Sofitel Jin Guang North Bund Shanghai Opens for an Experience
The new luxury hotel star on the North Bund
Sofitel Jin Guang North Bund Shanghai is now open
Took the chance to experience it before the holiday ends
I must say
Because the hotel was formerly the Kowloon Hotel
After the interior renovation, you can't tell its previous look at all
It fully showcases the unique French luxury of the Sofitel brand
The first floor is just the lobby bar
Especially the floor-to-ceiling windows near the outer layer, which have a romantic style of Southern France, are really too suitable for afternoon tea
As for the room, this time I experienced the luxury king room which, compared to other Sofitels I've experienced, uses a large area of dark colors
(It seems like others are mostly golden) visually it's more stable and restrained
Compared to the lively and bright color scheme of the lobby, it seems to be more of a contrast
Room 19 is not a particularly regular shape, but the corner design allows for a broader view, room preference varies from person to person.
I personally really like the design of the bathroom, the black and white tiled floor is very photogenic
Another thing is the square bathtub inside the shower, which is quite atmospheric, and the amenities are still the brand standard French Lanvin
The classic scent, although the decoration style is different, it's still the familiar Sofitel.
Additionally, the hotel is about 15 minutes to the Bund and about 10 minutes to the North Bund, and right below the hotel is 1933, which is also a must-visit spot in Hongkou.
So if you're traveling to Shanghai
This hotel should also be a very good choice.

Sofitel Shanghai Jing'an: A Mixed Bag of Pros and Cons
I had the opportunity to experience the standard room, executive room, and suite at Sofitel Shanghai Jing'an.
Let's start with the positives. First, the price is quite attractive. The standard room is around CNY 1,000, and while the space isn't extremely spacious, it's quite adequate. The executive room usually meets the needs well, and even the suite, with its larger area, sofa, dining table area, and spacious bathroom, is priced at only CNY 3,000. Second, the location is excellent, close to North Bund and White Magnolia Plaza, within walking distance to Seagull Hotel, and near a community hospital for convenient medical care. Third, the suite's toiletries are from Acqua di Parma, of high quality, and the cleaning staff is attentive and proactive in asking if you need extra sets. Fourth, the hotel has a strong service mindset, and even during busy times, they greet guests with enthusiasm. The public areas are beautifully designed, attracting many beautiful ladies for photos every day. I stayed here for nearly half a month due to illness, and the staff on the 21st floor took great care of me, even bringing a large humidifier when they saw me coughing, which touched me deeply. I wrote a thank-you letter when I left.
However, there are some drawbacks. As a newly built hotel, some rooms inevitably have a strong odor, and even with two air purifiers provided by the hotel, it's hard to eliminate completely, making it less suitable for guests sensitive to smells. I had a thrilling experience once when I booked a standard king room due to a flight delay, and the next day, I found the room door open when I returned. Fortunately, the hotel handled it well, upgrading the room and apologizing sincerely, resolving the issue satisfactorily. Additionally, the breakfast selection is relatively limited, but the taste is decent, though it can get crowded during peak dining times.
Overall, if you need to stay in this area for business or other reasons, this hotel is a good choice, offering good value for money and decent overall performance. However, if you're sensitive to smells, consider carefully.

Sofitel Shanghai North Bund: The Glamorous Rebirth of an Old Hotel
Shanghai is currently experiencing a boom in old hotel renovations, and Sofitel Shanghai North Bund is a prime example of a successful transformation from the Kowloon Hotel.
Located in Hongkou North Bund, it boasts a prime location, with the 1933 Old Millfun, made famous by the movie "Tiny Times," and the artistic Shanghai Music Valley right downstairs. It's also very close to the Bund, just a 10-minute drive away.
As Accor's 700th hotel in Greater China, it carries a special mission, offering a grand gift for Sofitel's 60th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations. The hotel was meticulously designed by Hong Kong's CCD Cheng Chung Design, featuring a unique style with lavish metal materials and dynamic lines, emphasizing Art Deco style. It transports guests back to the 1930s in Paris and Shanghai, exuding elegance and artistic ambiance.
At the hotel entrance, the artwork "Sound Source Shanghai" is particularly eye-catching, with its changing lights symbolizing the rich emotions of music, complementing the nearby Shanghai Music Valley. The open lobby bar is distinctive, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that not only let in ample natural light but also offer guests a panoramic view of the bustling streets of Shanghai while enjoying afternoon tea.
The hotel's rooms feature peacock blue as the main color, creating an elegant and tranquil atmosphere. Art Deco's classic line elements are omnipresent in the room design, from wall decorations to furniture shapes, showcasing the charm of this unique style. The room layout is scientifically and reasonably designed, with large floor-to-ceiling windows offering guests an unobstructed view of Shanghai's magnificent skyscrapers. The room amenities are from the French luxury brand Lanvin, allowing guests to experience the rich French aesthetic with every use. Even the box for tea bags and coffee bags is creatively designed as a music box, paying homage to Shanghai Music Valley once again.
The hotel also excels in dining, offering a strong culinary experience. The Hui Yao Pavilion specializes in Huaiyang and Cantonese cuisine, allowing diners to fully appreciate the depth of Chinese cuisine. The all-day dining restaurant Le provides a wide variety of food options, catering to different taste preferences for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Song Lounge is unique, offering authentic French afternoon tea and creative cocktails, adding a touch of color to leisure time.

Have you tried the Jo Malone x Sofitel North Bund afternoon tea? 🫖
My friend stayed at the Sofitel Shanghai North Bund and invited us to try the Jo Malone afternoon tea. It was so pretty!
🌈 Environment:
Accor French style, new hotels are always so nice
Very high-end and stylish, I especially like the row of sofas by the window, very French and lazy. We chose a window seat to enjoy our afternoon tea.
🫖 Jo Malone afternoon tea
The three-tiered stand has the brand's logo, and the desserts are very high-end.
The top hat and little bag are so cute, the taste is average, but at least most of them are not too sweet, and the savory ones are not bad. The overall amount is quite small, but it's very delicate~
This afternoon tea also comes with a 2ml Jo Malone perfume
Great for taking photos 📷

Shanghai 3-Day Itinerary
This time, we chose the brand new Sofitel Hotel at North Bund. The location is convenient, and we could feel their warm hospitality even before getting off the car. The hotel is beautiful👍 Manager Jerry made thorough arrangements and provided attentive service throughout our stay. All the staff were very friendly. Due to full occupancy, we were upgraded to a suite on the second day, which was very comfortable. We also had an excellent spa experience. Overall, we were very satisfied, but the breakfast was too crowded, which might scare some guests. We will definitely stay here again next time.
This time, we mainly went to see the Evangelion exhibition with our child. It was a pleasant surprise at Joy City, and the anime was outstanding. On Sunday, we visited the Natural History Museum, but it was too crowded. We also went to West Nanjing Road, which has a unique charm and high-quality Shanghai cuisine. This trip offered a different perspective of Shanghai. We didn't follow a specific route, just walked around and ate as we pleased. We also found the Michelin-starred Four Seasons Minfu Roast Duck Restaurant. This quick trip was very fulfilling😀

The magic city's romantic French-style luxury brand new hotel is the perfect place to debut and show off on social media
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, in 2024 I plan to more deeply practice 'Live the French way', which means to check in at the 'Sofitel Hotels' under the French Accor group more thoroughly.🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Formerly known as 'Greenland Jiulong Hotel', the 'Sofitel Shanghai North Bund' is a place I missed the chance to visit years ago. After many years, staying here now, I truly feel that everything is the best arrangement.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The hotel is stunningly beautiful, with an excellent location, paired with the pleasant early summer weather of Shanghai in May, it's just the right time to debut and show off on social media.📸📸📸
The 'Luxury King Room' on the 25th floor where I stayed has enough artistic flair, the welcome gift was very thoughtful, including a tea bag that is a crossover with a certain brand. Guests can enjoy the view of the old town of Shanghai's North Bund through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, and of course, the Bund and the Oriental Pearl Tower are also in sight.🔭🔭🔭
Guests' breakfast is served on the 5th floor at 'Le Chinois' restaurant. The breakfast highlights quality over quantity, with a noodle station serving local Shanghai spicy pork noodles and Hangzhou's 'Pian Er Chuan', a type of noodle dish. At the entrance of the restaurant, the bread section's 'Kiwi Croissant' and 'Cranberry Croissant' are large in size and explosively delicious, but these two types of croissants do not appear at the same time. I stayed for two nights, so I had the chance to try both.🥐🥐🥐
The most outstanding feature of the hotel is the lobby and the lobby lounge 'Bar Song'. Basking in the warm sunshine, enjoying a set of the passionately 'Symphony of Flavors' afternoon tea at 'Bar Song' is truly delightful and enviable.🎷🎷🎷
The hotel also has the equally high-value 'Hui Yao Ge' Chinese restaurant, but I didn't have the chance to visit due to time constraints. 'Club Millésime' and 'SO SPA' are busily preparing for their debut.
Stepping out of the hotel, you reach the '1933 Old Millfun', a national key cultural relics protection unit, which is also the filming location for the movie 'Tiny Times'.🎦🎦🎦
A 15-minute walk from the hotel will take you to the large shopping center 'Shanghai White Magnolia Plaza', which offers more options for dining, entertainment, and shopping. It is also very convenient for guests to go to the Bund, whether by subway or taxi, it won't take too long.🚇🚇🚇
