Phousi Mountain is a popular tourist destination in Luang Prabang. To reach to the top, you'll have to climb 355 steps to the viewing platform, but once there, you'll be able to gaze out over the city and take in the sights. At the summit of the mountain, there is also a little temple, which is essentially a small hill rather than anything very difficult. With that in mind, the trek to the summit is definitely worth it for the panoramic views of Luang Prabang's most famous sights.

View is really great, if you are in Luang Prabang you should come here. A lot of people come before sunset so they can find the right spot, so it could be little crowded. But anyway, its a good place to relax, just sit on the west side to enjoy a view of the town.

Luang Prabang, the city of charm
It's a very attractive city to visit, with its own unique charm and many places to explore. There are various cafes and delicious food. Three days are not enough to fully enjoy it. I bought another ticket to visit again this New Year. I was impressed with everything. Traveling is easy and affordable. People are always smiling and it's easy to ask for information. The Lao people are lovely, and using the same language makes traveling easier. This New Year, I will stay longer and enjoy it to the fullest. Prepare a lot of Lao Kip because sometimes using Thai Baht might have a higher exchange rate.

Easy Hike, Amazing Views✨
Phousi Hill is a great place to visit during your trip to Luang Prabang. The walk to the top is easy, and along the way, you can enjoy many Buddhas, temples, and beautiful views.
Once you reach the top, you will see stunning views of the rivers and the city. Watching the sunset from Phousi Hill is a nice plan, but be aware that it can get crowded, and the area is quite small. If you want to catch the sunset, I recommend arriving at least an hour before the golden hour to find a good spot.
I highly recommend this spot in Luang Prabang!

Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a city rich in culture, history, and natural beauty. One of the best ways to explore its charm is by taking a city walk, where you can visit its stunning temples, bustling local markets, and indulge in delicious traditional food. Here’s a guide for a perfect day of exploring Luang Prabang on foot!
### Start Your Morning with Almsgiving
Begin your day by witnessing the sacred **Tak Bat**, the daily almsgiving ceremony. At dawn, monks dressed in bright orange robes walk silently through the streets to collect food from locals. This peaceful and spiritual experience offers a glimpse into the deep Buddhist traditions of Luang Prabang. Be respectful by observing quietly and keeping a distance.
### Visit Wat Xieng Thong
After the almsgiving, head to **Wat Xieng Thong**, one of the most important temples in Luang Prabang. Known as the “Temple of the Golden City,” it is a masterpiece of Lao architecture with its stunning gold details and intricate mosaics. Take your time to admire the unique artwork and serene atmosphere of this sacred place.
### Explore the Local Morning Market
Just a short walk away is the **Luang Prabang Morning Market**, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant local life. Stalls filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, and unique local products line the streets, offering a sensory overload. Be sure to try some street food like **khao jee** (Lao-style baguette sandwiches) or **kaipen** (crispy riverweed) for a true taste of local cuisine.
### Discover the Royal Palace Museum
Continue your walk to the **Royal Palace Museum**, a blend of traditional Lao and French colonial architecture. The museum showcases artifacts and royal treasures that offer a fascinating insight into the history of Laos and its monarchy. Don't miss the beautiful garden surrounding the palace, where you can take a peaceful stroll.
### Afternoon Food Adventure
For lunch, stop by one of the local eateries to try the famous **Or Lam**, a traditional Lao stew made with vegetables, meat, and herbs. Another must-try is **Laap**, a minced meat salad flavored with lime, herbs, and spices. Enjoy these dishes while sitting by the Mekong River, taking in the beautiful view.
### Climb Mount Phousi for Sunset
End your city walk with a climb up **Mount Phousi** for a panoramic view of Luang Prabang. The climb is relatively easy, and the view from the top is breathtaking, especially during sunset when the golden hues reflect off the city and the surrounding rivers.

Wat Xiengthong is a representative temple of Luang Prabang, and the Royal Palace Museum helps you understand the history and local customs of Laos.
Note: Skin exposure is not allowed when entering temples.
.
2️⃣Go to Mount Phousi for Sunrise and Sunset
Opposite the Royal Palace Museum is Mount Phousi, where you can overlook the entire panorama of Luang Prabang. There are various ways to enjoy the sunset; if you don't want to climb the mountain, you can also stay in a riverside café or restaurant, or take a Mekong River sunset cruise.
Duration: It takes 10-15 minutes to climb to the top of the mountain.
.
3️⃣Visit a Quiet, Clean Night Market
After dark, the road between Mount Phousi and the Royal Palace Museum turns into a night market, which is worth visiting. Unlike the bustling night markets in China, the vendors here are very Buddhist. The night market is clean and quiet. Passing through the night market is a snack street, where you can find a variety of international cuisines amidst the smoke.
.
4️⃣Get Up Early to Watch/Participate in Almsgiving
For the locals, this is a custom that has continued for hundreds of years. Day after day, regardless of the weather, this is perhaps the power of faith.
Time: You need to arrive at the main street before six in the morning.
.
5️⃣Taste the Local Lao Hot Pot
Here, Khemkhong view restaurant is recommended, you can follow the location to find dada cafe first, it's right opposite. Lao hot pot has grilled meat on top and meat slices to dip below, it's recommended to buy a set meal, the portion is generous, the meat quality is good, and the dipping sauce is exceptional.
Price: 40 yuan per person
.
🌿This city allows you to do nothing and just stay like that, it's very comfortable. Next time, I might consider staying for half a month directly.

Promise me, if you come to Luang Prabang, you must go to Phousi Hill to watch a sunset
Phousi Hill is located at the top of a hill in the center of the small town. It is not very high, and it takes only ten minutes to climb to the top. The view here is unparalleled, offering a panoramic view of Luang Prabang, similar to an aerial shot. Looking into the distance, you can see the Mekong River, and there's a large rock that is great for taking pictures. I suggest getting there early to secure a spot, otherwise, it can get very crowded.
Facing the direction of the Mekong River is where you can watch the sunset. We came from the road on the other side, where you'll also find many large Buddha statues, as well as many old houses of Luang Prabang.
After watching the sunset, you'll find that you can take another small path down, which leads directly to the Luang Prabang night market😎 If you come up this way, it will be even closer.
Location: Walk up the stairs opposite the Luang Prabang Grand Palace.
Warm tips:
Every day, there are many tourists watching the sunset on Phousi Hill, and there are only a few chairs on the hill. Visitors usually sit on the stone steps waiting for the sunset, so remember to arrive early if you want to find a good spot.

Mount Phousi in Luang Prabang
Mount Phousi is an important attraction in the old town of Luang Prabang and a significant Buddhist holy site. The mountain is not very high, and it takes roughly ten to twenty minutes to reach the summit. There are several entrances and exits leading to the old town, so there's no need to worry about getting lost.
However, the steps are quite steep, and with the hot weather, it's best to choose early morning or evening for a visit.
Most people prefer to go up in the evening to watch the sunset over the Mekong River. Sitting quietly on the steps near the large golden stupa at the summit, they wait for the sun to set. The summit area is not very large, which makes it seem quite crowded.
The hillside is cluttered with trees, and there are few spots suitable for capturing the sunset. But, most people are probably just there to enjoy the baptism of the evening sun.

Luang Prabang Mekong River
The Mekong River section in Luang Prabang is undoubtedly the most beautiful scenery in the entire Mekong River basin.
Tourist boats drift slowly on the river surface, and the scenery on both banks unfolds before your eyes one by one.
The highlights are mainly the following: First, the various French-style villas hidden among the green trees, colorful and of different shapes, especially romantic; second, the boats sailing on the river, also of various styles and colors, each uniquely and exquisitely decorated; third, the fishermen driving small boats, casting their nets, leisurely fishing and catching shrimp, enjoying the gifts of the Mekong River; the most beautiful is still the clear sky, blue sky and white clouds, especially when the sun sets, the large clumps of white clouds are slowly dyed pink by the afterglow, really beautiful, absolutely healing.
Next to it, Phou Si Hill is even more of a highlight, with the large golden stupa on the mountain top shining in the sunlight.

High-speed rail directly to a slow-paced small country! Cheaper than Thailand with fewer people.
While most domestic tourists are heading to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, backpackers from Europe and America have secretly fled to this forgotten paradise in Southeast Asia!
Here, there are no towering buildings or factories roaring, only pristine beauty and a slow-paced life.
This country is Laos! Spend three to five days in this lazy country, take a cross-border train slowly and experience its beauty along the way, without hurry or delay.
@Vientiane
If you haven't been to Vientiane before, you can't imagine that a country's capital can be like this. Here, there are no tall buildings, no paper-thin city life, and it feels like a peaceful and comfortable small town. Vientiane's streets are not wide, but they are particularly clean, forming a sharp contrast with the impression of Southeast Asian cities, and there is no traffic jam. Walking on the street, you can see French-style small buildings with unique charm, and flowers or vegetables planted in front of the houses.
Walking around freely, you will encounter many interesting temples. The Ta Loong style is unique, with 30 satellite towers surrounding the main tower. In the sunlight, it shines brightly and dazzlingly.
Wat Xieng Khuan, although it is a temple, has no buildings or halls, more like a park with Buddha statues. The most striking feature is a reclining Buddha about 45 meters long, with a facial expression that seems to be sleeping peacefully, giving a feeling similar to that of Vientiane, tranquil and leisurely.
If you get tired from walking, you can also take a bus to tour around. There are few tourists, mostly locals going about their daily lives. Vientiane is not big, and while wandering around the city, you won't miss a triumphal arch that resembles the one in Paris, France.
@Luang Prabang
Some people say that Luang Prabang seems to have moved the Buddha's world to the human world. This is a thousand-year-old capital, and its pace is much slower than that of the outside world. It has never taken the initiative to adapt to the world trend and has formed its own faction.
In the morning, as long as you get up early, you can see the pious and shocking donation. Every morning at around 5:30, monks in cassocks, begging for alms with bare feet, shuttled through the small town unhurriedly. Pious men and women have already knelt along the road, offering glutinous rice or rice in bamboo tubes prepared sincerely, and monks passed by in a line to accept people's alms.
After staying in the "cold" city for a long time, in Luang Prabang in the early morning, you will feel the great love in the world for a long time!
Here, you can walk through the streets and alleys, and feel the tranquility and leisure of this Buddhist city all day long. You can hold a cup of coffee, eat a delicious breakfast, and wait quietly for the Mekong to wake up.
When night falls, you can climb to the top of Mount Phousi, or walk to the Mekong River to watch a sunset.
Or go shopping at the night market. The stalls are lined up in front of Xisha Wangfeng Street in front of the palace, and the lanterns are softly shining.
Strolling here with friends, drinking some wine, eating some snacks, and the wind blowing, all seem to be romantic and cozy.
In addition, what is even more surprising is that there is also a fairyland that is not stained with mortal dust. Known as the "Laos version of Huangguoshu Waterfall", Guangxi Waterfall looks like the water of the Milky Way pouring down from nine heavens, which is a magnificent and magnificent landscape painting.
@Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng is a paradise for lazy people, located between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, with beautiful mountains and clear waters, simple folk customs, and the China-Laos railway passing through it.
There are many "dense forest caves", the quiet Nansong River flows through, and the magical karst terrain is known as "Little Guilin in Laos".
The lagoon is like the pure blue of the devil's tears, without a trace of impurities, jumping forward, and directly colliding with nature, this is the perfect fusion of man and nature. Rock climbing, hiking, cycling, rafting and other sports can also be performed here, the most popular of which is tire rafting. It's not as exciting as an amusement park, but as calm as floating on the sea, lying on tires and floating quietly along the river.
In addition to adventure, you can also take a hot air balloon to see the lush mountains and forests; you can also practice yoga in the rice fields, so that the body and mind can blend with nature.
Or do nothing, just find a small shop by the river, sit and chat and bask in the sun, it’s really enjoyable.

Luang Prabang Travel | This city is perfect for daydreaming every day.
In 2017, I visited Laos once.
From Kunming, take a plane to Vientiane, then take a bus all the way to Wanrong and Luang Prabang.
Since the opening of the Zhonglao Railway, it has become much more convenient.
There are not many attractions in Luang Prabang.
The Grand Palace, Xiangtong Temple, Guangxi Waterfall.
Night markets and Mount PuXi are both located in the center of the old town area.
Accommodation recommendation: it's convenient to stay in the old town area and walk around.
Mountain resort hotels are also good and more suitable for lying down.
Hotel prices range from 200 to 4000.
In Luang Prabang, drink coffee and stroll through the night market every day.
Sit at a restaurant by the Mekong River and watch the sunset.
No guide is needed here.
Perfect for slowly enjoying life.

Here, there are no towering buildings, no crowded tourists, and no excessive commercialization. The flow of time seems to have slowed down, making it perfect for leisurely walks, daydreaming, and a few days of "lying flat" lifestyle.
Phou Si Mountain is located in the center of Luang Prabang's old town area. It takes 15 minutes to climb to the top, where you can overlook the entire ancient city.
Here, there is one of the eight most beautiful sunsets in Asia, with the evening glow and sunset. Legend has it that lovers who come here to watch the sunset together will stay together forever.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast, then you must come to Wanrong.
And Blue Lagoon is the most fun and joyful place in my mind to directly experience happiness in Wanrong.
On the mountain next to it is the famous Tham Pha Kan cave, and the water inside the cave converges into a dreamy blue waterfall lake.
