Visiting the Santa Bárbara Castle in Alicante on a cloudy summer day gave me a unique perspective of the city, though the views weren’t as spectacular as I’d hoped. Catch the train from Albacete at around 8am and it’s an hour away. Walk all the way from the station and pass every attraction while shopping. First stop: San Fernando Castle - overlooking the city After climbing a short distance up the mountain, you reach Castillo San Fernando. Looking down from the top, you can see a large city view, and you can see all the Mediterranean-style buildings at a glance. The illustrations that used to be in geography textbooks now appear in front of my eyes, and they always feel wonderful but unreal. Second stop: Palm Avenue + Seaside Promenade Then walk down the mountain along the main street and arrive at Palm Avenue in about ten minutes. If you walk further down the avenue, you can see the sea. The weather is very good. The sparkling sea under the sun is so dazzling that people can't open their eyes. It shines like a gem and is so transparent that after staying there for a long time, I couldn't bear to leave. There are various restaurants along the Palm Avenue, and we ended up ordering a paella for four (very huge) at a Spanish restaurant. Third stop: relax on the beach After dinner, I took a slow walk back to the beach, this time on the beach. The scenery on this side of the beach is also very beautiful, but maybe because it is a weekend, there are so many people! It was so densely packed that there was no place to step on. You can avoid the crowds and sit on the rocks by the beach to enjoy the sea breeze~ Stop 4: Santa Barbara Castle Continuing to walk down the beach, you will reach the lift entrance of Castillo Santa Barbara in about five minutes.
