Field Square Siena
The core of the old city of Siena is this fan-shaped square with a slope, which is structured like an ancient theater. Probably earlier, it really had the functions of open-air performances and speeches.
There are cafes and small shops around the square, and the old people pinch the small cup of espresso in their hands and chat and drink.
I took a wide-angle lens and stood in the center of the shell to take a panoramic picture. Because of the wide-angle distortion, the lines diverging around almost became parallel lines.

Entering the Siena Town Hall: A Convergence of History and Art
The Siena Town Hall is the most prominent building on the Piazza del Campo, especially its bell tower, which soars into the clouds and is quite spectacular.
The Town Hall was built between 1297 and 1310, with the central body having four floors and the wings having three floors each. The ground floor features a series of arches, a mix of brick and stone, and the windows are in the typical style of medieval Siena. In the center of the fourth floor, there is a huge religious emblem that dates back to 1425. Below it is the coat of arms of the Medici family, which was added in 1560.
Part of the building's interior serves as the Siena municipal administration, while another part is a city museum, open to the public.

Siena's Tuscan Tapestry 🍇
Immersing myself in Siena, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, was like stepping into a medieval masterpiece, where every stone, street, and square tells a story of history, art, and culinary tradition. This UNESCO World Heritage city, with its iconic fan-shaped piazza, Il Campo, and its towering Torre del Mangia, captivated me with its unchanged beauty and the vibrancy of Italian life.
Wandering through Siena's winding streets, I was enchanted by the Gothic architecture 🏰, the warm hues of its buildings, and the sudden, breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside that appeared at every turn. The Duomo di Siena, a cathedral of striking black and white marble, was a highlight, housing treasures of Renaissance art and intricate marble mosaics that spoke of faith and creativity.
The heart of Siena's social and cultural life beats in Piazza del Campo, the shell-shaped square where the famous Palio horse race 🐎 unfolds twice each summer, a tradition that rivets the city and honors Siena's rich medieval heritage. The energy of the Palio, with its colorful pageantry and fierce neighborhood rivalries, was palpable even in the quieter months.
Siena's culinary scene was a journey through the flavors of Tuscany. From savory pecorino cheese 🧀 to sweet panforte and robust Chianti wines 🍷, each bite and sip was a celebration of the region's agricultural wealth and culinary craftsmanship.
Exploring the surrounding countryside, with its rolling hills, vineyards, and ancient farmhouses, offered a glimpse into the rustic beauty and tranquil lifestyle that defines Tuscany. The nearby towns of Montalcino and Pienza, each with their own allure, extended the narrative of Siena's cultural and oenological heritage.
Evenings in Siena, with the golden light softening the city's stone facades and locals gathering in cafes and trattorias, were a reminder of the Italian dolce vita. The city, alive with students, artists, and families, thrummed with a gentle, joyful energy.
Siena, with its #TuscanTapestry, is a city where the past is a living part of the present, where art, cuisine, and tradition weave together into a vibrant, enduring fabric. 🇮🇹✨ #MedievalMagic #SienaSunset #ItalianJourney

Siena
At the recommendation of my airbnb host, I took a day trip to Siena via train from Florence. Siena is a lesser known Italian city, but strolling around, I found architecture, history, and art from the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance period. One day was enough to cover major sites like the Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Salimbeni, and Siena Cathedral, but I think two days would have been more ideal to explore more of the museums, history, and art in this lovely city.

Italy | Florence's archenemy | Siena
Florence's neighbor Siena, developed at the same time as Florence, and the two city-states were equally matched. However, Siena has always supported the Holy Roman Empire, while Florence firmly supports the Pope in Rome. Over the centuries from the 13th to the 16th century, the people of the two city-states fought several brutal wars for territory and faith.
When Siena built the most beautiful church in Europe at that time (picture).
From the 5th to the 7th century, Florence followed suit and created the larger and more magnificent Santa Maria Novella, which looks like twin sisters; Florence has the Giotto Bell Tower, while Siena has the taller Mangia Tower (Figure 8); Siena has the gorgeous Campo Square (Figure 3), which is actually a very large square that cannot be captured without a wide-angle lens, while Florence continues to expand its municipal square. Even today, when these two cities meet in a football match, there is always a lot of tension.
In 1348, the Black Death that spread throughout Europe took away two-thirds of the population in Siena. In addition, due to the tusha of the residents by the Roman Emperor, Siena was finally ruled by the Medici family of Florence and incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany in the second half of the 16th century.
From Florence, it takes just over an hour by bus to reach the old town of Siena, where the attractions are right at the bus stop, very convenient.

The Shell Square, also known as the Piazza del Campo, has been the center of Siena since the 14th century and is the soul of Siena. The Shell Square is the main square of Siena in central Tuscany, Italy, and one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. There are many souvenir shops next to the Shell Square.
For example, I just walked into this house, it just made me unable to move my legs, a lot of good-looking ceramic decorations, the owner of the store is also very good, seeing me holding the camera and let me take a few more, Finally I picked a small wallet and took it home. The price is not too expensive, about 10 euros.
