Shifen Waterfall and Shifen Old Street: A Dual Experience of Nature and Culture
🎉 Shifen Waterfall: A Magnificent Natural Wonder
Shifen Waterfall, often referred to as the "Niagara of Taiwan," is one of the most popular natural attractions in the Shifen Scenic Area. The waterfall has a drop of 20 meters and a width of about 40 meters, with a powerful flow that cascades down like a silver curtain hanging between the valleys. Surrounded by dense forests, the sunlight penetrates the trees, reflecting off the mist to create rainbow-like colors, leaving visitors in awe. Walking along the viewing trail, you can feel the power of nature up close, with the splashing water and roaring sound creating a breathtaking scene that feels like a paradise on earth.
👍 Old Street Charm: The Blessings of Sky Lanterns
Amidst the spectacular scenery of the waterfall, don't forget to visit Shifen Old Street, which is filled with a nostalgic Taiwanese atmosphere. The old street is lined with various small shops selling local snacks and souvenirs, such as fragrant taro balls and crispy chicken wings stuffed with rice, attracting tourists to stop and taste. The most iconic activity on the old street is releasing sky lanterns. As the sun sets, the lanterns are lit and slowly rise into the sky, with countless lights dancing in the wind, reflecting everyone's smiles and wishes. Writing your wishes by hand and watching the lanterns slowly ascend, sending blessings and hopes to the sky, is the most symbolic experience of Shifen Old Street.
🚩 Bustling Crowds: The Charming Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Whether on weekdays or holidays, Shifen is always crowded with tourists from all over, eager to witness the majestic waterfall and experience the charm of releasing sky lanterns. Visitors stroll along the old street in groups, some admiring various handicrafts, others tasting local delicacies, and many stopping to take photos. The magnificient Shifen Waterfall
#waterfalls #100waysoftravel
We were visiting Taipei and we took the opportunity to have a short getaway from Taipei City to Shifen area, and one of the attraction is the Shifen Waterfall Scenic area. It is the biggest and the most popular waterfall in the whole of Taiwan. The curtain waterfall has a height of 20 meters and width of 40 meters with a total space area of 800 square meters. Located around 30 minutes walking from the Shifen old town, many people will visit this waterfall after visiting the old town or before. Visitors usually will walk through the Diguantan suspension bridge before reaching the waterfall. There is also a rest area selling local snacks and fruits nearby.

Shifen Waterfall: Taiwan's Majestic Cascade
Tucked away in the enchanting landscapes of northeastern Taiwan, Shifen Waterfall is a natural masterpiece that captures the imagination with its sheer beauty and cascading wonder. Often referred to as the "Little Niagara of Taiwan," this majestic waterfall is a testament to the raw power and pristine beauty of nature.
The journey to Shifen Waterfall is an adventure in itself. As you approach the waterfall, you'll traverse lush forests and follow the winding Shifen River. The sound of rushing water accompanies your journey, hinting at the grand spectacle that awaits. The trail leading to the waterfall is well-maintained and accessible, making it suitable for visitors of all ages.
Emerging from the forest, you're met with a breathtaking sight: Shifen Waterfall plummeting from a height of over 65 feet (20 meters) and spanning nearly 40 feet (12 meters) in width. The sheer force of the waterfall creates a mesmerizing display of mist and spray that envelops the viewing area, offering a refreshing respite from the tropical heat.
A wooden viewing platform allows you to get up close to the waterfall, where you can feel the cool mist on your skin and hear the thundering roar of the falling water. The sensation is both invigorating and awe-inspiring, as you witness the relentless power of nature in action.
Shifen Waterfall is not only a natural wonder but also steeped in cultural significance. The surrounding area is dotted with historic villages and railway tracks that harken back to Taiwan's past. The iconic Shifen Old Street, known for its charming lantern-lined lanes, is a cultural hub where you can sample local snacks, release traditional sky lanterns, and immerse yourself in the rich heritage of the region.
One of the most enchanting experiences at Shifen Waterfall is releasing a sky lantern. Visitors can write their wishes on colorful lanterns and send them soaring into the sky, creating a luminous display that dances against the backdrop of the waterfall. It's a moment of serenity and hope, as your wishes float toward the heavens.
Shifen Waterfall is not just a destination; it's a sensory journey that awakens your spirit and rejuvenates your soul. Exploring scenic waterfalls of Shifen.
Shifen waterfall is a well known must-visit scenic waterfall when visiting New Taipei, Pingxi District. Remember to take some good photos while crossing the suspension bridge when visiting, and the WATERFALL ! Recommend to bring umbrellas there in case of showers. Best time to visit will be summer as there will be lesser rainfall for a better dry experience.
Taking public transport here will be quite tiring, recommend to hire charter over.

Discover the age-old tradition in New Taipei
One stop for multi-stations to experience the historic relics, natural wonders, and cultural traditions 🤗
💫 Shifen Old Street
Located down Keelung River from the waterfall area. The street is lined with souvenir shops, sky lantern shops and eateries. You don't wanna miss out the opportunity to experience this special tradition - setting up the sky lantern on the railway track and release it into the sky.
💫 Shifen Waterfall
One of the most popular attractions in this area, widely-known as the “Little Niagara Falls” of Taiwan.
💫 Nanshan Village
Not as popular as the old street and waterfall station, but for me, it's also worth for a visit to have a close look at the praying tree and enjoy the peacefulness.

#myperfectstaycation
Shifen waterfall is one of the best touristic destination in Taiwan.
How to get there: It is 90 minutes away from Taipei station by train. From Taipei station, you need to transfer to Ruifang station and then get off at Shifen station.
What to do: It is really enjoyable to travel through the forest with the magnificent forest view while coming here with the Tyrrhenian. You also use more than one historical bridge to reach the waterfall. You can either go hiking or drink your coffee while watching the beautiful waterfall view.
A place where you can admire the beauty of nature, definitely a must go in Taiwan.

The Shifen Waterfall In Pingxi District
#newyearadventure #shifen #taiwan #pingxi #attractions #waterfall #scenic #mustvisit
When you are heading to Jiufen, do not forget to visit the very popular Shifen Waterfall located in Pingxi District at 226, Taiwan, New Taipei City.
I'm not sure if car can directly go to this location but I see all tourists stop mostly at the shifen visitor centre, where there are ample amount of carpark, if you want free parking, there a few located away from the visitor centre just a really short walk.
There is also a short walk required from the visitor centre to this scenic shifen waterfall, estimated a 15mins walk?
You will be required to cross 2 bridges before you reach the waterfall. At close proximity of the falls, there is a small shop selling souvenirs and some drinks that you can visit too!
Do take note, there are 3 lookout points here, 2 are located above one another right by the view point from the shops and another located about a short 4/5min walk away from the falls where it will take you away from the falls but right in the center of the falls. Its basically just a small walk towards the other end.

Taiwan, must visit city in your list!
I have been Taiwan for a several times and this was my fifth time to be here. Taiwan is a place with full of love and delicious food here. I went to the famous waterfall in Taiwan which is located in Pingxi District along the Keelung River. It has a height of around 66 feet and is widest waterfall in Taiwan! The name is called Shifen Waterfall and I loved it so much. Moreover, I went to the lover bridge to see the sunset and it was so pretty. I wish I can have more time spending in this wonderful place. Come along to Taiwan and find out what you like the most ! #taiwan #台灣旅遊 #台灣 #tripcom #travel

Tour to ShiFen waterfall in Taiwan
Had a really enjoyable trip with my family to ShiFen Waterfall in Taiwan.
It was raining when we got there, but the hike to the waterfall was not so tough and even my 9 years old boy was enjoying it. The view is awesome and we managed to take a couple of good photos.
There are also street hawkers selling Taiwan typical streets food along the way.
Though we reached there in late afternoon, the air is really fresh and make you want to stay there for a while.
Highly recommended if you are travelling to Taiwan.

ShiFen Waterfall
Address: No. 10, PingXi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan
Getting there: I would recommend to drive or to follow a tour bus as it will be more convenient.
However if you prefer to go by train, you may follow this route: Take a TRA train from Taipei Main Station to Ruifang Station, then transfer to the Pingxi Line to Shifen Station.
Highlights: The Shifen waterfall park is located on the mainstream of Keelung River.
You will need to walk and hike for about 20 to 30 minutes from the entrance to reach the main waterfall. Along the path, there are some stores selling souvenirs and snacks. The price are slightly at the high side.
The fall’s height is about 20 meters while the width is about 40 metres, making it the broadest waterfall in Taiwan.
Opening hours: 9am to 4.30pm daily
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Explore These Gems Outside Taipei
#voyagevibes
Going out of Taipei, Taiwan still has a lot to offer. There's more of nature attractions, unique activities and whimsical places to visit. My friends and I opted to do a DIY tour outside Taipei. We rode a very adventurous crowded public bus and trains. We visiter Taiwan on a November and even though there's a bit of rain, we still pushed through with our plans. We visited the majestic Shifen Waterfalls. There are lots of viewpoints and food options scattered around the waterfalls. Be sure to bring jackets when visiting as it's cold due to the weather and the splash coming from the falls. Another activity we did was to light sky lanterns along the train tracks. We also ate xiao long bao and noodles here. We then proceeded to go see A-Mei Tea House which inspired the Studio Ghibli film, Spirited Away. The tea house was so pretty. It feels magical with all the lanterns lighted up around the area and on the building. The place is super crowded though, take note. It also doesn't help that it's still drizzling. We tried the peanut ice cream roll here. We were also able to dine in the tea house itself and get tea as it was really very cold. Our ride back to Taipei is a bus which we were able to catch by queueing. It was overall a memorable experience. Will come back again.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and the spectacular scenic waterfall at Shifen. The journey from Taipei took quite some time, but convenient. Advise to check the train schedule to avoid long waiting time on train transfer.

Falling Inlove with Shifen Waterfalls
Shifen has many things to offer, not only the old railway which is by the way is still functional, not just the colorful sky lanterns we'd write our wishes and prayers, there's alot! If you happen to go to Shifen, please do pass by the waterfalls. Glittery water pours down during sun down time, imagine that refraction of dusky yellow light on the water - makes it look even more elegant! The hanging bridge over the Keelung river towards the Shifen waterfall is also magnificent. Everything here is oldie but goldie. #voyagevibes #cityscapes #waterfalls

Taiwan Shifen Waterfall Day Tour
During a trip to Taiwan, the Yesji, Yesjingi, and Yespokji tours are popular and cost-effective day tours. You can take a bus for a day and choose to visit places like Yehliu, Shifen, Shifen Waterfall, Jinguashi, and Jiufen according to your preferences and make a reservation.
I went on the Yespokji tour, which included Shifen and Shifen Waterfall. Shifen Waterfall is a place where you can enjoy the refreshing waterfall while savoring Taiwan's fresh fruits and sausages.

The Niagara of Taiwan
#myhiddengems
Tucked away in the quaint town of Shifen, the Shifen Waterfall is often dubbed the “Niagara of Taiwan” due to its impressive 20-meter height and 40-meter width. Although it’s smaller than its namesake, the waterfall is no less captivating. A short hike through a lush, forested path leads to a stunning cascade that plunges into a serene emerald pool. The area is perfect for picnicking, photography, and simply soaking in the natural beauty.
The waterfall is also part of the Pingxi Railway, a heritage rail line famous for its quaint train stations and scenic views. Visitors can easily combine a trip to Shifen Waterfall with a visit to Shifen Old Street, where they can release sky lanterns, a tradition believed to bring good luck. The nearby suspension bridge and railway tracks add to the old-world charm of this hidden gem. Shifen Waterfall is a perfect day trip for those looking to explore the natural wonders of northern Taiwan while experiencing a bit of local culture.

Shifen Waterfall: A Must-Visit Day Trip Destination in Taiwan
📍226 Taiwan, New Taipei City, Pingxi District, No. 10, Qian Keng
Shifen Waterfall is the widest waterfall in Taiwan and a popular tourist attraction. The area is filled with stalls selling snacks like sausages and fruits, making it a great spot to enjoy these treats while watching the refreshing cascade of water.
The path to Shifen Waterfall is adorned with large bridges and sculptures decorated with red talismans. In Taiwan, red talismans symbolize good fortune, so while the atmosphere might seem a bit eerie, there's no need to worry.
The waterfall's strong flow creates a refreshing coolness that can be felt even from a distance.
I joined a one-day tour of Yehliu, Shifen, Shifen Waterfall, Jinguashi, and Jiufen. You can choose your preferred destinations from these five spots.

A must-visit place in Taiwan: the artificially created Siphon Waterfall!
#Overseas travel
There are many famous tourist attractions in Taiwan,
and among them, I visited Shifen Waterfall, famous for being Taiwan's waterfall!
Shifen Waterfall is about 3 minutes by bus from Shifen Sky Lantern Flying Place,
so it's very close, so it's easy to walk there.
There's food and admission is free, so it's a popular place for tourists,
and it's also a good place to take great photos, as shown above.
Get off at the parking lot, cross the suspension bridge, and enjoy the must-see course of Shifen Waterfall,
sausage & ice beer, and take your time looking around.
It takes about an hour.
You can see the train tracks in the middle, so it's a place where Totoro would appear.
I recommend taking a picture before you go.
+ Be sure to try the sausage, a specialty of Shifen Waterfall! It was the most delicious sausage I had in Taiwan

THE LITTLE NIAGARA OF TAIWAN
SHIFEN WATERFALL
One of the best Jiufen day trip options is getting on a train and visiting Shifen waterfall.
The Shifen Waterfall Park, which is adjacent to the old street, is located on the mainstream of Keelung River. Due to the river's erosion, faulted terrain and strange rocks have formed along with many waterfalls and geological wonders. Shifen Waterfall is the most famous among them. You can see astounding geological phenomena like potholes and the Yanjingdong
As I was talking to friends about what to do in Jiufen, they told me about this stunning waterfall nearby that they wished they had known about, describing it as a little Niagara falls.
