Oamaru, New Zealand | The White Stone Town
Oamaru is a town on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. In the mid-to-late 19th century, a large number of European immigrants came to Oamaru, developing agriculture and animal husbandry, which led to the prosperity of this small town, gradually becoming the main port city of that time.
Oamaru is rich in white limestone, and most of the buildings from its early prosperous period were constructed with local white stone. The town has many well-preserved New Zealand historical buildings, most of which are concentrated in the Oamaru Historic District, that is, on Harbour Street.
Harbour Street and Tyne Street are where the Oamaru Victorian architecture cluster is located. These ancient buildings were all built between the 1860s and 1880s, and they also represent New Zealand's most complete Victorian-era commercial architectural streets. All the buildings on Harbour Street are made of limestone from Oamaru itself.

Promise me, you must come to Oamaru to see the blue-eyed penguins and seals
👉Oamaru is a retro town on the South Island, where you can see blue-eyed penguins🐧, which is a whole new experience for children! We set off from Twizel and can arrive in about 2 hours.
🌟What to play?
✅Penguin Crossing Sign: You can see penguins🐧 returning to their nests. We arrived around 21:00 in summer, and you can find the place by following the crowd.
✅katiki point lighthouse: 🚘30 minutes drive from Oamaru, I strongly recommend this place! There are a lot of wild seals🦭 to see up close during the day, and the coastal scenery is also spectacular!
✅kakanui beach: This beach is very suitable for children to play in the sea!
✅Oamaru lookout point: You can overlook the panoramic view of Oamaru, it's really beautiful when the weather is good!
✅Oamaru victoria precinct: Check in at Oamaru Punk Street, there is also a retro train head next to it.
🌟What to eat?
✅Oamaru Harbour bakery
✅Star&Garter restaurant
✅The Fishwife: 🦞The popular lobster restaurant, the downside is that you must check the business hours, only open from Friday to Sunday!
🏨We stayed at the famous Post Hotel in the town this time, I really like it, it's full of literary style!
🌟Our suite is very spacious, with high ceilings, and the overall feeling is very exquisite! There is a cloakroom and kitchen, and the kitchen utensils are also very complete. There is a large Countdown supermarket within 100 meters of the hotel, which is very suitable for Chinese stomach babies to buy their own ingredients and cook!
🍳The hotel's buffet breakfast is relatively simple, mainly bread🍞, with juice🧃, milk🥛 and other drinks. It's worth mentioning that there is a dedicated 🅿️ parking space at the door, 😍super convenient!

The small town of Oamaru on the east coast of the South Island is small and exquisite. In addition to waiting for the little penguin to return home at dusk, strolling through the town is full of surprises. The evening sky is light blue, allowing time to go back in the towns of Oamaru and Thames.
