✨ Today, I'm going to share a beautiful hidden gem with you all—Wenshan Sanla Waterfall 🎉!
📍 Location: Near Sanla Village, 20 km east of Babao Town, Guangnan County, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
🚗 Transportation:
- Self-driving: Start from Wenshan City and drive along Provincial Highway S209. The journey takes about 1 hour.
- Public transportation: Take a bus to Guangnan County at Wenshan Bus Station, then transfer to a local minibus or taxi to Sanla Waterfall.
🎫 Admission: CNY 25.
🕙 Opening hours: 8:30 am–5:30 pm.
💖 Highlights:
- Sanla Waterfall, formerly known as Xiangquan Waterfall, is a spectacular waterfall formed by the Babao River flowing to Babao Town and falling in three stages, named Yuping Stage, Bathing Stage, and Gonghua Stage. The total drop is 120 meters, and the length is more than 200 meters.
- In summer, the waterfall is a torrent, while in winter, it looks like a white silk hanging in the air.
- There is a cave called Cangjing Cave on the rock wall behind the waterfall.
📸 Photography tips:
- You can take panoramic photos at the viewing platform or go down to the bottom of the waterfall to feel the mist and coolness up close and take more impactful photos.
- Use a waterproof camera or phone case to prevent your device from getting wet and damaged.
👣 Route: Start from the entrance of the scenic area and walk along the signs. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the waterfall viewing platform. If you choose to hike to the source of the waterfall, you need to reserve an additional 1–2 hours. You can enjoy the waterfall from different angles along the way.
🍜 Food recommendations: There are farmhouses near the scenic area where you can taste local specialties such as sour soup fish, fried potatoes, and bamboo chicken.

- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes to walk in a slippery environment.
- Bring rain gear, such as an umbrella or raincoat, to prevent sudden rain and waterfall mist from wetting your clothes.
- Pay attention to safety. Do not play around near the waterfall. There are many slippery stones in the water, and the water depth varies.
