus to get one spring edition card. The other autumn edition card is somewhere else, so I have to go again the next day. I sent an Instagram DM to the Shiobara Onsen cafe to reserve afternoon tea. After enjoying afternoon tea, I plan to revisit the Nasu Starbucks partner who drew Kitty after 6 years. Although that partner may no longer be there, it is a place remembered as a beautiful memory, so I will stop by. For accommodation, I will move to Nasu Kogen. The last shuttle time is around 4 PM, so I will spend time at Shiobara Onsen and Starbucks, then choose to travel alone by public transport to the hotel. I have to climb over 2 kilometers on a two-lane mountain road without shoulders. It is a resort hotel with hot springs, including breakfast and dinner. This is my first stay with the Itkudaia upgrade 💎. The hotels I booked until October, which are non-refundable and a bit expensive, have all been upgraded to the Diamond version and rebooked. On day 3 morning, I will greet the day with a morning hot spring at Nasu Kogen. After joining breakfast at 7 AM, I will visit the famous day-trip hot springs in Nasu Onsen. In the morning, I will enjoy cultural activities by visiting the three major art museums in Nasu Kogen. I will also visit the Michi-no-Eki roadside station. I will call a taxi to go up to the mountain paradise on the opposite side from the previous day to get the autumn edition Kitty manhole card. Then I will move to Nasu-Shiobara Station and take the Shinkansen to Koriyama Station. Here, I will take a breather with a Starbucks coffee, then head to Fukushima Airport to take a domestic flight to Osaka Itami Airport. Since Kobe’s 9 PM afternoon tea requires at least two people, I will pay for two and participate solo. I booked a Kobe hotel with a harbor view to fall asleep looking at the sea. On day 4, I will spend the morning visiting the Osaka Expo, enjoy afternoon tea at a new Osaka hotel in the afternoon, then head to Kansai Airport to return home. Thank you.
