Okinawa Prefectural Museum
#okinawatrip Okinawa Prefectural Museum is a lovely museum! Admission fee is required and for visitors who are interested in visiting the Art Museum, a separate admission fee will be charged.
The museum is not big and consists of one level but is very informative. It was an enjoyable visit and all the displays in the museum were very well done! The museum was very clean, organized, and quiet. A dinosaur fossil can be seen at the entrance of the museum. There is also a souvenir shop and a good place to buy gifts & local arts & crafts items.

Okinawa Prefectural Museum

The Okinawa Prefecture museum is a must see site if you want to learn about the natural and cultural history of Okinawa. Especially significant is learning about the overthrow of the original Ryuku kingdom by the Japanese in the late1800's and the forced culturalization of the Okinawan people. The Okinawan people also had to endure much hardship during World War II from both the Japanese Army and the U.S. Army with over 120,000 civilians killed or committing suicide. Following the war, the Okinawans suffered more hardships from the U.S. and later from Japan again after it resumed control over Okinawa in 1972. It's a remarkable story on display at the museum. The art museum is okay, but not very large. Most of the items are by artists since the 1970s.
I wish to travel again here in 2024.
