Boutique Hotel Restaurant Offers Vegetarian Indian Cuisine
This boutique hotel in Central features a restaurant that specializes in vegetarian dishes! The menu offers Indian cuisine, with a new series of dishes inspired by the daily vegetarian meals of modern Indian families from around the world. In addition to the must-try signature Indian flatbread DOSA, a variety of snacks and curries are also very appealing.
The Indian restaurant is located on the ground floor of Ovolo Central, which is probably the most vegetarian-friendly boutique hotel in Hong Kong. Before the pandemic, they even had a "Vegetarian Year" campaign, where all hotel restaurants and room services offered vegetarian options. This Central location has been serving Indian cuisine for many years and is one of the earliest vegetarian Indian restaurants in Hong Kong, maintaining a good reputation throughout.
The restaurant is spread over two floors, with lunch mainly served downstairs, and there are also outdoor seating options.
Roasted Cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts HK$155
This is a salad from the cabbage family, featuring both cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, both cooked to perfection. It sits on a bed of chickpea puree, topped with feta cheese, arugula, and almonds, making the salad rich and layered.
Pani Puri HK$88
A common Indian snack, these potato balls are served whole, requiring you to make a hole and stuff them with mashed potatoes yourself. Before eating, you also pour a little coriander juice, making the dish very ceremonial. The flavor is predominantly sour, with both the potatoes and the juice having a sour base, so it's not recommended for those who dislike sour flavors.
Chili Cheese Toast HK$88
This was the favorite of my meat-eating friends. It's essentially a cheesy toast with a spicy kick, which can also be dipped in ketchup. Note that it has a certain level of spiciness, so those who can't handle spicy food should be cautious. The toast is crispy and freshly baked, making it a delicious choice.
Pesto Paneer HK$145
The restaurant's signature dish is the Indian flatbread DOSA, with five different fillings to choose from. The most classic is the Indian spiced potatoes, but there are also innovative Western-style breakfast options. Each DOSA comes with a side of stewed vegetables and coconut sauce for dipping.
Arugula, Avocado, Feta and Sun-Dried Tomato HK$155
This one has a very Western breakfast vibe, like something you'd find at a hipster cafe, but with the sourdough toast replaced by Indian flatbread. The flatbread is topped with half an avocado, making the whole dish very satisfying.
70% Valrhona Chocolate Mousse HK$108
The chocolate mousse dessert looks small, but it's best shared between two people as it can be quite rich for one person. The mousse is very dense, with some salt crystals adding a unique touch, and fresh fruits help balance the flavors.
