[2024 Seville Stay] Travel Guide for Plaza de España (Updated Nov)
Plaza de España 🇪🇸
When in Spain, you must add Seville to your list of towns to visit. And if there is only one thing to see when you get to Seville, then go to Plaza de España and be wowed by its beautiful architecture.
The Plaza de España is a plaza in the Parque de María Luisa, in Seville, Spain. It was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It is a landmark example of Regionalism Architecture, mixing elements of the Baroque Revival, Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival styles of Spanish architecture.
The shape of Plaza de España is a semi-circle, surrounded by a row of buildings that today are, for the most part, used as government institutions. There are two tall towers on the flanks of the square. Of note are the 52 benches and mosaics of tiles located at the foot of the building on the Spanish square. These 52 frescos depict all 52 Spanish provinces.

The most spectacular monument in Europe
Plaza de España, Sevilla
1.
Address - Av. Isabel la Católica, 41004 Seville, Spain
Highlights - Flamenco dancers, canal, architecture
Rating - 5/5
The Plaza de España was inaugurated in 1929 as a space for the Ibero-American Exposition of the same year.
Now it’s a spectacle of light and majesty, framed in the Maria Luisa Park.
While the locals mainly visit the park to relax, jog or walk the dog, Plaza de España is mainly visited by tourists (domestic and foreign).
It has become a frequent «ritual» for national visitors to be photographed in front of the space dedicated to their province of Spain with the beautiful decorated tiles.
Under the arches you can usually find local artists, especially Flamenco dancers and singers, typical Sevilla.
And if you’re feeling romantic, you can row a boat in the canal. Bear in mind, it is quite an effort.
TripAdvisor users have rated it as the most spectacular monument in Europe and the second most spectacular in the world.
