A Centuries-Old Cantonese Village That Refreshes the Mind - Langtou Ancient Village
In a corner of the bustling city of Guangzhou, there lies a centuries-old Cantonese village that refreshes the mind - Langtou Ancient Village. It seems like a pearl forgotten by time, quietly nestled in the embrace of Tanbu Town, Huadu. Here, the winding stone paths and long ancient alleys reveal the traces of time in every brick and tile, instantly transporting people back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Upon entering the ancient village, the first thing that catches your eye is the Shengping Renrui Archway at the entrance. It stands tall and majestic, witnessing the vicissitudes of the ancient village. As you continue forward, you will find more than 20 ancient ancestral halls scattered throughout the village. These well-preserved blue brick buildings resemble a 'large museum without walls,' allowing visitors to experience the profound heritage of Cantonese culture while strolling.
Langtou Ancient Village is not only historically rich but also a veritable 'scholar village.' Generations here have excelled in both farming and studying, producing numerous 'jinshi' (successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations). The scholarly atmosphere permeates every corner. In the ancient village, you can visit historical buildings such as the Liugeng Ancestral Hall and the Jimo Building to learn about the lifestyle of Cantonese residents and the daily lives of the 'scholar' villagers. Especially the Jimo Building, the former residence of Huang You from Huaxian (Huadu) during the Qing Dynasty, has been meticulously transformed into an exhibition space showcasing the farming and studying life of Langtou families and the unique 'three-room two-corridor' houses of Cantonese residents.
In addition to traditional architecture, Langtou Ancient Village also incorporates modern aesthetic elements. Chunyang Terrace is such a building that combines aesthetics and poetry. Designed by renowned architect Zhang Yonghe, its ultra-long internet-famous staircase, exquisite library, reading room, and parent-child experience room make it a place where people linger. Here, you can enjoy the beautiful light and shadow effects while immersing yourself in a sea of books, enjoying a rare moment of tranquility.
Moreover, Langtou Ancient Village has launched the 'Ink Light Treasure Box - Heart Painting China' light and shadow art exhibition, an immersive multimedia screening hall that combines light, shadow, and sound effects. Here, you can experience the calligraphy skills of 32 calligraphers and the beautiful light and shadow effects in just 20 minutes, as if you are in a dreamlike art world.
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find a quiet retreat, then Langtou Ancient Village is definitely a place not to be missed. It is recommended to drive there, as it takes only a few minutes by taxi from Fei'e Ridge Station. Here, you can slow down, savor the charm and cultural allure of the ancient village, and let your mind truly relax and heal.

Guangzhou | A great destination for spring outings, worth exploring the historical relics of Ming and Qing ancient villages
🌸 A great place for spring outings, Langtou Ancient Village, which was officially opened at the beginning of 24 years, is just the scene of spring blossoms and birds singing. The artistic shops and ancient green brick buildings are perfectly integrated, and there are also art galleries and museums. The flow of people is small, making it very suitable for family weekend leisure and play!
🏰 Langtou Ancient Village was established in the 27th year of the Yuan Dynasty, with a history of more than 600 years, witnessing the prosperity and flourishing of Lingnan culture, and is one of the important historical and cultural heritages of Guangzhou.
🌳 The ancient village retains 388 ancient green brick buildings from the Ming and Qing periods, including 34 ancestral halls, study rooms, and academies, as well as 5 cannon towers and gate towers.
🔶 Chunyang Platform
An art gallery worth visiting, which is a rural construction attempt that integrates traditional Chinese culture with modern architectural aesthetics. Everywhere is the ingenious combination of artistic light and shadow and structure, making it a great spot for photography, with regular exhibitions of 'With Tao Dashi'.
📍 Langtou Ancient Village, 1h drive from Guangzhou city center
🚇 Metro Line 9 Fei'e Ling Station, 10min by taxi

Guangzhou's largest historic and cultural famous village
🌈 Blue bricks, orange tiles, wok-ear stone slabs, and comb-like layouts, stone slab alleys are one of the characteristics of Cantonese village architecture, and Langtou Village is no exception.
🍓 Rows of ancestral halls are lined up next to the lotus pond, where the elderly drink tea and chat under the ancient banyan trees, which is also the simple life of the Cantonese 'landlords'.
🌵 Centuries-old village, tranquil and leisurely as if in midsummer, with the fragrance of lotus lingering.
I came to Langtou ancient village not in its most beautiful season, if the lotus flowers at the entrance and inside the village bloom in summer, it would be a different charm.
🧚 Traditional folk customs, festive atmosphere
During major holidays, a series of folk activities are held, such as burning straw towers, etc. There are also light markets, reading clubs, music festivals, and more.
🍀 About Chunyang Platform
Chunyang Platform is an important part of Langtou Village, a modern cultural and artistic space, with a gray-yellow architectural appearance, simple and atmospheric. It's free to take photos outside, but there is an admission fee to enter, which I personally found expensive so I didn't go in. Inside there are book houses, cultural exhibition rooms, restaurants, etc.
🚗 About transportation
🚙 Recommended self-driving: Navigate to Langtou Ancient Village. Langtou Ancient Village scenic area
🅿 Parking: There is a parking lot at the entrance of the village, free parking.
Bus: Take bus No. 15 to get there.
