The most unmissable attractions in Xiamen, providing endless poetic charm and inspiration.
Upon our arrival in Xiamen, our first stop was the enchanting Gulangyu Island. This Xiamen landmark, a coveted destination for countless tourists, is known as the "Exhibition of International Architecture" and is listed as a "World Cultural Heritage Site".
This island, blessed with azure skies, sparkling seas, and radiant sunshine, is imbued with a romantic and artistic ambiance. The vast expanse of the sky and sea, the resonating drum sounds piercing through the rocks, the unique charm of each building and alley, and the picturesque scenery at every step, all inspire boundless poetry and creativity.
Gulangyu Island, separated from the Xiamen city area by the sea and only 500 meters away at its closest point, covers an area of less than 2 square kilometers. Despite its small size, it encapsulates a profound historical accumulation and rich cultural heritage. The island is home to over 1,000 old villas, where architecture serves as the facade and music as the soul. Each building has a beautiful story behind it, making it an ideal place for the artistically inclined to explore.
The island's rugged coastline, undulating mountains, and notable attractions such as Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Garden, Haoyue Park, Yu Garden, Gulang Stone, Gulangyu Piano Museum, and Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall, all contribute to its charm. The juxtaposition of Chinese and Western elements on Gulangyu Island makes every snapshot a beautiful picture.

Piano Museum
The Gulangyu Piano Museum, divided into two floors and two museum buildings, displays many ancient pianos collected by the patriotic overseas Chinese Hu Youyi.
The square piano made by Clementi in the early 19th century is the largest in the world, with the loudest sound.
The ancient double-keyboard piano made by piano master Schun in 1906 has 4 sets of piano strings, 8 pedals, two layers of piano keys, and the black and white piano keys are reversed.
The piano made by Bode in 1878, with S-shaped piano legs.
The hand-cranked street piano performed by street artists and the world's most complicated organ.
A valuable fully automatic Haines famous piano made in the United States in 1928, which uses rolls of punched ancient piano scores to realistically play the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Brahms.
There is also a piano that was burned into two sections by a big fire, and then connected together, becoming a piano in the Piano Museum that cannot be played.
Many pianos have gone through two world wars, and the candlestick lamps used as decorations also have a history of more than a hundred years. Visiting the Piano Museum once is equivalent to browsing the history of world piano development.

The Piano Museum on Gulangyu Island displays the world famous piano. It takes only a few minutes walk from the Guanhaiyuan Pier on the island to the museum garden. It is a piano museum that climbs into the hill and displays the different periods of the world. All kinds of pianos produced are treasures. All pianos are donated by the piano collector Hu Youyi. The museum is divided into two exhibition halls, two floors above and below. The pedal piano that is produced 100 years ago and the eight-footed grand piano are the most attractive. It is very magical to play the music automatically with the pedals. However, the pianos on display cannot be touched, and some even prohibit photographs. There are also piano performances at fixed times every day in the museum. It is not necessary to count the time to watch them. They are all automatic pianos and last for a few minutes.
