The Longest Cable Car in Hong Kong and the Giant Buddha Attraction
Giant Buddha in Hong Kong
📍 Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car
Ngong Ping Village, which you can reach after a 20-minute cable car ride, is a wonderful place with a giant bronze Buddha.
You can capture the stairs leading to the Buddha and the magnificent Buddha itself in one frame. For those who want to experience a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere, unlike the bustling and noisy city center of Hong Kong, this is a great place to visit.

Not just Yau Tsim Mong, get to know a different Hong Kong in three days and two nights
Summer vacation is here, and many people are preparing to visit Hong Kong
I searched for a lot of travel guides, but they only cover the Yau Tsim Mong area
But there are really many unique places in Hong Kong
This time I specifically visited some niche and treasured Hong Kong attractions
Not only is the scenery especially beautiful, but the culture is also uniquely distinctive
.

📖Detailed travel guide
1️⃣Lantau Island Big Bus (Sunset Ride)
The Big Bus, same as in 'Flower Less', is a double-decker open-top sightseeing bus. You must take the 5:30 pm ride, when it passes the airport maintenance area, it instantly turns into a sunset ride, very healing.
🎫: Ngong Ping 360
💰: 120 HKD
🚌: Wait next to Ngong Ping Cable Car Station
2️⃣Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car🚡
Take the panoramic cable car directly to Lantau Island, after getting off the cable car you'll find Ngong Ping Market, where you can take photos with Doraemon and Tiger. Passing through the market, you'll reach Po Lin Monastery and Tian Tan Buddha. Tian Tan Buddha is the world's second tallest outdoor bronze Buddha, you must see it with your own eyes, it's spectacular.
🎫: Get on at Ngong Ping 360, it's recommended to choose the Tai O pass
🚡: Standard, crystal, and panoramic cabins available
💰: Round trip from 264 HKD
⏱️: Recommended visit 1-2h
3️⃣Tai O Fishing Village
A river with stilt houses built along both sides, supported by just a few poles, very characteristic. These colorful stilt houses, one after another, form a different Hong Kong fishing village. You can take a boat here and experience a different feeling of the fishing village from the river.
🎫: None
🚌: Take bus 21 from Ngong Ping Market to the end at Tai O
🚢: Boarding at Tai O Fishing Village, next to the blue bridge
4️⃣Lower Cheung Sha Village
This is a niche and free beach with few people, the sand is very fine, and there are many crabs to catch. There are a few Western restaurants by the beach, you can have lunch there, remember to bring some cash💰, as most do not support online payments.
🚌: From the bus station next to Tung Chung MTR station, find bus 11 or 23 to Lower Cheung Sha Village, ring the bell to get off, you can take the bus with a QR code.
5️⃣Citygate
There are many department stores here, before leaving Hong Kong, shop here, locals often come to visit too.
🚇: Tung Chung Station
6️⃣Tung Chung Sheraton
Close to the airport and Hong Kong Disneyland, I chose a sea view room which is very cost-effective, with an amazing view. There is a shuttle bus to Tung Chung MTR station every half hour, and you can 🆓store luggage.

Life Advice!!! You must take a cable car ride in Hong Kong at least once
Hong Kong's Ngong Ping 360 is the longest outdoor dual-cable cable car in Asia, and it has been awarded the honor of being among the world's top ten most amazing cable car journeys, top ten highest quality cable car experiences, and top ten global cable car trips. Starting from Tung Chung Station, the cable car ride offers views of Tung Chung city center, Hong Kong Airport, Lantau Island, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Tian Tan Buddha, and Ngong Ping Village, with the whole journey taking approximately 25 minutes. Here is a detailed guide to the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car 🎉🎉🎉
✅ Ticketing Guide
There are three types of cabins: standard, crystal, and panoramic. For photography, you must choose the panoramic cabin‼
If you want to buy a round-trip ticket + take photos, you can choose the standard cabin for the outbound trip and the panoramic cabin for the return trip (fewer people on the return trip, better photo effect).
If you buy a one-way ticket + want to take photos, you can choose the panoramic cabin for the outbound trip and take the bus back (sunset ride).
🙋 The main difference between the standard cabin and the crystal cabin is whether the floor is transparent. The queue for the crystal cabin is a bit faster (about the same for the outbound trip, faster for the return trip). If you just want to experience the cable car once, it is recommended to choose the standard cabin for the outbound trip + bus for the return trip, as the difference in experience between the two types of cabins is not worth the price difference.
✅ Ticket Redemption: Online ticket purchases come with a wristband, just scan the QR Code
🕐 Business Hours: 10:00-18:00
✅ Transportation: Subway 👉 Get off at Tung Chung Station, or Lok Ma Chau exit, take KMB B1 to transfer to KMB E36 (about 1.5h)
✅ Tour Route: Ngong Ping Village → Tian Tan Buddha
🙏 Ngong Ping Village + Tian Tan Buddha:
After the cable car lands, head to Ngong Ping Village to try local snacks and take photos at the graffiti wall.
📷 I feel that walking in the village, with the cable car above and you on the ground in the same frame, or the distant Buddha, creates a unique atmosphere.
🎬 The Hong Kong feng shui treasure spot mentioned by Eric Tsang and Chen Daoming in 'Infernal Affairs III' turns out to be the Tian Tan Buddha – a must-see!
🔑 Tips
1. It is recommended to choose the crystal cable car to enjoy the panoramic view.
2. The cable car seats are rotating, convenient for passengers to take photos.
3. Ngong Ping Village has a variety of snacks and handicrafts to browse.
4. The Tian Tan Buddha is one of the symbolic structures of Hong Kong and is worth a visit.

Ride the Ngong Ping cable car to worship the Great Buddha Tian Tan.
Ride the Ngong Ping cable car to worship the Great Buddha Tian Tan, the world's largest seated bronze Buddha statue in meditation pose.
Visiting Hong Kong, you must go to Lantau Island, the largest and most famous island in Hong Kong. With its mountains, nature, beaches, and a must-visit is the Ngong Ping cable car ride to worship the Great Buddha Tian Tan, the world's largest seated bronze Buddha statue in meditation pose.
The Great Buddha Tian Tan was constructed in 1924 and cost about 60 million Hong Kong dollars. It was modeled after the Buddha statues in the Longmen Grottoes, standing 34 meters tall, made from 160 bronze pieces weighing 250 tons, seated on a lotus throne facing north to overlook the people of Hong Kong and mainland China. It has a serene and majestic appearance, with a gentle gaze and a right hand raised in blessing, shining brilliantly when struck by sunlight.

Time To TravelTh
Hong Kong Off-the-Beaten-Path Family Tour | Nanny-level guide delivered!
Nanny-level guide delivered! It's our second time bringing the kids to Hong Kong! Last year we took the kids to citywalk to experience the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, and this time we took a less popular and less tiring route on Lantau Island to experience a different side beyond the hustle and bustle.
🗺️Our two-day itinerary:
D1: Crystal Cable Car up the mountain - Ngong Ping Market - Tian Tan Buddha - Po Lin Monastery - Panoramic Cable Car down the mountain
D2: Lantau Island Sightseeing Bus - Disneyland
📍Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car
There are standard cable cars/crystal cable cars/panoramic cable cars, with increasing transparency, a one-way trip takes 25 minutes, and the stunning scenery of Lantau Island is right under your feet. You must try the panoramic cabin, with four sides fully transparent + floor-to-ceiling glass, the view is completely unobstructed, allowing you to directly feel the magnificence between the blue sea, blue sky, and mountains.
Cable car operating hours: 10:00~18:00
📍Ngong Ping Market
After getting off the cable car, go to the small spiral staircase on the left first, it's a great spot for photos. Follow the stairs down and you'll see murals, with the cable car and sky in the same frame, totally comic-style! Opposite the murals diagonally is a beautiful forest boardwalk, with the cable car passing over it.
The market is great for strolling and eating, with many restaurants and souvenir shops. We swept up a bunch of toys to take back, and there are many cable car-themed Legos that look great!
📍Tian Tan Buddha
Strolling down from the market, you can see a flight of 268 steps leading up to the world's No.2 outdoor bronze Buddha, which looks spectacular from afar and yet feels different up close - sacred and solemn. From the Buddha's platform, you can gaze into the boundless scenery of Lantau Island.
📍Po Lin Monastery
Near the Big Buddha, known as the 'Little Forbidden City', the main shrine hall is spectacular!
📍Lantau Island Sightseeing Bus
A double-decker sightseeing bus that you can ride unlimited times within a day, starting from Ngong Ping Cable Car Station, passing through several hotels on Lantau Island/Disneyland/Aircraft Maintenance Area (for sunset viewing), and finally returning to Ngong Ping. If the weather is good, it's recommended to take the sunset trip, a perfect sunset ride.
📍Disneyland
A must-visit place every time we bring the kids to Hong Kong! The attractions in Hong Kong Disneyland are more suitable for younger children, and the park is small with concentrated attractions, which is very friendly for those with kids. The newly opened Frozen-themed area is worth it! Also, now you don't need to scramble for a ticket to meet Queen Elsa, you can just queue up to meet the star!
👉🏻You can take the sightseeing bus directly from the hotel to Disneyland in the morning, play until evening, and then continue on the sightseeing bus to the Aircraft Maintenance Area to watch a sunset and end a beautiful day~
🏨Accommodation: We stayed at the Sheraton Tung Chung, which is close to the airport, cable car station, and Disneyland.
Taking the kids to Lantau Island for two days was really relaxing because the two places we wanted to go, Ngong Ping and Disneyland, were both directly accessible by sightseeing bus, and the hotel we stayed at was also very convenient for taking the bus back and forth. The well-connected transportation made the whole trip effortless for mom.

A wonderful journey in Hong Kong offers you a unique summer vacation experience
Friends want to go to Hong Kong for fun during the summer break 👏
Since neither of us had ever taken the crystal cable car 🚡
We decided to visit Ngong Ping 360 and also explore the Ngong Ping Market
As well as visiting the Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island
After taking the cable car back down, we can also go shopping in Tung Chung
It perfectly filled our day with activities!
.
✅ I've briefly outlined the full itinerary of this trip 🌈
Friends who want to play in Tung Chung, Hong Kong during the summer, check this out~
.
🌟 Ngong Ping 360 Crystal Cable Car
This is my first time taking the Ngong Ping 360 cable car in Hong Kong 🚡
I was so excited! The crystal cable car is really beautiful 💕
The all-glass design allows for a 360-degree panoramic view
It gives you a cool floating sensation as if the earth is beneath your feet
And taking photos inside the crystal cable car is also amazing 🚡
I highly recommend everyone to try it! The floor is made of transparent glass
Sitting inside feels like hanging in the air, with all the beautiful scenery in sight
.
🌟 Ngong Ping Market
After getting off the cable car, you'll reach Ngong Ping Market where you can also stroll around
It's a colorful street for leisure, food, and shopping
When tired from walking around the market, my friend insisted we must have ice cream
We ordered a da dalce ice cream, which should be a specialty here
We had two coconut-flavored ones, both the texture and taste were superb
The texture is great, not too sweet overall, and you don't feel greasy after eating
For friends who like taking photos, don't miss the small spiral staircase
Ngong Ping Trail, and the Hong Kong-style element murals are great photo spots
During the summer holiday, there's also a 'giant transparent bathtub' installation about 2 meters high
You can take a photo with thousands of rubber ducks, as if you're a little duck yourself 🦆
.
🌟 Tian Tan Buddha
Walk through Ngong Ping Market for 15 minutes, and you'll reach the Big Buddha
Standing under the Big Buddha, looking up at the world's NO.2 tallest outdoor bronze seated Buddha, it's majestic and solemn
People looking up from below are everywhere, including many foreigners, haha
I really like the movie 'Infernal Affairs' which was filmed here
I also came to strike the same pose ✌️!
.
🌟 Po Lin Monastery
Many of my friends often come to the monastery to visit
And I am no exception, I always feel that all worries seem to be released here
Being here also brings a sense of peace and tranquility to my heart
It's especially suitable for slowing down, taking a walk, and purifying the soul!
.
All in all, this is the most interesting experience I've had in Hong Kong! Not sure where to go this summer❓ Come to Ngong Ping 360 and experience the God's view of Hong Kong❗

Tranquility in the hot season! Lantau Island in Hong Kong is highly recommended!
On Lantau Island in Hong Kong, there is a secluded and tranquil place: Ngong Ping Lantau Island. The Lantau Island scenic area is free of charge, but the attractions are a bit far from the city center. You can choose to take the Lantau bus or the cable car to get there.
✅ Must experience: Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car
❤ Recommended reason:
One of the 'Top Ten Best Cable Car Journeys in the World', the cable car connects Tung Chung and Ngong Ping. It is 5.7 kilometers long and takes about 25 minutes for the whole journey. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the South China Sea and the North Lantau Country Park from afar. During the trip, you can see the sea, forests, a panoramic view of Hong Kong International Airport, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It is also the fastest way from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping.

There are three types of cable car cabins: standard cabin/crystal cabin/panoramic cable car. For those who are not afraid of heights, the crystal and panoramic cable cars are highly recommended. The crystal cable car has a glass bottom, and the panoramic cable car has glass on all sides and the bottom.

If you set off at noon, you can buy a one-way ticket. In the evening, watch the sunset in Tai O fishing village, then take a minibus back to Tung Chung MTR station.
👍 Most recommended: Ngong Ping Market
🌟 Highlight features:
Right after getting off the cable car is the Ngong Ping Market, where you can choose from a variety of cuisines including Central Asian, Japanese, and Hong Kong. There are also murals, fortune cats, wishing trees, and other photo spots where you can eat and take pictures at the same time.
👍 Most recommended: Tian Tan Buddha
🌟 Highlight features:
Following the Ngong Ping Market, you will reach the Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery! The Tian Tan Buddha is located on Mount Muk Yue on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is the world's tallest outdoor bronze seated Buddha. The Buddha is 26.4 meters tall, and with the three-story pedestal, the total height is nearly 34 meters, which is about 11-12 stories high, very spectacular.
🚉 Transportation strategy:
To visit the above attractions, you must first reach Ngong Ping Market:
🚢 Take a ferry from Central Pier No. 6 to Mui Wo, which takes about 35 to 55 minutes; after disembarking, transfer to bus No. 2 at the bus terminal to Ngong Ping Market, which takes about 40 minutes.
🚌 Take bus No. 23 from the bus terminal at Exit B of Tung Chung MTR station to Ngong Ping Market, which takes about 50 minutes.
🚡 Take the cable car (Ngong Ping 360) from the Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal at Exit B of Tung Chung MTR station to Ngong Ping Cable Car Station, which takes about 25 minutes.
🚶🏻 Starting from the plaza, it takes about 5 minutes to walk to Tian Tan Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, and the Heart Sutra Woods following the signs.

When the weather is good, you can enjoy the sunset on the sea! It’s really pleasant to enjoy the sea breeze. Remember to sit on the second floor. The open-top view is better.

WONDERFUL NGONG PING 360 HONG KONG
What a spectacular view! To be able to go to Ngong Ping Village,we had to be in a cable car,it was quite a long ride about 25mins,but we enjoyed the view, offering the breathtaking views of Tung Chung Bay. Ngong Ping Village offers calming vibes, there were restaurants and cafes at the entrance. We finally went up to the Big Buddah where you have to do 100s of steps before you could reach the top. The cable car was only until 6pm, as the weather changed around 5pm ,it became foggy so you wont be able to see anything around. It covers everything. To get here, from central you have to take an orange line to Tung Chung and the fare is 30hk dollars one way. #ngongping360hongkong #Tungchung

💕 Big Budhha on a cable car ride away
#valentinescape
We took the Ngong Ping 360 cable car over to the Ngong Ping Village. The cable ride was smooth sailing and took around half an hour. If you want to have more highlights during the cable ride, opt for the crystal cabin cable car ride - the glass bottom will give you amazing views of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and the Big Buddha.
Once landed at the village, we walked around and explored the various shops and decorations. The highlight of the trip was the Big Buddha. The seated bronze Buddha statue is already stunning at the bottom of the ling stairs. We climbed up the steps to the base for a closer look at the statue as well as enjoyed the view of the surrounding mountains.
We ended our trip with some delicious vegetarian snacks at the century-old Po Lin Monastery.

Ngong Ping 360 offers a stunning cable car experience. It links from Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal all the way up to the iconic Giant Buddha, Po Lin Monastery and Ngong Ping Village. I highly recommend taking the one with a crystal cabin, you can see 360-degree views of the lush greenery of the rainforest, the beautiful sea and sky. The whole half an hour journey was amazing even though I was a bit scared. Spectacular scenery. Please bring a jacket, it could be very cold in the cable car.

Gate Way to Tian Tan

Ngong Ping Village, a charming cultural hamlet that features Walking with Buddha and the Monkey’s Tale Theatre. This is where the cable car station is .The village also harbors several souvenir shops and restaurants. which make it a great stop before or after visiting Tian Tan. It also the perfect opportunity to buy some souvenirs and have a light meal.
I personally have some desert at a shop name honeymoon Established in 1995, Honeymoon started as a family-style store in Sai Kung and grew to become a network with over 400 stores.Signature products are “Mango Pancake”, “Durian Pancake”, “Mango Pomelo and Sago Sweet Soup” and “Snow White Sago”.

Going Beyond the City
#meethongkong
I have a friend who has moved to Hong Kong after finishing college. She has been in Hong Kong for a few years now so she knows which sites to recommend to visitors and when it is best to see those sites to avoid the crowd. One of the spots she suggested we go to is the Ngong Ping Buddha. It sits on top of a mountain so getting there gave us a cable car experience, allowing us to see a part of Hong Kong from above. It was amazing! There were so many sites to visit and of course, we took lots of photos. It was quite the trek to get to the top bu it was definitely worth it. It took us half a day to complete the tour but I think we could have spent a few more hours in there!

Sky riding to the Big Buddha
Big Buddha is a center of Buddhism in Hong Kong.
Constructed in 3 years between 1990 to 1993, Big Buddha which was made of bronze become one of the tourist attractions in Hong Kong since it was open to the public. From the ground level, we have to climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha.
We can get there by taking the bus or cable car. Taking a cable car is one of the most interesting parts. Along the 25-minute journey, we can enjoy a beautiful view of the South China Sea, Hong Kong International Airport, North Lantau Country Park, Tung Chung Valley, and Ngong Ping Plateau. Next time I want to try the crystal cabin for the cable car, it must be much more interesting.

Ngong Ping Cable Car to the Big Buddha
#Hong Kong Travel
Taking the Ngong Ping cable car to worship the Po Lin Monastery and Tian Tian Buddha, the world's largest meditating Buddha statue. During the 25-minute ride up the Ngong Ping cable car, you will be able to fully enjoy the beautiful view of Lantau Island. There are 2 types of Ngong Ping cable cars to choose from: the regular Ngong Ping cable car and the crystal Ngong Ping cable car. Both types are similar in that you will be able to see a 360-degree view of Lantau Island, Hong Kong. However, the crystal Ngong Ping cable car is special because it has a glass floor, allowing you to see the view below as well.
The Tian Tan Buddha was built in 1924 and cost approximately HK$60 million to build. It is a bronze Buddha statue in the meditating posture, modeled after the Buddha statue in the Longmen Grottoes. It is 34 meters high and made from 160 bronze pieces, weighing 250 tons. It sits on a lotus pedestal, facing north to watch over Hong Kong and mainland Chinese people. His eyes and mouth are gentle and graceful. His right hand is raised to bless the people. It shines brightly when it is hit by the sunlight. #Worship #Travel in the rainy season

Ngong Ping 360 trip
Sunday trip to Ngong Ping on Lantau Island visiting the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car and Po Lin Monastery.
We wanted to visit the famous Big Buddha as well but the long staircase is closed for maintenance.
We enjoyed the fresh air in the rural area on Lantau Island that can not be found in the city so it’s a good spot to go on a relax weekend.
