Metasequoia Forest at Siming Lake
Siming Lake is located in Liangnong Town, Yuyao, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, in the north of Siming Mountain, about 10 km from Yuyao City. The lake covers an area of nearly 20 square kilometers, about twice the size of West Lake in Hangzhou, and is quite magnificent.
The lake area is beautiful, with the lake water and mountains reflecting each other, like a poem or a painting. Surrounded by mountains, the seventy-two peaks are interspersed with green and black, like a natural landscape painting.
There are many historical sites around the lake, such as the second library in eastern Zhejiang - Wugui Building, Baishuichong, and other scenic spots, adding to the cultural heritage. There are five small islands in the lake, inlaid like emeralds.
Metasequoia is known as a "living fossil" and is suitable for growing in a warm and humid environment with a temperature of 15-28 degrees Celsius. The root system of adult plants is water-tolerant, suitable for growing by rivers and lakes, while seedlings are not water-tolerant.
Siming Lake happens to meet the growth conditions of metasequoia, making it an ideal home.
The metasequoia here has different scenery in different seasons. In spring, the new green leaves are full of vitality; in summer, the branches and leaves are lush, providing shade and cooling; in autumn and winter, the leaves change color, with golden, orange, and purple-red interwoven, reflecting the lake, green mountains, and blue sky, as beautiful as an oil painting, making it a popular tourist attraction recently, allowing people to feel the romance and beauty of autumn and winter.
When visiting the metasequoia forest, during the dry season, there is grass exposed in the shallow water area by the lake, where you can take photos, camp, and picnic in the metasequoia forest; during the wet season, the lake is full of water, and you can only enjoy the metasequoia trunks and the distant landscape painting from the roadside.
