Shanghai Granny's Quality Remains High
Recently, there have been many new restaurants at Nina Mall, so there are more options for dinner after work. Today, I went to Shanghai Granny for dinner.
The new restaurant's decor is quite elegant, with a touch of antiquity. The place is small, but it was full during dinner time.
Tea per person $6
Pork Rib Dan Dan Noodles $72
Mildly spicy, the portion of noodles is quite large, with a chewy texture. The highlight is the broth, which has a lot of minced meat and crushed peanuts, making it very fragrant. The pork ribs are meaty and have a bouncy texture.
Claypot Wonton Chicken (small) $102
The broth is hot and sweet, with a lot of Chinese cabbage, perfect for a vegetable lover like me. There are also wontons and chicken, along with the salty aroma of Jinhua ham. As a soup, it's both drinkable and edible!
Pine Nut Chicken Rice with Fork $95
The chicken rice is not oily at all, stir-fried to a fragrant aroma, and cut into small pieces that are very flavorful. The pine nuts add to the texture. The fork is covered with sesame seeds and stuffed with chicken rice, making it really delicious. This is my favorite dish!
Eel Paste Stir-fried Rice Cakes $98
A large plate with plenty of rice cakes and eel, which has a bouncy texture. Stir-fried with thick oil and vinegar, it's chewy and flavorful.
The portions of the dishes are quite large, enough for two people. We were so full that we couldn't eat dessert. The service at this branch is quite good, and the portions are large and worth the price.

Tsuen Wan | New Shanghai Cuisine Restaurant. Shanghai Grandma.
Luk Yeung Galleria has recently opened a new restaurant called Shanghai Grandma. Despite being open for a while, there's still a queue of people waiting for a table. We took a number and waited for a bit before getting in. Luckily, the food came out quickly.
Xiao Long Bao $45
The skin isn't too thick and there's meat juice inside. I personally recommend letting it cool a bit before eating, as it's easier to break the skin and lose the juice if it's too hot.
Red Oil Wontons $62
There are 6 wontons. The wonton skin is quite smooth and there's a generous amount of pork filling, larger than expected. The red oil is mildly spicy, and it doesn't feel spicy at all when eaten.
Stir-fried Beef with Scallions $92
The beef is tender and easy to chew, with no tendons. It pairs well with the scallions and is very flavorful. Besides scallions, there are also mushrooms and bamboo shoots.
Imperial Fried Rice $108
This is abalone, chicken, and shrimp fried rice. Initially, I thought it was dry fried rice, but it turns out there's a sauce at the bottom, similar to Fujian fried rice. There are 2 abalones, and plenty of chicken and shrimp. The portion is also large, though the fried rice is a bit oily.
💯 Deliciousness Index: ❤️❤️❤️
