The most relaxing way to sightsee: the Figure 8 Train.
The Figure 8 Train is located in Zlatibor, Serbia. It was originally part of the narrow-gauge railway from Belgrade via Sarajevo to Dubrovnik. When the narrow-gauge railway was built, it had to cross the Sargan Mountain, climbing nearly 400 meters in 5 kilometers. In the early 20th century, it was very difficult to push and pull a train up such a slope with only a steam locomotive. The clever designer came up with the idea of a spiral interlacing, designing a figure 8 route to reduce the slope by lengthening the distance.
Today, the Figure 8 Train is open to tourists as a sightseeing train. The train has six carriages, all of which are wooden, and each carriage has a different layout. The train takes two and a half hours round trip, passing through mountains and forests and 22 tunnels, with pristine natural scenery and pastoral views along the way. The train goes directly from the starting station to the terminal station, and stops at three stations on the return trip, where you can get off to rest and enjoy the view.
