The most shocking museum on the road of Northwest self driving tour for me According to one's old habit, it is necessary to visit the local museum. The self driving tour of Qinggan Ring Road in July ended successfully, and the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum, which charges fees, gave me even greater shock! This time, compared to the nine locations of Qinghai Provincial Museum: Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum South Branch+Main Branch Ticket: South Branch peak season 60r/person, North Branch free D. Time: South Branch 09:00-21:00 (check in stopped at 30), North Branch 09:00-18:00 (check in stopped at 17:30) (explanation): Help voice guided reading mobile phone 20r/time; vx mini program language explanation 20r/time; Manual explanation: Bus: Ride on Route 1 or Route 72. ✔️My favorite attractions are the Phoenix Terrace sunset, the wildlife park, and the museum. I didn't include Ta'er Monastery because I've been there before, but it's worth a visit if you have time.
✔️No food was particularly bad. I liked the tuigu meat and paozhang, and the copper pot was good too. The green sugarcane I bought in Xining was the best I've had this year. It was juicy and sweet.
✔️Rideshares in Xining are really cheap, and the drivers are very professional. One driver was very helpful in giving us directions, and most drivers said goodbye when we got out.

Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum - Very helpful for understanding Tibetan culture.
Not far from the city center, it is convenient to visit. For tourists who want to understand Tibetan culture in a short time, it is highly recommended and very shocking. The South Museum requires a fee, and the main exhibition area is located on the second to fourth floors of the South Museum. The most shocking is the painted hall on the fourth floor, which displays the "Chinese Tibetan Painted Grand View" that has won the Guinness World Record and is protected by national copyright. The "Painted Grand View" is 618 meters long and has a picture area of 1,500 square meters. There are more than 700 Thangkas and more than 3,000 different embroidery patterns. The content is broad and profound, including Tibetan understanding of the formation of the universe, history, religion, medicine, art, folklore, and cultural life. Other aspects.
Others such as ethnic costumes, folklore, calligraphy, etc. also have their own characteristics.
It takes about three hours to visit. If you need to visit the Tibetan medicine in the North Museum, it may take longer.

The Tibetan Culture Museum is like a quiet guardian of time, silently watching over the depths of the years.

The Grand Scroll of Tibetan Culture and Art Paintings of China
If you visit only one museum in Xining, it must be the Tibetan Culture Museum. The fourth floor is stunning, and the second and third floors are magnificent. Start from the fourth floor and work your way down. The Thangka on the fourth floor is very impressive! The second and third floors showcase various aspects of Tibetan culture, clothing, and history, and are worth seeing! The museum permanently exhibits 'The Grand Scroll of Tibetan Culture and Art Paintings of China,' designed and planned by the contemporary famous Tibetan Thangka master Zongzhe Lajie over twenty-seven years. It was meticulously created over four years by more than 400 top artisans from Tibetan, Mongolian, Han, and Tu ethnic groups. The scroll is 618 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, painted with traditional Tibetan techniques using precious materials such as gold powder, jade, and coral. It has been listed in the Guinness World Records.

Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum
The grand painting is very impressive. More than 400 painters created the world's longest Thangka over 4 years, measuring 618 meters in length and 2.5 meters in width, with an area exceeding 1500 square meters. Worth seeing.

Museums that dare to charge tickets have hard goods (Xining)
This museum is absolutely not to be missed. It is divided into two parts: the north and the south. The north hall is themed on Tibetan medicine and is the only large-scale Tibetan medicine museum in the world (free). The south hall displays rich and colorful Tibetan culture (ticket 60). The Tibetan medicine on display is The costumes and the world's longest thangka, which is 618 meters long, are quite stunning.
Tibetan clothing has a long history and unique structure. Due to the vastness of the Tibetan area, the natural environment and climate conditions in each region are different, and the production and lifestyle are also different. Tibetan costumes can be described as colorful, with obvious regional differences in color matching, structure, decoration, and dressing styles. The museum is divided into four categories: Amdo costumes, Kham costumes, Uizang costumes and monk costumes, with more than 90 representative pieces on display.
Each piece of clothing is exquisite and extremely rare, and it is absolutely rare to see it elsewhere. Compared with here, the similar exhibits on display at the Provincial Expo are simply indescribable. . .
The treasure of the museum is located on the top floor of the south hall. The huge thangka spreads over 600 meters. It took 27 years from planning to completion. More than 400 scholars, experts, and top craftsmen used pure natural painting pigments to create the masterpiece. Drawn with traditional Tibetan painting techniques. The content records a series of bizarre religious stories and magnificent historical events from the beginning of the creation of the world to modern society. During this period, it contains knowledge on politics, philosophy, culture, art, science and technology, medical treatment and other aspects. Almost all legendary figures in Tibet have appeared in it. Songtsen Gampo, Milarepa, Sakya Pandita, Phagpa, and Tsongkhapa are all reflected in this scroll. There are only things you can’t imagine that the painter has not painted.
It is really a wonderful museum. It is the best choice to learn about Tibetan culture. If time is really limited and you have to make a choice between the Provincial Museum and the Provincial Museum, I strongly recommend giving up the Provincial Museum.

So this is what Xining is really like, it's a pity to just use it as a transit station
Summer capital on the plateau📍Xining should never be just a fleeting glance as a transit or starting station of the big loop. It's beautiful and delicious, and deserves a couple of days for you to savor carefully.
Arriving at noon, the City Tour itinerary is set up as follows:
📍Tibetan Culture Museum
⬇️
📍Nanguan Mosque
⬇️
📍Dongguan Grand Mosque
⬇️
📍Xiaonanguan Market
A last-minute reservation failed to secure a visit to the Qinghai Museum (make sure to book in advance! Book in advance! Book in advance! Important things must be said three times )
Heading for the Guinness World Record Thangka, we moved on to📍Tibetan Culture Museum. The adult ticket is 60, and the child ticket is half price. You can see several other Tibetan culture-related exhibitions besides the Thangka, and the cost-performance ratio is quite OK.
It's recommended to start from the fourth floor with the Guinness Record Thangka. The Thangka, created by 400 painters over more than four years, comprehensively displays the development of the Tibetan nation from perspectives of mythology, history, politics, religion, etc. As the hundreds of meters long scroll unfolds, the exquisite craftsmanship fully reveals the history of the Tibetan nation's development, which is breathtaking!
After the Thangka, you can go down the spiral staircase to see permanent galleries themed around 'The Silk Road' and 'Tibetan Plateau Civilization', including Tibetan architecture, calligraphy, costumes, and carpet craftsmanship. Plus, the North Hall Tibetan Medicine Museum is free to visit, and it also takes a good half day to see everything in detail.
We were keen on visiting the two mosques, so we had to leave in a hurry in the evening.
🕌Nanguan Mosque is located at No. 23 South Xiao Street in the Chengdong District, within walking distance from our hotel. It can be said that the mosque🕌 is deeply integrated into the marrow of this city: the believers' daily prayers are solemn and serious, yet the square outside the prayer hall is a place where citizens pass the time and children play freely.
🕌Dongguan Grand Mosque is located at No. 34 Dongguan Street in the Chengdong District. From Nanguan Mosque, you can walk🚶to Xiaonanguan Market, the entrance is right on the main street of the market. With over 600 years of history, it is the largest and oldest mosque in Qinghai, and one of the four great mosques in the northwest. It is a sacred Islamic site for holding holy ceremonies and studying sacred Islamic scriptures. Besides its religious status, the mosque itself is a magnificent architectural complex that blends traditional Chinese style with Islamic classic features. The architecture is beautiful, and the order inside is well-organized. When visiting and taking photos, be careful not to disturb the believers in prayer and study, and do not wear shorts🩳, skirts👗, or revealing clothes.
After visiting Dongguan Grand Mosque, it's recommended to stroll around📍Xiaonanguan Market. This is also a century-old street. The hundred-meter-long street gathers Hui Muslim flavor food and ingredients, from Qinghai specialty snacks like niangpi, handmade yogurt, and lamb raft, to zongzi, sweet fermented rice, colorful seasonal fruits, and seasoning powders, as if you've entered a sea of colors. In the twilight's glow, a layer of faint gold dust is plated on the dazzling array of colors. Yak old yogurt is sold from five yuan at the storefront to three yuan at the street stalls. For two yuan in the tea shops, you can get a big bowl of sweet fermented rice, which is also a rewarding way to eat when sprinkled on yogurt. The street is crowded with local customers coming and going, but the vendors are not aggressively hawking their wares, and the alleys of the market are not vulgar. Wandering among them, one feels relaxed and happy.
Staying in the old city area, these attractions are all within walking distance.
🍴Food recommendations:
1️⃣Qingzhen·Dexiao Kao Meat Shop: Their lamb stew pot is really unique! The crispy and tender lamb paired with crispy and soft potato🥔 chunks and sticky sweet potato noodles, you'll be reluctant to put down your chopsticks🥢 even after leaning against the wall.
2️⃣Huaxin Firecracker Barbecue Noodle Restaurant: A restaurant recommended by locals, the firecracker noodles are super flavorful, and the barbecue is also very fragrant. Located at the intersection of Xiadu Street and Gonghe Road, it's very comfortable to sit outside for dinner, and the cost-performance ratio is extremely high!
3️⃣Qingzhen Cunshou Beef Offal Shop📍No. 11 Huayuan South Street
Next to the hotel, we stumbled upon the non-material cultural heritage🥢Qingzhen Cunshou Beef Offal Shop. This neighborhood shop, which has been open for over thirty years, has a strong sense of affection among the diners. Seeing that we were tourists, they enthusiastically introduced us to how to order and how to eat. On a cold morning, soaking naan bread in hot soup, a big bowl of it warms both the stomach and the heart.
🏠Accommodation: It's recommended to stay in the old city area, close to the city attractions and convenient for walking. The cost-performance ratio of accommodation in Xining is very good, chain hotels provide nice services, and usually, you get old yogurt for free when you check in.
I'm Ashley, who loves traveling✈️ and photography📷. In the next article, I'll share the second stop on the loop after departing from Xining: the secret realm of Qilian⛰️.

The monastery's architecture is magnificent, its treasures are abundant, and it offers a strong religious atmosphere, making it one of the more popular tourist destinations in Xining.

The Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum is a comprehensive museum with a theme of Tibetan medicine and culture. It houses 16 exhibition halls, including the Silk Road and Qinghai-Tibetan Civilization, Panorama of Chinese Tibetan Art Paintings, History of Tibetan Medicine, etc. It treasures the Guinness World Record-holding Thangka masterpiece - 'Panorama of Chinese Tibetan Art Paintings', which is 618 meters long. Planned by the renowned Thangka master Zongzhe Lajie, it was completed by 400 painters over 4 years. The content encompasses the Tibetan understanding of the universe, the formation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, history, religion, medicine, culture, art, and folklore. The painting is detailed and colorful, a grand spectacle, and is known as a 'contemporary national treasure' and an encyclopedia of Tibetan culture.
3. Riyue Mountain
Riyue Mountain is located on the way from Huangyuan to Qinghai Lake and is also a necessary route to Tibet. Legend has it that when Princess Wencheng entered Tibet, she broke the stone mirror that could not reflect her hometown into two pieces, the sun and the moon, hence the name Riyue Mountain. On both sides of the Riyue Mountain pass, there is a small peak with the Sun Pavilion and the Moon Pavilion, two iconic buildings.

The Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum - An ultimate visual feast of Tibetan culture
👏👏Where can you get a comprehensive understanding of Tibetan culture? It must be the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum🏚🏚. It covers all aspects of Tibetan culture, and being there is truly a visual feast of Tibetan culture.
The museum is located in the downtown area of Xining. If you are traveling to Xining🚕🚕, you definitely shouldn't miss it. The museum is divided into the South Hall and the North Hall. The South Hall is the Tibetan Culture Museum, and the North Hall is the Tibetan Medicine Museum, but let's focus mainly on the South Hall.
How to visit🚗🚗 The museum has five floors, with the exhibitions mainly concentrated on the second, third, and fourth floors. The most famous is the 618-meter-long Thangka on the fourth floor, which was created by more than 400 painters over four years. It covers the origins of Tibetan culture, history, Tibetan medicine, Tibetan Buddhism, and more. The entire floor is dedicated to this Thangka, which is quite spectacular.
On the second and third floors, there are mainly displays of Tibetan historical culture, Tibetan costumes, and Tibetan architecture. What impressed me the most were the Tibetan costumes, with mannequins wearing different regional Tibetan costumes from the Wei, Amdo, and Kham areas, as well as different sects of Tibetan Buddhism, which are particularly exquisite.
Tickets💵💵 The ticket for the South Hall is 60 yuan, and the opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00. I think it is worth the price to go and see.
Other📕📕 Inside the exhibition hall, there is an electronic guide rental for 25 yuan each time, and there is also a Thangka painting experience. The nearest place to the exhibition hall is the Chengbei Wanda where you can go for a meal after visiting. Overall, a visit should take about three hours.
In summary, the Tibetan Culture Museum is a very worthwhile place to visit. Once you go there, you will feel the profoundness of Tibetan culture. Highly recommended.

Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum
The Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum is the only comprehensive museum in the world that collects, protects, displays and studies Tibetan culture. It is divided into two museums, the south museum is themed on Tibetan culture, and the north museum is themed on Tibetan medicine.
The second floor of the South Museum has Tibetan costume hall, Tibetan card cushion hall, Tibetan architectural art hall and Tibetan calligraphy art hall, the third floor is the Silk Road and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau civilization hall, the fourth floor has a painted grand view hall. The painted grand view hall displays the longest Thangka in the world that has won the "Guinness World Record" - the grand view of Chinese Tibetan cultural art painting, which is 618 meters long and 2.3 meters wide. This Thangka was meticulously painted by more than 400 top craftsmen in Tibet over a period of 4 years, using pure natural minerals such as gold, silver, coral, pearl, gemstones and plant pigments such as saffron, madder, rhubarb, etc. The colors of the painting are bright and never fade. This scroll takes the history of the Tibetan people and the origins of the various sects of Tibetan Buddhism as its main line, showing Tibetan Buddhism's understanding of the formation of the universe and the earth, the emergence of human beings and social changes, and its understanding of the future world.
The North Museum has a Tibetan medical history exhibition hall, a Mandala and surgical instrument exhibition hall, an ancient literature exhibition hall, and a Tibetan medicine specimen exhibition hall. In the Tibetan medical history exhibition hall, you can understand the world view, mind and body view, health preservation view of Tibetan medicine, the types and effects of Tibetan wine and tea, various methods of physical exercise and mind cultivation, unique therapies such as bloodletting, moxibustion, cupping, Homa, fire moxibustion, etc., the Buddhist view of life and death, the funeral culture of the Tibetan people, astronomical calculations, etc. In the North Museum, you can also appreciate a special and vivid teaching tool that appeared in the history of Tibetan medicine development - Mandala. "Man" means "medicine" or "drug", and "Tang" is the abbreviation of "Thangka" unique to Tibetan culture. Mandala makes the profound content of Tibetan medicine more concrete and vivid, which is a miracle in the history of medicine. The North Museum also displays the largest handwritten copy of the "Four Medical Classics" in the world. The "Four Medical Classics" (AD 773~783) is a classic in the treasure trove of Tibetan medicine, and its advent marks the formation of the Tibetan medical system.
The museum has too much content to display, and half a day's time is very tight. It is opposite the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Natural Museum. If you have a whole day, you can see the two museums together, and experience the Tibetan meal at the Tibetan Culture Museum at noon, it would be perfect.
