The Gallery Cafe
The office was converted from a residence, originally commissioned by Dr. Bartholomew for Geoffrey Bawa to design a house for himself in the Alfred Garden. The Bawa Studio is built on a narrow site, with a long corridor in the middle that is very moving. As a model of the combination of tradition and modern creativity, it is innovative in both materials and craftsmanship.
As you enter the inner door, you will see the famous "long pool" with three purple flower balls floating in it. I have seen this picture countless times online, but when I saw it in person, I was still moved. The proportions and colors of the pool have an indescribable beauty, which is a gift from God to Bawa, and cannot be learned. Standing by the pool, I suddenly became a speechless Xue Pan, muttering "so, so, so" beautiful in my heart.
Through the corridor in front of the left side of the pool, you will enter a relatively open courtyard with coffee seats, which is also the main scene of the whole building. There is no air conditioning, only ceiling fans, surrounded by lush greenery, blending with nature, with a tropical style. In front of one side of the wall, there are several large jars (Bawa likes to use large jars as landscape decorations), with unexpected and wonderful effects.
